Abstract

The development of tourist villages requires the participation of local communities in all stages of development starting from planning, implementation and supervision. However, in reality, the community is often not involved, their participation is even neglected. The area along the coast in Lhok Nga District, Aceh Besar Regency, Indonesia, especially in Gampong Mon Ikeun, has enormous potential to be developed as a beach tourism village. Even though the local government has made efforts to develop the area in this village, the reality is that tourism activities in the village have not been able to bring prosperity to the community. This community service activity (PKM) by a team from Universitas Syiah Kuala aims to provide assistance in the planning process for coastal tourism areas in the village. The approach taken is to involve community participation in identifying the potential and problems that exist in their area in an effort to develop their village as a coastal tourism area that can support the local community's economy. The product produced is in the form of a development plan document for the coastal tourism area which can later be used as a guideline in implementing the tourism development of Gampong Mon Ikeun in the future and enhance their prosperity.

Abstract

This community service aims to promote public awareness of sustainable transportation through learning from Japans multimodal transport system. The activity was held at the Bunkasai Festival of Syiah Kuala University in Banda Aceh, where visitors were introduced to Japans transportation modesranging from rail, bus, bicycle-sharing, and walking systemsthrough maps, models, and interactive discussions. The program also presented a case study on the potential for Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) along Banda Acehs Trans Koetaradja corridor, connecting the concept of sustainability in transport with local practices. This initiative adopted an informative exhibition method supported by visual aids such as transport maps, infographics of Japanese mobility systems, and an audio visual content showing how transportation system works Japan. The main objectives were to enhance community knowledge about sustainable transport, encourage discussions about alternative modes to private motorized vehicles, and introduce the relevance of TOD principles for Banda Acehs urban mobility. The results show that most visitors demonstrated increased awareness and curiosity about sustainable modes after engaging with the exhibition. The activity highlights the potential for public education and advocacy through cultural festivals as a means of linking academic research, urban sustainability, and community participation.

Abstract

Community-based rural development plays an important role in strengthening food security and improving community welfare. This community service activity aimed to formulate a participatory development plan for a food self-sufficient village in Gampong Lam Manyang, Peukan Bada District, Aceh Besar Regency. The village possesses significant natural resource potential, particularly in agriculture and fisheries, which can support the development of local food systems. However, several challenges remain, including limited infrastructure, low economic diversification, and suboptimal management of local resources. The implementation method applied a participatory approach involving field observation, community surveys, interviews, and group discussions with village officials and residents. These activities were conducted to identify village potentials, existing problems, and possible development strategies. Community participation was emphasized throughout the planning process to ensure that the proposed development plan aligns with local needs and conditions. The results indicate that Gampong Lam Manyang has strong potential to develop into a food self-sufficient village through the optimization of agricultural land, strengthening farmer institutions, improving village-owned enterprises (BUMG), and increasing community involvement in local economic activities. The proposed development plan includes strategies for improving agricultural productivity, strengthening local economic institutions, and encouraging sustainable use of village resources. The participatory planning process carried out in this community service activity demonstrates that community involvement can significantly contribute to sustainable village development and enhance local capacity in managing available resources effectively.

Abstract

Rendahnya keterhubungan keterampilan vokasional pemuda disabilitas dengan pasar pariwisata dan terbatasnya informasi serta sarana pemasaran yang aksesibel menjadi persoalan di Desa Wisata Budaya Lubok Sukon. Program pengabdian ini bertujuan membangun ekosistem pariwisata inklusif dengan memberdayakan pemuda tunarungu SLB B YPAC Banda Aceh sebagai pelaku wirausaha kreatif dalam rantai nilai wisata desa. Program menerapkan Collaborative and Inclusive Participatory Action Research (CIPAR) melalui empat tahap: identifikasi kebutuhan dan audit aksesibilitas, pendampingan desain serta kewirausahaan, pengembangan luaran aplikatif, dan evaluasi reflektif bersama mitra. Data proses dihimpun melalui observasi, dokumentasi kegiatan, diskusi mitra, dan pencatatan luaran. Hasil menunjukkan terbentuknya unit bisnis sosial dengan kapasitas produksi awal 50–100 unit suvenir premium per bulan; tersusunnya peta wisata berbasis ArcGIS; tersedianya rancangan dan ruang promosi inklusif “Inclusion Corner”; serta pengembangan kemasan UMKM kuliner dengan QR Code storytelling. Perubahan utama terletak pada pergeseran produk vokasional yang sebelumnya belum terhubung dengan kanal pasar menjadi produk bertema Lubok Sukon yang memiliki ruang promosi, narasi produk, dan mekanisme pembayaran digital. CIPAR berperan sebagai kerangka kolaboratif untuk menyelaraskan keputusan desain, kebutuhan komunikasi pemuda tunarungu, dan kebutuhan Pokdarwis. Program ini menunjukkan bahwa penguatan kapasitas saja belum memadai; keberlanjutan pemberdayaan memerlukan integrasi kapasitas produksi, akses pasar, informasi destinasi, dan tata kelola bersama.

Abstract

The riverbank area of Garot Village, Darul Imarah District, Aceh Besar Regency, is highly susceptible to annual flooding due to its relatively low topography, high settlement density, and inadequate drainage sanitation management. This study aims to analyze the drainage sanitation management system, identify the condition of drainage facilities and infrastructure, and formulate strategies for addressing drainage-related problemsin the riverbank area of Garot Village. A qualitative approach employing thematic analysis was adopted through field observations, documentation, and interviews with village officials. The findings reveal that the drainage system in Garot Village is predominantly composed of open channels that simultaneously function as domestic wastewater disposal systems, leading to sedimentation, water pollution, unpleasant odors, and a reduction in drainage capacity. These conditions are further exacerbated by the presence of slum settlements along the Krueng Daroy and Krueng Neng riverbanks, which increase flood vulnerability in several hamlets each year. To overcome these challenges, the study recommends the implementation of an eco-drainage concept through the construction of biopores, infiltration wells, control chambers, and water gates, supported by community awareness programs to promote environmental cleanliness and sustainable sanitation management. The implementation of these strategies is expected to improve the quality of the residential environment, reduce flood risks, and establish a more effective and environmentally sustainable drainage system in the riverbank area of Garot Village.
