Abstract

Papua, which is known to be rich in local wisdom, has great potential in environmental conservation if supported by a strong conservative attitude from its citizens. This research aims to determine the influence of problem-based student books integrated with Papuan local wisdom on the conservation attitudes of class VII junior high school students. This research is experimental research conducted at junior high schools in the Tanah Merah area of Bintuni Bay. In this study, the sample used was class VII, consisting of 38 students. There were 19 students in the control and experimental classes each. A conservation attitude questionnaire was used to measure students' conservation attitudes. Data were analyzed using the t test. The results show that problem-based student books integrated with Papuan local wisdom have a better effect than the control class. Local wisdom adds to students' information regarding the management of endemic organisms where they live. The problem of extinction in PBL learning empowers students to think about how to conserve organisms so that extinction factors that influence the classification of living things can be prevented.

Abstract

For plant diversity course, teaching materials in the form of interactive e-modules were not yet available. The diversity of sago plants has been compiled in the form of a supplementary book, but was limited to the printed type. This research aimed to develop flipbook-based e-module teaching materials integrated with local wisdom in the plant diversity course. The e-module contains local wisdom about the diversity of sago plants which were differentiated based on the color of the leaf shoots and the varying shape of the midrib as well as the use of the local (regional) language of the Tehit Kna tribe. E-module was expected to be a bridge in the process of digitizing teaching materials. The data source for this research was 9 active students from the Biology Education Department, odd semester for the 2023/2024 academic year. This research was conducted at the Department of Biology Education, University of Papua Manokwari and used the R&D research method with the ADDIE model but was limited to the following stages: Design, design, framework and preparation of the e-module from the front view, the contents of the book to the back cover of the book; Development, validation of flipbook-based e-module teaching material prototypes by media experts; and Evaluation, assessing each stage until the product produced in the form of an interactive e-module based on a flipbook integrated with local wisdom was declared valid and practical. The research results show that the e-module was very valid (96.5%) and very practical (95.56%).

Abstract

Used cooking oil is a liquid material produced from the use of oil for frying. This oil is often not reused and is simply thrown into the environment. If you throw it in the sink it will cause a blockage. Throwing it out in the open causes pollution. The dedication aims to train junior high school teachers in managing used cooking oil into aromatherapy candles in various colors. 25 teachers were involved in the competition. They are spread across two schools in Bintuni district, West Papua. Data was collected using a questionnaire. The results of the service show that they are 100% interested in the activities they have carried out. Most of their knowledge (86.96%) is very good in managing used cooking oil into products with useful value. The other percentage shows good understanding. The results of the service indicate that junior high school teachers have succeeded in absorbing information and improving their skills in producing aromatherapy candle products from used oil.

Abstract

The research aims to examine the effect of problem-based books that incorporate Papuan local wisdom on students' environmental literacy. A total of 36 students were taught using a problem-based book, which added Papuan local wisdom in the pretest and posttest research designs. They are grade VII students at a state junior high school. A total of thirty items to measure students' literacy abilities were used. The items were handed over to them to be answered twice, namely, before implementation and after the end of learning. Student responses have also been measured at the end of learning. Data were analyzed using a paired t-test. Research findings show that the value of P = 0.033 < 0.005. This finding indicates that there is an effect of using problem-based books added to Papuan local wisdom on students' environmental literacy abilities. There were 83.33% of students responding excellently and 16.67% responding well. There were no unfavorable responses from students as long as they attended the lesson. The excellent response from the students indicated that they were interested and happy to participate in learning using problem-based books, which incorporated Papuan local wisdom.

Abstract

Creativity is an important competency that needs to be developed through active, contextual, and experiential learning activities. Utilizing local natural resources through the eco-print technique can provide students with opportunities to explore natural materials and produce creative artworks. This community service program aimed to implement eco-print training based on the utilization of local natural resources to support the development of students’ creativity at SMP Negeri 10 Anggori, Manokwari. The program was conducted on August 20, 2025, involving 20 students through preparation, material delivery, demonstration, hands-on practice, mentoring, and evaluation stages. Evaluation was conducted through process observation, product assessment, and discussion, focusing on student participation, understanding of work procedures, skills in utilizing natural materials, and creativity indicators consisting of originality, flexibility, and elaboration. The results showed that students actively participated throughout the training, were able to utilize leaves and flowers available in the school environment, and produced eco-print artworks with varied patterns and compositions. These findings indicate that the training provided opportunities for students to explore natural materials, express their ideas, and develop creativity through direct practical experience. The activity also increased students’ understanding of the responsible use of local natural resources and introduced eco-print products as artworks with aesthetic and economic potential. Local natural resource-based eco-print training can serve as an alternative community service activity to support students’ creativity, environmental literacy, and practical skills.
