Abstract

Abstract This study discusses the communication strategies implemented by Smart Education in building trust among parents of children with disabilities in Parepare City. This study departs from the need to understand how trust among parents of children with disabilities can be built, because children's limitations make parents tend to be more cautious in entrusting assistance to others. Therefore , the importance of appropriate communication strategies by educational institutions in creating a sense of security and trust. This study is a descriptive qualitative study that describes data obtained in the field related to the procedures for directors and tutors to build trust among parents of children with disabilities in Parepare City. Data collection was carried out through interviews, as well as through books and other literature. These literatures were used as theoretical foundations and references to strengthen the analysis of data obtained from the field. This study shows that Smart Education builds trust among parents of children with disabilities through five main approaches:empathetic communication, participatory communication, humanistic communication, the ability to overcome information challenges, and specific strategies for building trust. Empathy is demonstrated through emotional understanding of parents, participation through their active involvement in the educational process, and humanistic communication through warm and equal supported relationships by the theories of Symbolic Interactionism and Communicator Credibility, these findings confirm that communication based on empathy, participation, and honesty not only strengthens parental trust but also contributes to more effective inclusive education practices . Abstract

This study aims to reveal the symbolic significance of the Bugis Lontara copying tradition (palontara) and its subtle dakwah messages as represented in the documentary film Andi Oddang To Sessungriu: The Tale of Knowledge Preservers Enduring the Digital Age, particularly in the context of the tension between cultural preservation and the dominance of digital technology. Employing a qualitative interpretive approach with Roland Barthes’ semiotic analysis and Paul Ricoeur’s hermeneutic framework, the research examines visual motifs, narrative structures, and cinematic elements of the film, supported by in-depth interviews with director Andi Musran and protagonist-palontara Andi Oddang To Sessungriu. Findings show that everyday acts of copying dripping bamboo-pen ink, page stamping, cellakeng as divine calling, silent workspaces, and the shift from manual to digital typing are not merely technical processes but multilayered symbols connoting sincerity (ikhlas), steadfastness (istiqamah), relentless effort (reso temmangingi), honor-compassion (siri’ na pacce), mutual humanizing-strengthening (sipakatau-sipakalebbi-sipatokkong), and upright honesty (malempu). These symbols harmoniously fuse Bugis philosophical values with Islamic ethical principles, transforming the palontara figure into an exemplar of dakwah bil hal (propagation through exemplary action) and cultural jihad in the digital era. The documentary itself functions as a contemporary palontara, successfully bridging ancestral wisdom with younger generations without compromising authenticity. This research recommends that Islamic broadcasting institutions, educational bodies, and cultural activists develop more documentary-based and hybrid-media dakwah strategies that prioritize local wisdom, contemplative aesthetics, and intergenerational dialogue to counter the erosion of intangible heritage while strengthening moderate, inclusive, and contextual Islamic propagation in Indonesia.

Abstract

This research examines the presence and implications of manipulative messages in the Netflix documentary "Ice Cold: Murder, Coffee, and Jessica Wongso." By using framing analysis on the film, this research highlights how these messages shape the audience's perception and understanding of the events. The filmmaker's stance on the case attempts to present both sides of the case fairly, allowing the audience to draw their own conclusions. This film portrays Jessica with nuance to consider the possibility that Jessica is both a perpetrator and a victim of the system and excessive media coverage. Furthermore, this research explores the cultural and societal contexts that have influenced the production of the documentary film, revealing how these factors contribute to the overall message. These findings indicate that the film director presents a perspective that attempts to view Jessica as a victim of media pressure and a legal process deemed unfair. Interviews with legal experts, Jessica's friends, and scenes showing the weaknesses and inconsistencies of the presented evidence also contribute to the narrative that Jessica might be innocent and instead a victim of unbalanced media framing. Until the year 2024, Jessica was declared free. This release marks a long-awaited victory for justice. This documentary film plays a significant role in raising public and judicial system awareness about the potential injustices that can befall an individual. This research is not merely entertainment, but rather an important medium that can contribute to voicing injustice and striving for justice in complex and controversial cases.

