Abstract

This research aims to improve students' ability to understand mathematical concepts through the application of the Problem Based Learning learning model which is integrated with the Culturally Responsive Teaching (CRT) approach and the TaRL (Teaching at The Right Level) approach. This research is a classroom action research with the subject of students in class IX-7 UPT SMP Negeri 8 Medan for the 2024/2025 academic year, totaling 29 students. The research method used is PTK (Classroom Action Research) which in this case occurs in two cycles, with cycle I consisting of 1 meeting and cycle II consisting of 1 meeting. Each cycle is carried out with a focus on learning models and the ability to understand mathematical concepts. Based on the results obtained from the second cycle, there was an increase compared to the first cycle with the difference in the highest score in the first cycle being 9 students and in the second cycle being 16 students, the average score was 8 students while in the second cycle there were 10 students and The lowest score experienced a decrease, namely in cycle I there were 12 students while in cycle II there were 3 students. So the difference in the percentage of high scores in cycle I and cycle II is 27%. This happened by making improvement efforts by integrating the CRT approach and the TaRL approach which resulted in improvements in the observation aspect.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the effect of using Web Wordwall in training students' computational thinking skills in mathematics learning with a qualitative approach. The research subject is the Director General of Teachers and Education Personnel, while the object is education that is liberating and pro-student. Data obtained from online and offline information sources is recorded in a structured manner, then analyzed to be synthesized into a systematic conceptual framework. Conclusions are drawn by taking the essence of the conceptual framework that can answer the research questions posed. The research method used is a case study with a focus on participatory observation, in-depth interviews and document analysis. Data was collected through literature study and analysis of learning materials. Data analysis was carried out using an inductive approach, by looking for patterns of findings and main concepts from the data collected.

Abstract

Computational Thinking skills are students' ability to use mathematical concepts to solve problems systematically using algorithms and programming. This research aims to measure the development of Computational Thinking skills of students at SMA N 3 Medan on algebraic function limits material. The research method used is survey research with data collection using tests and observations. The subjects of this research were class XI students from SMA N 3 Medan who were studying algebraic function limits. The research results show that there is significant development in students' Computational Thinking skills after studying the material. The implication of this research is the need for a learning approach that focuses more on developing Computational Thinking skills in mathematics learning in high school.

Abstract

This Classroom Action Research aims to improve students' ability to understand mathematical concepts through the application of the Discovery Learning model supported by snake and ladder games. The research subjects consisted of 29 students. The instruments used in this study include observation sheets, written tests, and documentation. The data obtained was analyzed through several processes, namely data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The success of the mathematical concept comprehension test in this study is determined by two criteria, namely the average score of the mathematical concept comprehension test results and the percentage of students who achieve a minimum completeness score. The average score of the mathematical concept comprehension test results in cycle I and cycle II was 67.5 and 78.5 respectively. The percentage of students who completed the first and second cycles were 65.5% and 80.1% respectively. This shows that in the second cycle, the average score of the mathematical concept comprehension test results and the percentage of students who completed it have met the set criteria. Thus, the application of the Discovery Learning model supported by the snake and ladder game has proven successful in an effort to improve the ability to understand mathematical concepts of students in grades IX-4 of UPT SMP Negeri 8 Medan

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh pembelajaran berdiferensiasi berbasis model problem-based learning terhadap kemampuan penalaran matematis siswa di SMAS Al-Wasliyah 1 Medan. Sampel penelitian siswa kelas XI IPA yang berjumlah 30 siswa. Teknik pengambilan sampel menggunakan purposive sampling. Jenis penelitian ini adalah Pre-Experimental Desain (nondesain). Analisis data dalam penelitian ini adalah uji statistik deskriptif, uji normalitas, uji homogenitas, dan uji hipotesis. Pengujian hipotesis menggunakan uji N-Gain dan uji t untuk melihat nilai signifakansi pembelajaran berdiferensiasi berbasis model problem-based learning berpengaruh positif terhadap kemampuan penalaran matematis siswa. Hasil pengujian data diperoleh hasil uji t dengan nilai Sig.(2-tailed) diperoleh nilai signifkasi 0,000 < 0,05 dan diperoleh t_hitung>t_tabel yaitu 7,554>2,048 menunjukkan berpengaruh positif terhadap penalaran matematis siswa sedangkan dilihat dari nilai rata-rata (mean) N-Gain bahwa pembelajaran berdiferensiasi berbasis model problem-based learning berpengaruh terhadap kemampuan penalaran matematis siswa dengan perolehan nilai peningkatan 0,4575 dengan persentase 45,7501. Hal ini dapat disimpulkan bahwa besar persen yang dihasilkan pembelajaran berdiferensiasi berbasis model problem-based learning terhadap kemampuan penalaran matematis siswa SMAS Al-Wasliyah 1 Medan sebesar 45% termasuk dalam kategori sedang.

