Abstract

This study focuses on the government’s communicative actions in public sphere during the 2020 Covid-19 pandemic. The government’s steps have seen to be experiencing inconsistency, ambiguity, and counter productiveness in handling the Covid-19 pandemic issue. The material objects in this study are government statements quoted by three online mass media, namely kompas.com, tribunnews.com, and detik.com, which were published from March to May 2020. There were twelve selected media articles from these media. The text was analyzed using critical discourse analysis. This research uses a qualitative approach with a critical paradigm. The research data is processed using Habermas’ communicative action theory where the validity of a communication is tested through 4 validity claims, such as truth, sincerity, comprehensibility, and legitimacy. The results of the study explained that from 12 news containing 31 government statements, found 10 confusing statements, 6 erroneous statements, 7 false impressions and 8 illegitimacy and inaccuracies. This shows an indication of the government’s inability to act communicatively, especially in the aspect of comprehensiility claims that lead to information distortion. The government statements use a lot of jargon and terms that are not well defined, lead to misinformation

Abstract

Slank is a phenomenal Indonesian band that exists today. Its existence in the music industry for more than three decades has given its style to Indonesian music, consistent with the criticisms that represent the voices of some people who are dominant at the bottom or are intimidated. The neatly fragmented social dynamics in each Slank album are like historiography in the form of music. With the postmodernism paradigm and the Poststructuralist approach a la Foucault, this article will examine the relations of power and music in the existence of Slank. Thus finding that 'criticism' is a form of Slank's continuation with its 'exotic' style representing Indonesia which has a lot of cultural blends that always appear arbitrary as a Slank identity to become an aesthetic existence a la Slank, which is a slice of meeting social issues with music that stretches wide

Abstract

The development of digital technology has created new interaction spaces that enable online prostitution, one of which is through the MiChat application. The anonymity and people nearby features make it easier for users to interact without clear identities, creating a loophole for covert sexual transactions. This research uses a critical paradigm with a qualitative approach through interviews, digital observation, and document analysis to understand how anonymity operates as a mechanism of power. The results show that coded language such as "ST/LT," "Open BO," and "300 up" are used to disguise transactions, while the application's algorithm reinforces power relations through account visibility. Social factors such as economic pressure, a consumptive lifestyle, and low digital literacy contribute to increasing adolescent vulnerability. In conclusion, online prostitution on the MiChat application is not only the result of individual abuse, but also the result of the interaction between technological design, anonymity, and social structures that support exploitative practices in the digital space

Abstract

The National Democratic Party (NasDem) emerged by promoting the “Restoration of Indonesia” movement, an idea intended to revive the spirit of nationalism as envisioned in the 1945 Proclamation of Independence. The slogan “Restoration of Indonesia” distinguishes NasDem from other political parties; however, more than a decade later, tangible improvements in national and political conditions remain limited. The restoration concept has not been fully institutionalized within the party’s internal structure, creating a gap between political discourse and practical implementation. This study examines how NasDem’s symbolic cues communicate the idea of restoration, the fantasy themes that emerge in this communication, and how symbolic convergence occurs between party elites and constituents. It also analyzes the extent to which a communication model based on symbolic convergence and fantasy themes strengthens party brand identity. Grounded in Symbolic Convergence Theory (SCT) and Fantasy Theme Analysis (FTA) developed by Ernest G. Bormann, and reinforced by Kevin Lane Keller’s branding theory, this research adopts a post-positivist paradigm with a qualitative explanatory approach. Data were collected through online literature review, observation, expert interviews, and focus group discussions. The findings show that fantasy themes and symbolic cues are strategically used to communicate the “Restoration of Indonesia” narrative. Symbolic convergence occurs through restorative communication mechanisms aimed at building shared understanding between party elites and constituents. This communication model contributes significantly to strengthening brand identity. However, the study also reveals that inconsistencies between fantasy narratives and internal political practices may undermine the credibility and sustainability of the party’s brand identity
