Abstract

Graphical Abstract Highlight Research The results of this research showed that allometric growth in males and females had negative allometric growth characteristics. The growth condition index in male and female fish is dominated by thin and fat body shapes. The maximum length growth (L∞) and growth speed of males is higher than that of females. Total mortality and fishing mortality for males is higher than for females, but natural mortality for females is higher than for males. The exploitation rate of males and females is in the Under-exploitation category because the E value is <0.5. Abstract Exploring the length-weight relationship of fish and characterising growth parameters is essential in fisheries as they offer fundamental biology and population dynamics data to establish good management strategies for fisheries resources. This study examines the growth and mortality patterns of Oreochromis mossambicus. Data was collected between September and December 2022 using quantitative descriptive survey sampling. The study involved 20 repeats and deliberate random sampling of 30-50 fish per sample, emphasising total length, weight, and sex parameters. Based on 726 samples of O. mossambicus (352 fish identified as male and 374 fish identified as female). The growth model study revealed the typical negative allometric growth for both sexes (male and female). Male individuals attained a length of 33.449 cm after 37 days has a growth trend ± 0.3265 year-1, and females reached 21.150 cm in 34 days with a growth rate around 0.3135 year-1, as per the von Bertalanffy growth model. There were complex mortality patterns, with males contributing to most total deaths. This study emphasises the complex biology of tilapia and its untapped potential in the aquaculture pond system ecology in Tarakan.

Abstract

Abstract

Mangrove is a unique vegetation type growing along the coastline and estuarine in tropical and subtropical countries. Mangroves in Indonesia are distributed in all major islands and small islands from Aceh on westside stretched to Papua on the east. This study is to monitor the mangrove area in Poto island a small island part of Kabupaten Bintan, Province of Riau Kepulauan. The difference in spatial resolution of remote sensing data Sentinel 2A and Pleiades were used to classify the land use including the mangrove area. The supervised classification by maximum likelihood classification showed the high-resolution image using Pleiades has higher accuracy for mangroves 81.99% and overall accuracy 90% (kappa 0.86) compared to Sentinel 2A for mangrove 72,34% and overall accuracy 80% (kappa 0.73). The mangrove area approximately 257 ha is strip-lining along the coastline with the largest mangrove area located on the southside of the island. Further research is to identify the mangroves’ formation and the serial condition of mangroves on the different times.

Abstract

Abstract

Karangsong Mangrove Ecotourism Area is an area in Indramayu Regency that has various activities such as tourism, fishing and anthropogenic. These activities produce waste such as plastic which is then fragmented into small particles (microplastics). This research aims to determine the distribution and abundance of microplastics caused by different activities around the Karangsong Indramayu Mangrove Ecotourism area. The environmental factors used in this research are temperature and pH taken in situ and current data obtained from the Copernicus marine. Sediment samples were taken using a piston core once a week for one month. Furthermore, laboratory tests were carried out to see the abundance and characteristics of microplastics. The data that has been obtained is then tested with oneway ANOVA with a significance level of 5%. The highest abundance of microplastics was found at Station 3 (Beach) with a concentration of 15.87 ± 1.05 particles/g and the lowest abundance was identified at Station 1 (Ecotourism Area) with a concentration of 1.25 ± 0.04 particles/g. The dominating characteristics at each station are the types of Fragments and Films, yellow and transparent colors, and microplastics <1mm in size.

Abstract

Abstract

Cijulang River is one of the leading ecotourism objects in Pangandaran, West Java Province, Indonesia. However, the river has a variety of activities that can increase the water pollution in the river such as Green Canyon cliffs tourism, ecotourism of mangrove conservation, housing, and industrial siting. Macrobenthos is one of the bio-indicators that can assess the rate of water pollution in rivers, especially their organic pollutants. Therefore, this research aims to determine water pollution status in Cijulang River Tourism by comparing various biotic indices. The study was conducted at four site sampling locations from upstream to downstream in the rainy season period and dry season period using different methods namely, line transect model, water quality assessment by biological indexing (diversity, species dominant, and family biotic), species deficit, and organic measurement. The research showed 5873 macrobenthos and divided into 27 species with an average abundance of 167 ind.m-2 and are mainly dominated by gastropod species Faunus ater (40%). They are extreme species that can live in high organic pollution and water salinity. This divided the research of quality water assessment of Cijulang River into three categories as follows: slightly polluted (score 36-46) at Green Canyon site, moderately polluted (score 50-60) at Boat Shelter and Muara Cijulang location, and highly polluted (score 66) at Nusawiru site.Keywords:RiverBio-indicatorOrganicAquatic pollution
