Abstract

This study aims to assess the effectiveness of the Discovery Learning model that utilizes the surrounding environment in improving the learning outcomes of Biology Science on plant material and its functions in grade 3 students of MI Al Barokah Jember. This approach refers to David A. Kolb's experiential learning theory and Jean Piaget and Lev Vygotsky's constructivism theory, which emphasizes the importance of active student involvement through real-life experiences and social interactions. This study uses a Classroom Action Research (CAR) model with four stages: planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. The research subjects were 24 students, with data obtained through observation, learning outcome tests (pre-test and post-test), and reflective interviews. Data analysis was carried out using quantitative and qualitative descriptive methods. The results showed a significant increase in students' conceptual understanding, with an average pre-test score of 60 increasing to 82 in the post-test, and 83% of students showed improved learning outcomes. Student activity also increased, with more students actively involved in observations, discussions, and presentations. As many as 80–85% of students were able to explain the functions of plant parts based on direct observation. Students responded positively to this lesson, but there were limitations in the variety of plants and the timeframe. It is recommended to reinforce initial understanding with visual aids and allow more time for group discussions.

Abstract

The goal of this research was to evaluate the effectiveness of the use of visual media in the form of images in supporting science learning, especially on material about the human respiratory system, in class V MI Al Hidayah Jember. The approach used a qualitative descriptive approach with direct observation techniques at the research site. The reason for utilizing image media is to introduce more interesting learning methods and help students understand the material more easily. This research focused on examining the extent to which picture media was able to increase students' enthusiasm and interest in learning. Data were acquired through a series of observations, conversations with teacher and documentation of student learning outcomes. A total of 25 students from class V were used as participants in this activity. The results showed that picture media was able to clarify the concept of respiratory organs, make it simper for pupils to recallr the contents of the lesson, and increase their activeness in the process of learning, Before using visual media, only 40% of students reached the KKM, but after its application, the figure increased to 84%. This finding shows that picture media is a very effective tool in helping students understand abstract science material.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of planting media on the growth of mung bean (Vigna radiata). The experimental research used three types of planting media: ordinary soil, compost, and rice bran, over a three-week period starting from April 1, 2025. Observations were made every three days to measure plant height and leaf count. The results showed that plants grown in compost media exhibited the fastest growth compared to those grown in ordinary soil and rice bran. At the end of the observation period, plants in compost reached 18.0 cm with 11 leaves, plants in ordinary soil reached 16.0 cm with 10 leaves, and those in rice bran reached 15.5 cm with 10 leaves. Plants in compost showed more consistent and significant growth throughout the observation period. Meanwhile, plants in ordinary soil and rice bran grew slower but still developed well. This study provides information about the effectiveness of different planting media in supporting mung bean growth. These findings can be applied to improve mung bean cultivation by selecting optimal planting media in various farming conditions.

Abstract

This study aims to foster creativity in elementary school students through a simple physics experiment activity called "A Balloon Pierced Without Popping." This activity is designed to provide a fun learning experience and encourage students to think scientifically through the process of trying and discovering basic physics concepts themselves. The study used a qualitative approach with descriptive methods. The subjects were 25 third-grade students at one of the Islamic Elementary Schools (MI) Malik Ibrahim Jenggawah, who participated in the experiment activity for one meeting. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, then analyzed descriptively qualitatively. The results showed that the simple physics experiment activity was able to improve students' creativity, as seen from their courage in expressing ideas, making predictions, and finding solutions to problems that arose during the experiment. In addition, students showed a high level of curiosity and enthusiasm in participating in the learning process. Thus, the "Balloon Pierced Without Popping" experiment activity is effective in fostering creativity and interest in learning science in elementary school students.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of experiential learning in improving fifth-grade elementary school students' understanding of the concept of changes in the form of objects. The research methodology used is literature review, which involves the analysis and synthesis of various research findings, scientific articles, and related journals published in the coming years (2020–2025). In the context of science education in elementary schools, experiential learning is very important in helping students understand abstract concepts concretely through careful observation and analysis activities. Experimental methods such as melting ice, evaporating water, or forming dew are effective ways to connect theory with student experience. Based on the results of the study, experimental methods can improve students' conceptual understanding, science process skills, and knowledge, such as curiosity, thoroughness, and responsibility for learning activities. In addition, experiential learning can help students become more motivated to learn and actively participate in class throughout the learning process. However, a number of factors, such as teacher guidance, the availability of tools and equipment, and the ability of teachers to supervise students' experimental activities in class, affect the success of the program. Therefore, teachers must conduct experiments that are meaningful, relevant to everyday life, and appropriate to the characteristics of students in the school. Therefore, the use of experience-based learning can be an effective strategy to improve the quality of science teaching, especially material on physical objects, so that students can understand scientific concepts clearly and concisely.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the use of a simple rotating energy medium, a mini windmill, in Natural and Social Sciences (IPAS) learning on Energy and Its Transformations in fourth-grade students at SDN Karangrejo 01 Jember. The research approach used was descriptive qualitative, involving teachers and fourth-grade students as research subjects. Data were collected through observations during learning activities, interviews with teachers regarding learning strategies and student responses, and documentation in the form of photographs, learning outcomes notes, and student worksheets. The results showed that the use of a mini windmill provided a concrete and easily understood learning experience for students. This medium helped students directly observe the process of energy conversion from wind energy to kinetic energy, thus enhancing the concept learned through abstraction. Furthermore, students appeared more enthusiastic, actively engaged in discussions, and were able to provide examples of energy transformations in everyday life. Thus, the use of a simple rotating energy medium has proven effective in enhancing understanding of energy concepts in elementary school IPAS learning.

