Abstract

Translation is extremely crucial when communicating information, culture, messages, and so on between two or more people who speak different languages. The problem arises when it comes to translate a fantasy stories or games because the translation technique and ideology are heavily relied on the culture. This research aims to find out the influence of translation technique on ideology in translating the novel “Overlord”. This method of this research is qualitative, and the data collected is used to determine the analytical unit, which is the fantasy novel "Overlord". The unit is then broken into smaller parts, which correspond to the fantasy and gaming terms. Following that, a data sample is drawn from chapters one through five of the novels before removing unneeded and irrelevant data for this study. The data were analyzed based on Mile and Huberman techniques; data condensation, display, verification, and concluding. The findings of this research are the use of 7 translation techniques, which are: discursive creation (60), established equivalent (15), borrowing (184), Amplification (9), literal translation (118), modulation (29), and Particularization (4), and the most used translation technique is borrowing (184) and literal translation (118) in the novel. This means that the translation ideology that is used is foreignization which means that the translation is oriented to the source language culture.

Abstract

Semantic analysis through the study of contextual meaning theory is a useful approach to examine the meaning of song lyrics in detail. This approach allows us to delve further into the layers of meaning implied behind the series of words contained in the lyrics to reveal aspects that may not be explicitly visible but are at the core of the communication between the songwriter and his audience. This research aims to provide a deeper understanding of concepts such as happiness represented and communicated through poetic language in Taylor Swift’s songs. The research method used is a descriptive qualitative method of relevant song lyrics and cognitive semantic studies used in analyzing data sourced from several Taylor Swift songs. The results of this study show that Taylor Swift uses conceptual metaphors and figurative meanings to describe happiness in love relationships. In the song "Lover," Taylor Swift uses metaphors of travel and freedom to express happiness in living their relationship. In "Call It What You Want," she uses light and endurance metaphors to convey the happiness gained from lasting love. In "Sweet Nothing," Swift uses the metaphor of physical manifestation to describe happiness in simple moments.

Abstract

This study examines the formation of neologisms in English-language digital media, focusing on the technology news platforms TechCrunch and Wired. Using O’Grady & Guzman (1996) morphological framework, this study identifies five main word formation processes: compounding, word blending, derivation, acronyms, and conversion. These processes are analyzed qualitatively through 10 neologisms extracted from both media. TechCrunch and Wired were selected due to their central role in documenting and popularizing technological innovations and terminology. The findings show that derivation and compounding are the most dominant patterns, indicating that morphological creativity in a technology-driven context is highly dependent on simplicity and clarity. These results highlight the dynamic relationship between linguistic innovation and technological development, suggesting that neologisms not only reflect lexical changes but also serve as tools to accommodate emerging digital realities.
