Abstract

Abstract:The application of the Process Oriented Guided Inquiry Learning (POGIL) strategy was carried out to reduce students' misconceptions on solubility equilibrium material. The design of this experimental study was a randomized control group pretest-posttest. The evaluation instrument used is a three-tier multiple-choice test using the Certainty of Response Index. The population of this study was 11-grade students one of the public schools in Pekanbaru city. The study sample was determined randomly after the normality test and homogeneity test was carried out. The experimental class was treated with the application of the POGIL learning strategy while the control class was without the implementation of the POGIL strategy. Data analysis for hypothesis testing is done using the right-party t-test. The results showed that tcount <ttable (-0.59 <2.02) can be interpreted that the application of the POGIL strategy can reduce students' misconceptions in the solubility equilibrium material with a reduction in misconceptions by 47.05%.Abstrak:Penerapan strategi Process Oriented Guided Inquiry Learning (POGIL) dilakukan untuk mereduksi miskonsepsi siswa pada materi kesetimbangan kelarutan.  Rancangan penelitian eksperimen ini adalah randomized control group pretest-posttest. Abstract

The concept of buffer solutions is ubiquitous in everyday life, encompassing macroscopic, symbolic, and microscopic representations. Effective learning of these concepts requires students to understand the subject matter, analyze it, and apply their knowledge to real-life situations. This study aimed to assess the impact of problem-based learning in a flipped classroom model on the learning outcomes of 11th-grade science students studying buffer solutions at SMAN 12 Pekanbaru. The study employed a quasi-experimental design with a pretest-posttest control group. The sample consisted of two groups of 11th-grade science students: Group 3 served as the experimental group and Group 4 as the control group. Data was collected through a test and analyzed using t-test in SPSS 22. The results revealed that the problem-based learning approach in the flipped classroom model effectively improved the learning outcomes of 11th-grade science students studying buffer solutions at SMAN 12 Pekanbaru. The experimental group showed an average improvement of 7.394 over the control group, with a significant (α) t-value of 0.013.

Abstract

The aim of this study was to produce a science literacy-based e-module prototype using a book creator focused on acid-base material and to investigate user responses to the product. The Plomp model was utilized for the design of the research. The e-module was validated by two material experts and one media expert. The trial of user responses was conducted on teachers and students. The results showed that the e-module met the criteria for validity with a high average score of 97.14% for material substance and 97.27% for learning design. The media aspect received an average score of 96% for visual communication and 98.33% for software utilization. The responses of both teachers and students were positive, with average scores of 93.70% and 86.07%, respectively.

Abstract

The thermodynamic properties and characterizations of corrosion inhibition of chitosan nano-particles on the surface of mild steel in peat water media had been studied using weight loss method at temperatures of 30 - 50 oC. Steel surfaces were characterized by FT-IR spectra and SEM-EDS morphology photos. The research found that the value of DGo approaching -40 kJmol-1. The negative value of Gibbs free energy shows that the adsorption of inhibitor molecules on the surface of mild steel was achemisorption and it occurred spontaneously. Meanwhile, the values of DHo is also negative confirming that the adsoprtion of inhibitor molecules is an exothermic process. The value of DSo obtained is positive, it indicates hat the inhibitor molecules were adsorbed spontaneously on the mild steel surface. The analysis on mild steel surfaces hows that the nano-particle chitosan was adsorbed on the steel surface to form the complex compounds.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the improvement of students' critical thinking skills on ion equilibrium and pH buffer solution material through the application of Blended Learning assisted by Google Classroom. The research was conducted in one of the high schools in Pekanbaru City, class XI MIPA in the even semester of the 2022/2023 school year. This research is an experimental research with a research design in the form of Randomized Control Group Pretest-Posttest Design. From the existing population, there are samples in the experimental class (36 students) and the control class (33 students). The results of the research statistical test (One Tailed t-Test) show that the hypothesis is accepted with tcount 2.07> ttable 1.67 (dk = 67, α = 0.05). Indications of an increase in students' critical thinking skills due to the implementation of a combination of conventional class learning and virtual classes that build students to think more fluently, not fixated, active, creative, interactive and not bored during the learning process.

Abstract

This study aims to develop an electronic student activity sheet (E-LKM) utilization of used cooking oil for chemistry education students in entrepreneurship courses. This research is development research with the Plomp development model. The data obtained came from 6 validators (3 material experts and 3 media experts), 3 lecturers of entrepreneurship courses, and 30 students from three universities, namely Riau University, Sultan Syarif Kasim Riau State Islamic University, and Riau Islamic University. Data collection techniques are used in the form of interviews, documentation, and questionnaires. The data analysis technique is by calculating the percentage score of the validation assessment and user response. The results showed that the developed E-LKM met the very valid criteria with a percentage of 92.13% by material experts and 90.70% by media experts. The results of the responses of lecturers and students show that the developed E-LKM meets the very good criteria with a percentage of 82.93% by lecturers and meets the attractive criteria of 84.51% by students.

Abstract

This study explores the integration of ethnoscience into chemistry education by using the traditional shrimp paste production process in Meranti Islands Regency, Riau, Indonesia as a contextual learning resource. The research method used a qualitative descriptive case study approach, with data collection involving field observations, in-depth interviews with five shrimp paste producers (ethnographic data), and a review of scientific literature (scientific data). The findings indicate that the shrimp paste production process still heavily relies on inherited local knowledge and involves several stages: sorting and washing, crushing, molding, fermentation, drying, and heating over a fire. Each of these stages contains chemical aspects that can be analyzed through various approaches: a macroscopic approach (examining physical and chemical changes such as color, aroma, and texture), a submicroscopic approach (focusing on molecular and enzymatic interactions), and a symbolic approach (exploring chemical reactions such as hydrolysis, fermentation, and Maillard reactions). Furthermore, the study reveals that the community’s knowledge of the shrimp paste production process is supported by scientific principles, as documented in the literature. The results suggest that shrimp paste production not only contributes to the local economy and cultural preservation but also holds significant potential for enhancing students’ scientific literacy through an integrated chemical representation approach. The integration of these three levels of chemical representation is expected to provide students with a holistic and applied understanding of chemical concepts.