Abstract

[English]: This study investigates the relationship between students' mathematical resilience and their learning styles and gender. Employing a non-experimental comparative design and survey methodology, the study utilized mathematical resilience and learning style questionnaires as data collection instruments. The study's sample consisted of 62 fifth-grade elementary school students from Stabat City, North Sumatra Province. Sampling was conducted using the probability proportional sampling technique, resulting in 32 female and 30 male students. Data analysis employed a two-way ANOVA test to examine the impact of two independent variables (learning style and gender) on the dependent variable (mathematical resilience). The findings revealed that the visual learning style was the predominant learning style among students. Furthermore, the study demonstrated a significant correlation between learning styles and mathematical resilience, suggesting that variations in learning styles significantly influence mathematical resilience. In contrast, gender was found to have no discernible impact on mathematical resilience. Additionally, the analysis indicated no interaction between learning style and gender in influencing mathematical resilience. These findings imply that learning styles independently influence mathematical resilience, without any moderating effect of gender. The implications of this study suggest that when developing teaching strategies to enhance mathematical resilience, it is advisable to prioritize individual learning styles rather than differentiating based on gender. [Bahasa]: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menguji resiliensi matematis siswa dalam kaitannya dengan gaya belajar dan jenis kelamin mereka. Dengan menggunakan desain komparatif non-eksperimental dan metodologi survei, penelitian ini menggunakan kuesioner resiliensi matematis dan gaya belajar sebagai instrumen pengumpulan data. Subjek penelitian terdiri dari 62 siswa sekolah dasar kelas lima dari Kota Stabat, Provinsi Sumatera Utara. Pengambilan sampel dilakukan dengan menggunakan teknik probability proportional sampling, menghasilkan 32 siswa perempuan dan 30 siswa laki-laki. Analisis data menggunakan uji ANOVA dua arah untuk menguji dampak dari dua variabel independen (gaya belajar dan jenis kelamin) terhadap variabel dependen (resiliensi matematis). Temuan penelitian mengungkapkan bahwa gaya belajar visual adalah gaya belajar yang paling umum (dominan) di antara siswa. Lebih jauh lagi, gaya belajar menunjukkan dampak yang signifikan pada resiliensi matematis, yang menunjukkan bahwa variasi dalam gaya belajar memberikan kontribusi secara substansial pada tingkat resiliensi matematis. Sebaliknya, tidak ditemukan pengaruh jenis kelamin pada resiliensi matematis. Selain itu, analisis menunjukkan tidak adanya interaksi antara gaya belajar dan jenis kelamin dalam mempengaruhi resiliensi matematis. Temuan ini menunjukkan bahwa gaya belajar secara mandiri mempengaruhi resiliensi matematis, tanpa moderasi apa pun oleh jenis kelamin. Implikasi dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa ketika mempertimbangkan strategi pengajaran untuk meningkatkan resiliensi matematis, penekanan dapat diberikan pada gaya belajar individu tanpa perlu membedakan berdasarkan jenis kelamin.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the Computational Thinking (CT) abilities of prospective mathematics teacher students enrolled in the Teacher Professional Education Program at Universitas Islam Sumatera Utara. Using a descriptive quantitative approach, CT abilities were examined based on four main indicators: decomposition, pattern recognition, abstraction, and algorithmic thinking. Data were collected through contextual open-ended tests, perception questionnaires, and limited interviews involving 24 PPG students. The results showed that, in general, students' CT abilities fell into the moderate category, with the highest achievement in pattern recognition and the lowest in abstraction. Most students had never received explicit instruction in CT, yet acknowledged that this approach helped them solve mathematical problems more systematically. These findings highlight the importance of explicitly integrating CT skills into mathematics education curricula through problem-based and digital literacy-oriented learning approaches. The study recommends strengthening instructional strategies to develop students’ systematic and logical thinking abilities as future mathematics educators.