Abstract

Digital technology has transformed Islamic da'wah, positioning YouTube as a key platform where effectiveness depends on the quality of religious content, SEO alignment, algorithmic literacy, and audience engagement strategies in contemporary digital society. This study examines the role of algorithmic optimization in reshaping contemporary Islamic da'wah through a qualitative single-case study of the YouTube channel Barakka’na Mangkoso (South Sulawesi, Indonesia). Data were collected through in-depth interviews, digital observation of YouTube content, and analysis of YouTube Analytics documents. Data analysis employed interactive processes of data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing. Findings reveal that algorithmic logic has become constitutive of digital da'wah, fundamentally influencing content structure, pacing, and thematic selection. However, strict ethical guardrails prohibiting deceptive clickbait and transactional promises, combined with deep Bugis cultural rootedness, enable the channel to expand reach dramatically without compromising religious authenticity. The study concludes that effective contemporary da'wah now requires dual competence in religious scholarship and algorithmic literacy, offering a replicable model for other preachers and institutions seeking to amplify authentic Islamic messages in the platformized public sphere. The study concludes that effective digital da'wah requires integrating algorithmic literacy with Islamic scholarship and employing ethical, culturally grounded strategies to expand reach without compromising religious authenticity.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the many problems of uncertified mosque waqf land at the Maiwa District Office of Religious Affairs (KUA), Enrekang Regency. This study aims to examine the effectiveness of persuasive communication in minimizing the problems of mosque waqf land, including its forms, strategies, and supporting and inhibiting factors. This study uses a qualitative method with a descriptive approach. Data collection techniques were carried out through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation with informants consisting of the Head of the Maiwa District KUA, religious instructors, mosque administrators, religious leaders, and the local community. The results of the study indicate that persuasive communication implemented through interpersonal communication, group communication, organizational communication, and mass communication is considered effective in minimizing the problems of waqf land. Supporting factors for the effectiveness of persuasive communication include the role of the government, da'i, waqif, and nadzir, while inhibiting factors include the lack of competent human resources, low waqf literacy in the community, and the geographical conditions of the region. In addition, the persuasive communication strategies used, including the bil-hikmah (wisdom), al-mau'idzah hasanah (intelligible), al-mujadalah (intelligible), bil-hal (intelligible), bil-mal (intelligible), collaborative strategies, and the use of online media, have proven effective in resolving waqf land issues. This research highlights the importance of strengthening persuasive communication strategies and increasing waqf literacy to support the optimization of waqf land management in the community.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the relationship between the cultural value of siri’, digital Islamic communication practices, and the transformation of religious authority in the activities of Facebook Professional Mode (FB Pro) content creators in Majene Regency. The novelty of this research lies in the integrative analysis that connects the local siri’ culture with digital Islamic communication and the transformation of religious authority in the context of creator economy on social media, which is still rarely studied in the Mandar community. The research employs a qualitative method with a descriptive approach. Data were obtained thru observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation of FB Pro content creators and Mandar cultural figures, and then analyzed thru data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The research results show that: (1) FB Pro has transformed the communication patterns of the Mandar community into spaces for social interaction, digital preaching, identity formation, and economic activities; (2) the value of siri’ remains the foundation of ethical digital Islamic communication thru practices of maintaining politeness, self-respect, and moral responsibility in content production; and (3) religious authority has undergone a transformation from a model centered on scholars to a more distributed authority, where content creators gain legitimacy thru interaction, popularity, and audience trust on social media. The main findings of this research indicate that digital Islamic communication in Majene Regency occurs thru a negotiation process between local cultural values, digital economic interests, and changes in religious authority, resulting in a hybrid model of religious authority that combines traditional authority and digital legitimacy within contemporary Muslim society.

Abstract

This study examines Anre Gurutta Prof. Dr. H. M. Faried Wadjedy’s persuasive communication approach and its contribution to building a hybrid digital da’wah model in the era of Society 5.0. Using a qualitative single-case study approach, data were collected through in-depth observations of offline assemblies, critical discourse analysis of 150 YouTube videos and 50 live broadcast sessions (2020–2025), participant observation, and in-depth interviews with da’i and their media team. The findings reveal five consistent persuasive characteristics (ethos rooted in Bugis-Makassar traditional authority, pathos through local narratives and humor, simplified logos, adaptive kinesics, and strong social presence) that remain consistent across physical and digital spaces. This model demonstrates that authentic local identity, far from being a barrier, is a strongest asset in the digital age. MDHA offers a replicable blueprint for Indonesian da’wah, demonstrating that deeply rooted traditions and cutting-edge technology can coexist harmoniously. This study recommends its implementation by preachers, Islamic institutions, and policymakers, as well as further comparative and longitudinal research across Indonesia's diverse cultural contexts.
