Abstract

The influence of music on modern life is evident through the widespread use of earphones, which is particularly popular among teenagers. While offering convenience for listening to music in various situations, the use of earphones is also linked to the risk of Noise-Induced Hearing Loss (NIHL). Earphones generate high noise intensity, reaching levels that can damage hearing, especially when used for extended periods. Global data from the World Health Organization (WHO) indicates a high prevalence of hearing loss, and Indonesia is among the countries with a significant prevalence. The type of research used is observational analytic using a cross-sectional study approach. Determination of the number of samples in this study was by total sampling technique. Univariate data analysis is presented in the form of frequency distribution and percentage and bivariate analysis using the Chi Square test and data processing using the computerized SPSS version 16.0 program. There is a significant relationship between the use of earphones and hearing loss in students of SMA Negeri 8 Luwu Timur.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Punctual student attendance during early morning lectures plays a vital role in ensuring the effectiveness of learning, particularly in medical education, which demands high levels of discipline, academic workload, and mental readiness. However, student tardiness remains a common issue, influenced by various internal and external factors. This study aimed to analyze the factors affecting the punctuality of students’ attendance in the first lecture session at the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Muslim Indonesia. A cross-sectional quantitative design was used with a total sample of 197 pre-clinical students from the 2022 cohort, selected through quota sampling. Data were collected using structured questionnaires covering six independent variables: internal factors (learning motivation, sleep quality, and subject interest) and external factors (teaching methods, weather conditions, and learning environment). Data were analyzed using multiple linear regression with SPSS software. The results showed that learning motivation (p = 0.045) and interest in the subject (p = 0.010) had a positive and significant effect on student attendance. Conversely, teaching methods (p = 0.005) and the classroom environment (p < 0.001) had a significant negative effect. Sleep quality (p = 0.257) and weather (p = 0.776) were not statistically significant. The regression model explained 48.7% of the variation in attendance (R² = 0.487). These results show that punctuality in attendance is more influenced by learning motivation and interest in the course than by physical or physiological environmental factors.

Abstract

Hepatitis B is a major global health problem that is deadly, with the risk of transmission being through blood. Therefore, blood safety efforts are carried out by screening for Transfusion-Transmitted Infections (TTI). This study aims to analyze the relationship between occupational type and reactive TTI screening results for HBsAg in donors at the Indonesian Red Cross Blood Transfusion Unit in Makassar City in 2022–2023. This study used a cross-sectional analytical descriptive design utilizing secondary data from 665 voluntary donors whose TTI screening results were reactive to HBsAg at the Indonesian Red Cross Blood Transfusion Unit in Makassar City in the period 2022–2023. Data analysis to examine the relationship between occupational variables and reactive TTI results was performed using the Chi-Square Test. The results showed a significant relationship between occupation and reactive TTI results of HBsAg donors with a p-value of 0.018 (p < 0.05). These findings suggest that occupational type may act as a risk factor for possible exposure to or infection with the hepatitis B virus.

Abstract

Fig plants (Ficus carica) are known to have potential as a source of antioxidants, especially from the polyphenol content found in the leaves, skin, and fruit flesh. This study aims to compare the antioxidant activity of polyphenols in three parts of the fig plant using the DPPH (2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl) test method to measure free radical inhibition. Extraction was carried out using 96% ethanol, and antioxidant activity was tested at concentrations of less than 100 ppm. The results showed that fig leaves had the highest antioxidant activity with an inhibition percentage of 75.991%, followed by fig flesh at 56.559%, and fig skin at 48.925%. ANOVA test analysis showed significant differences between the three parts of the plant with a significance value of p of 0.004 (<0.05), which confirmed that fig leaves have higher antioxidant potential than the skin and fruit flesh. This study provides useful information for the development of fig-based health products.

Abstract

Background: Low back pain (LBP) is a musculoskeletal disorder with a high prevalence globally and a significant impact on quality of life and productivity. The high incidence of LBP drives the need for non-pharmacological interventions that are easily accessible, affordable, and can be performed routinely. Prayer movements are structured physical activities that involve various body postures and have the potential to provide biomechanical and physiological benefits for the spine and its supporting muscles. Purpose: To examine the relationship between prayer movements as a form of physical exercise and the incidence and reduction of low back pain complaints. Method: This literature review examined scientific articles from PubMed, Elsevier, ScienceDirect, ResearchGate, and DOAJ published between 2015 and 2025. Relevant articles were selected based on inclusion criteria and analyzed qualitatively. Results: Prayer movements, particularly bowing and prostration, are associated with reduced low back pain intensity, increased lumbar and hamstring flexibility, improved posture, and balanced back muscle activity. Conclusion: Regularly and correctly performed prayer movements have been shown to be associated with the prevention and reduction of low back pain complaints by reducing pain intensity, increasing flexibility, and improving postural function. Therefore, prayer movements are a physical exercise for low back pain that can reduce pain intensity in patients.   Keywords: Low Back Pain Patients; Physical Exercise; Prayer Movements.