Abstract

Berbagai upaya dilakukan oleh guru dalam menumbuhkan kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa, salah satunya melalui pendekatan Teaching at Right Level (TaRL). Penelitian bertujuan untuk mengetahui peningkatan kemampuan berpikir kritis peserta didik dengan mengimplementasikan pendekatan TaRL. Kami menggunakan pendekatan clasroom action research dengan melibatkan peserta didik kelas IX-3 yang berjumlah 29 orang. Instrumen yang digunakan adalah tes tulis bentuk essay dengan indikator kemampuan berpikir kritis. Penelitian ini dilakukan dalam dua siklus, dan setiap siklus dilakukan dua kali pertemuan. Data dikumpulkan melalui lembar observasi dan dianalisis dengan rumus ketuntasan belajar. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pendekatan TaRL dapat meningkatkan kemampuan berpikir kritis peserta didik, dimana sebelum dilakukan tindakan hasil kemampuan berpikir kritis peserta didik tergolong rendah. Setelah mengimplementasikan pendekatan TaRL, kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa mengalami peningkatan dari rata-rata kelas 65,93 pada siklus I menjadi rata-rata kelas 74,62 pada siklus II

Abstract

Abstrak Keterampilan literasi dan numerasi sangat penting untuk mencapai potensi penuh dalam menjalani kehidupan yang bermakna dan produktif. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengkaji efektivitas Problem-Based Learning (PBL) dalam meningkatkan literasi dan numerasi siswa sekolah dasar di Kota Medan. Menggunakan desain quasi-eksperimen, sampel terdiri dari 37 siswa kelompok eksperimen (PBL) dan 35 siswa kelompok kontrol (konvensional). Data dikumpulkan melalui tes prior knowledge (PK), literasi, dan numerasi, dianalisis dengan ANOVA dua jalur. Hasil menunjukkan bahwa kelompok eksperimen mengalami peningkatan signifikan, dengan N-Gain literasi (0.449) dan numerasi (0.439) lebih tinggi dibanding kelompok kontrol (0.268 dan 0.236). Selain itu, PK berpengaruh signifikan terhadap numerasi, tetapi tidak terhadap literasi. Penelitian ini merekomendasikan integrasi PBL dalam kurikulum untuk meningkatkan keterampilan siswa serta penelitian lanjutan terkait motivasi dan konteks sosial-budaya. PBL terbukti sebagai pendekatan inovatif yang relevan bagi peningkatan kualitas pendidikan di Indonesia. Abstract Literacy and numeracy skills are essential for individuals to reach their full potential, lead meaningful and productive lives, and participate fully in society. This study aims to examine the effectiveness of Problem-Based Learning (PBL) in enhancing the literacy and numeracy skills of primary school students in Medan, Indonesia. Employing a quasi-experimental design, the study involved 37 students in the experimental group (PBL) and 35 students in the control group (conventional learning). Data were collected through prior knowledge (PK) tests, as well as literacy and numeracy assessments, and analyzed using two-way ANOVA. The results revealed that the experimental group showed significantly greater improvement, with N-Gain scores for literacy (0.449) and numeracy (0.439) exceeding those of the control group (0.268 and 0.236, respectively). Additionally, prior knowledge had a significant effect on numeracy outcomes, but not on literacy. The study recommends integrating PBL into the curriculum to enhance student skills and encourages further research on motivational and sociocultural factors. PBL is demonstrated to be an innovative and relevant approach for improving the quality of education in Indonesia.