Abstract

This research aims to determine the extent to which the application of a simple experimental method can help students understand the process of photosynthesis while also improving their learning outcomes. Based on field observations, some students appeared less active during the learning process and easily lost focus when learning was conducted solely thru the lecture method. Therefore, this research implements experimental-based learning activities so that students can be directly involved in the process of proving the concept. The research used a method involving two classes: IV A as the experimental group and IV B as the control group, each consisting of 29 students. Data was collected thru observation, interviews, documentation, and learning outcome tests. The data processing results showed a difference in outcomes between the pretest and posttest in both groups, with the experimental class achieving better learning outcome improvements. The t-test value of 32.470 with a significance level of 0.000 (p<0.05) confirms that the simple experimental method is capable of creating a more active learning environment, fostering learning interest, deepening understanding of photosynthetic concepts, and honing students' scientific thinking abilities and skills.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the implementation of the “chemical reaction balloon” experiment in enhancing students’ understanding of the concept of changes in the states of matter among fifth-grade students at SD Jatisari 1, Jember. The study was motivated by the students’ limited conceptual understanding, which primarily results from teacher-centered instruction and the lack of hands-on learning experiences. Employing a qualitative descriptive approach, the research focuses on the learning process and students’ interactions during the experiment. The activity involves a simple chemical reaction using baking soda and vinegar, which produces gas and inflates a balloon. This observable phenomenon serves as a tangible model to help students comprehend the transformation of matter from solid to liquid and gas. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The findings reveal that the implementation of the chemical reaction balloon experiment improved students’ conceptual understanding of changes in the states of matter. Students demonstrated higher enthusiasm, active participation in discussions, and the ability to connect their observations with scientific concepts. Moreover, teachers gained valuable insights into the use of simple experimental methods as effective learning tools in elementary science education. In conclusion, the chemical reaction balloon experiment proved to be an effective learning method for improving conceptual understanding in science, particularly concerning changes in the states of matter. This method provides meaningful learning experiences and fosters scientific thinking through engaging, hands-on activities.

Abstract

This research is a conceptual study that focuses on the design of PowerPoint-based interactive media to support Natural Science (IPA) learning on the material of changes in the state of matter in grade IV MI Kasyiful Ulum Jember. This interactive media is designed to create an interesting and effective learning experience through visualization, animation, and interactive exercises, which are expected to improve students' conceptual understanding. The research approach is carried out through a literature review and theoretical analysis of various references related to digital learning design, constructivism theory, and previous research results. The final product of this research is a conceptual design of PowerPoint media designed to be used by teachers in basic science learning. This research does not involve field data collection, but aims to provide a conceptual basis for further research on the development of learning media. It is hoped that this interactive media can be an effective tool in improving the quality of science learning at the elementary school level, especially on the material of changes in the state of matter.

Abstract

Pendidikan merupakan suatu pembentukan kualitas sumber daya manusia dalam proses berfikir serta memajukan suatu bangsa. Dalam proses pendidikan tidak hanya belajar tentang ilmu pengetahuan dan keterampilan akan tetapi juga membentuk karakter, sikap serta berfikir secara kritis untuk menanggapi konflik global. Dalam undang-undang dasar No 20 tahun 2003 di jelaskan bahwa pendidikan adalah usaha sadar dan terencana untuk mewujudkan suatu belajar dan proses pembelajaran agar peserta didik dapat secara aktif mengembangkan potensi dirinya untuk memiliki kekuatan spritual keagamaan, kecerdasan, akhlak mulia serta keterampilan dirinya sendiri, masyarakat, bangsa dan negara. Pendidikan merupakan edukasi terpenting dalam membangun generasi bangsa yang cerdas pada setiap siswa. Pendidikan dapat memberikan perubahan yang positif meningkatkan pengetahuan siswa dari berbagai bidang keilmuan. Di tengah hiruk pikuk zaman pendidikan di jadikan sebagai pandangan utama untuk edukasi kepada masyarakat luas sehingga pendidikan menjadi tolak ukur utama suatu keberhasilan dalam menyelesaikan kofliktisitas zaman. Maka dari itu Literasi harus di mulai dari sejak dini agar terbentuk karakteristik siswa yang ideal. Dalam proses tranformasi pengetahuan yang lebih kuat budaya literasi Harus lebih di tekankan sejak dini agar terbentuk karakter siswa yang lebih baik dan proses kematangan berpikir. Budaya literasi adalah suatu kebiasaan membaca dan menulis guna memperoleh ilmu pengetahuan, hal ini dapat menumbuhkan kebiasaan berfikir kritis serta luasnya wawasan., Terutama dalam keberanian dalam berbicara dan kemandirian siswa. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk lebih menfokuskan siswa usia dini dalam budaya literasi khususnya dalam perspektif pendidikan. Sedangkan metode yang di gunakan yakni metode kualitatif dengan pendekatan studi pustaka dan analisis deskriptif data primer maupun sekuder. Temuan ini menegaskan bahwa hilangnya budaya literasi akan berpengaruh terhadap pendidikan dan psikologis anak. hal ini juga termasuk peran penting orang tua dalam mendidik anak sebagai support sistem terhadap bentuk psikologis anak Khususnya siswa SD/MI di desa kasiyan Timur Jember, maka dari itu dalam pengabdian ini menjadi solusi utama untuk membangun budaya literasi bagi siswa usia dini.
