Abstract

This research is entitled “Translation of Metaphors Within the Lyrics of Queen’s Songs” and was made to identify metaphors contained in several Queen’s songs, furthermore is to find out the meaning contained of the metaphorical lyrics written. Data sources were obtained from Queen’s songs on A Night at the Opera, Queen II, and Jazz albums. Data samples were obtained through the lyrics contained from Queen’s Official YouTube music videos. The theoretical foundation used in compiling this research is the theory of metaphor proposed by Marcella (2017), and Nurgiyantoro (2017) and the theory of translation proposed by Frans Sayogie (2014). The method used in this research is a qualitative method, starting with collecting metaphor samples contained in three different Queen songs from three different albums, then the samples are analyzed to find out the meaning or message contained in each metaphor samples and then translated into Indonesian (TL). The results of this research presented a total of 23 metaphorical sentences, and this study concludes about the importance of translating metaphorical sentences appropriately and acceptably without losing the message contained in the metaphorical sentences, in this case the songwriter uses metaphors to convey the depiction of something based on events and personal experiences of the songwriter.

Abstract

Our perception and analysis delve into the evolving linguistic landscape of Generation Alpha, a generation deeply intertwined with digital technology, by orienting to their language use often missed by their guardian. This paper intends to examine how language understanding impacts and may bring a new perspective. To discover the spot, this study utilized a convergent parallel mixed-methods design. A questionnaire survey of 130 respondents was conducted and randomly assigned among internet users through social media in aims to determine the population’s attentive and digital language use preferences. The result we found was digital communication has become challenging that more than half of respondents derived from Generation Z in several countries, along with the semantics analysis of common slang that Alpha Generation frequently used such as Sigma, Mewing, Skibidi, Delulu, and Rizz which were chosen by respondents especially are familiar for Alpha Generation’s educators and parents. Linguistics holds immense potential but faces significant challenges. Our research is of great significance to digital culture, especially teachers and parents. By inclined to present the understanding of language development anticipated to be a starting point to provide valuable insight into digital communication that may help young generation protectors to able to take precise steps.

Abstract

Lyrics is a crucial part of the song, it usually contained by the message from the songwriter, it can created from imagination, moral message or personal experience and so on. The songwriter itself have their own style to create the lyrics. Some lyrics came with outspoken and some came with implicit way to convey what’s the songwriter aim’s. This research was made to identify poetical sentence contained in several Taylor Swift’s lyric song, also to find out the meaning behind the lyrics written. This research used a qualitative method with collecting poetical sentence contained in three different song from Taylor Swift’s newest album called The Tortured Poets Department; The Anthology, then translated into Indonesian as a target language (TL). In this research also conclude about how importance of translating song lyrics appropriately and acceptably for the audience without losing the message from songwriter, where in this case the songwriter uses poetic sentence to convey the interpretation of thought and feeling of the songwriter.
