Abstract

This study aims to examine the characteristics of the concise diction in Tafsir al-Jalalain and to assess its impact on beginner readers in the study of Qur’anic exegesis. This research employs a qualitative method through library research by exploring relevant academic literature, which is then analyzed descriptively and analytically to identify the ijmālī interpretive patterns underlying the composition of the tafsir. The findings indicate that the simplicity of Jalalain’s diction represents a methodological strategy intended to facilitate readers in grasping the essential meaning of verses quickly and systematically, thereby making it effective as a foundational resource for early Qur’anic learning. However, this concise nature also presents limitations, particularly in terms of contextual breadth and analytical depth, thus requiring the support of more comprehensive references. The study concludes that the concise diction of Jalalain holds significant pedagogical value for beginners, while simultaneously underscoring the need for adaptive learning approaches to ensure the development of a more holistic understanding of Qur’anic interpretation.

Abstract

Ulumul Qur’an is a scientific discipline that plays a crucial role in preserving the authenticity of the Qur’an, both in terms of text and meaning. Amid the growing trend of instant interpretations of the Qur’an that lack a solid methodological foundation, the role of Ulumul Qur’an has become increasingly urgent. This article aims to examine the importance of Ulumul Qur’an in safeguarding the authenticity of the Qur’an and its relevance in addressing contemporary interpretative challenges. This study employs a library research method with a descriptive-analytical approach to classical and contemporary works on Ulumul Qur’an. The findings indicate that Ulumul Qur’an serves as a methodological foundation for Qur’anic interpretation and as an academic filter to prevent distortion of the divine message. Therefore, strengthening the study of Ulumul Qur’an is an essential necessity to maintain an authentic and responsible understanding of the Qur’an.

Abstract

Abstract

This study explores the concept of ghaflah in Surah Al-A'raf verse 205 as an entry point to examine the phenomenon of social alienation in the digital age through Roland Barthes' semiotic approach. The term ghaflah, which literally means negligence or forgetfulness, is analysed on two levels: denotative (literal meaning) and connotative (symbolic/ideological meaning). The main research questions focus on how ghaflah is interpreted semiotically and whether its meaning is relevant to current social phenomena such as doomscrolling, digital alienation, and collective awareness crises. The objective of this study is to uncover the hidden meanings of ghaflah and explain how the concept reflects the socio-psychological conditions of modern society. This research employs a qualitative-descriptive method based on literature review, using Barthes' semiotic theory as the primary analytical framework. Core references include Tafsir al-Misbah, Lisan al-‘Arab, semiotic literature, and contemporary studies on digital media. The analysis is conducted in two stages: (1) interpreting the literal meaning of ghaflah using exegetical and linguistic sources, and (2) extracting the connotative meaning through Barthes' framework to uncover its ideological and mythological dimensions. The findings show that ghaflah is not merely spiritual negligence but also a metaphor for modern human alienation caused by the domination of technology and digital media. In this context, ghaflah functions as a sign of existential, spiritual, and social crises deeply rooted in contemporary life patterns. In conclusion, Surah Al-A’raf: 205 is not only theologically significant but also offers a critical reflection on the destructive impacts of the digital era on human consciousness, meaning, and spiritual values.
