Abstract

Abstract

The rising tensions between Iran and Israel have been highlighted by many international mass media, such as Al Arabiya, and BBC Araby. This research discusses mass media strategies in representing social actors in the news of Iran's attack on Israel using Theo Van Leeuwen's Critical Discourse Analysis model. The research method used is descriptive qualitative with data collection techniques including documentation, reading, and note-taking. Then the data analysis technique used is the Miles and Huberman model which includes data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The researcher focused the analysis on inclusion strategies described by Theo Van Leeuwen, such as nomination, categorization, assimilation, association, determination, and others. The findings show that Al Arabiya, and BBC Araby media use four strategies to present the social actors involved in their news narratives about Iran's attack on Israel. The four strategies include determination, indetermination, assimilation, and individualization. Of the four strategies used, BBC Arabic media has a greater and more detailed representation of the details of the social actors involved than Al Arabiya media, it can be seen from the high percentage of BBC Araby media in highlighting the various social actors featured in each strategy in the news narrative.

Abstract

This study aimed to examine the effect of the Deep Learning Approach on students’ understanding of qawāʿid in Arabic language learning, particularly in learning ṣharf with a focus on fiʿil muḍāriʿ. To achieve this objective, the study employed a quantitative approach using a quasi-experimental nonequivalent control group design. The study was conducted with eleventh-grade students at MAN 2 Kota Serang during the 2025/2026 academic year. Purposive sampling was employed, involving 36 students in the experimental group and 32 students in the control group. Data were collected using validated pretest and posttest instruments and analyzed using SPSS. Because the data were not normally distributed, the Mann–Whitney U test was employed. The results revealed no significant difference between the two groups on the pretest; however, a statistically significant difference was observed on the posttest. The experimental group achieved a higher mean posttest score (97.92) than the control group (90.78), indicating that the Deep Learning Approach effectively enhanced students’ understanding of qawāʿid.

Abstract

Purpose – This study examined whether the Hot Seat strategy yields greater gains in Arabic speaking proficiency than conventional instruction among Grade 8 learners. Design/methods/approach – A quasi-experimental pretest–posttest design with intact classes was implemented at Islamic Junior High School (MTs) Fathur Rabbani, Cisoka–Tangerang, with 44 students allocated to an experimental class (Hot Seat) and a control class (conventional lessons). Speaking performance was assessed individually using parallel tasks at baseline and post-intervention, and group means and gains were compared. Findings – The experimental class improved from 48.64 to 81.36 (mean gain = 32.73), while the control class rose from 55.00 to 68.64 (mean gain = 13.64), producing a between-group gain difference of 19.09 points in favor of Hot Seat. These results indicate that structured role rotation, calibrated questioning, and rapid formative feedback can substantially increase both the quantity and quality of meaningful oral turns within equivalent instructional time. Research implications – The findings support the pedagogical value of dialogic, accountability-rich routines for accelerating Arabic speaking proficiency in junior secondary settings. Limitations include intact-class allocation without randomization, a single-site context, a relatively short intervention window, and the absence of a delayed posttest to assess retention. Future research should employ multi-site cluster-randomized trials with preregistered analyses, include delayed and transfer posttests, compare teacher-led versus student-led questioning formats, measure mediators such as engagement and state anxiety, and examine fidelity, equity, and cost-effectiveness. Overall, the study provides classroom-ready evidence that Hot Seat is an efficient, scalable approach to improving oral proficiency in Arabic.

Abstract

This study critically examines the philological and historical-comparative linguistic approaches developed by Western orientalists in analyzing the Qur'anic lexicon and their implications for the doctrine of the authenticity and purity of the language of revelation in Islam. It also explores Muslim scholars' responses to claims of foreign language influence in the lexical construction of the sacred text. Starting from the assumption that the Qur'an contains elements of Aramaic, Hebrew, Syriac, and Ethiopic languages, orientalists such as Theodor Nöodeke, Abraham Geiger, Arthur Jeffery, and Christoph Luxenberg attempted to interpret the Qur'anic text as an evolutive product of pre-Islamic Arabic culture and history. This approach, despite its contribution to the field of language history, has been criticized by Muslim scholars for ignoring the theological dimension and sacredness of the Qur'an as divine revelation. Using a qualitative method and a desk study approach, this research analyzes key works from both orientalists and Muslim scholars. The results show that Western philological approaches to the Qur'an are not scientifically neutral but contain historical-critical assumptions that often contradict the normative-transcendental approach in the Islamic tradition. In response, contemporary Muslim scholars have developed an integrative approach that balances linguistic studies with contextual interpretation and emphasizes the importance of taking into account the dynamics of classical Arabic, Qur'anic rhetorical structures, and the context of revelation. As such, this study affirms the importance of a multidisciplinary and dialogical approach in understanding the complexity of Qur'anic vocabulary in order to avoid methodological reductionism and maintain the epistemic integrity of the revealed text.

Abstract

This study analyzes the implementation of the Amtsilati and Auzan methods as innovative, time-efficient solutions for accelerating Arabic language mastery in Islamic boarding schools. Employing a qualitative descriptive approach, data were gathered through observations, interviews, and documentation. The results demonstrate distinct operational pathways for both methods. The Amtsilati method at Miftahul Khair Curung Islamic Boarding School, Tangerang, mirrors its central model by utilizing the non-class-based fastabiqul khairat system, where student progression depends strictly on individual volume evaluations. Conversely, the Auzan method incorporates a majelis group framework, an ilqa (conveyance) system, and a muhafazah (memorization) system structured across three hierarchical levels (qira'at, tarjamah, and insya), paired with an active parental progress-reporting mechanism that enhances learning control. However, this study is limited by its qualitative, localized case-study design, which restricts broader statistical generalizability. Future research should employ comparative-experimental frameworks and develop standardized quantitative assessment tools to empirically measure the long-term linguistic proficiency outcomes of both methods across diverse institutional contexts.

Abstract

Purpose - This study aims to identify and analyze the direction of Arabic learning planning that is relevant to the demands of the 21st century in madrasas. The main focus of this study is to review the planning from the three main foundations of education, namely philosophical, sociological, and psychological foundations, in order to provide a conceptual reference for education in designing contextual and effective learning.   Design/Methodology/Approach - This research uses a qualitative approach with the library research method. Primary data is sourced from the Arabic language learning policy document in madrassas (KMA Number of 2022), while secondary data includes related academic literature from the last ten years. The data analysis technique used is content analysis through the stages of identification, selection, classification, and comparative interpretation of themes.   Findings - The results of the study conclude that 21st-century Arabic language learning planning must integrate philosophical foundations (focus on critical thinking skills and character), sociological foundations (formation of socio-religious identity and global responsiveness), and psychological foundations (adaptation to students' learning styles and motivations). This integrity results in the learning model of communicative, contextual, humanist and adaptive learning models, which are not only oriented towards mastering language structures but also on practical communication competencies.   Research Limitation/Implications - This study is limited to a literature review and therefore has not tested the implementation of the conceptual model in the field. Nevertheless, the findings offer conceptual contributions and practical implications that can serve as a reference for teachers and curriculum developers in designing more comprehensive 21st-century Arabic language lesson plans that are relevant to the needs of modern education.
