Abstract

Problem-solving and decision-making are crucial competencies in the educational setting, indispensable for tackling the multitude of difficulties that educators and administrators encounter on a daily basis. This paper describes the theoretical foundations and real-world uses of these processes in educational environments. The article emphasises the significance of utilising the IDEAL model (Identify, Define, Explore, Anticipate, and Look Back) proposed by Wehmeyer as a problem-solving framework. Using library research, researchers gather, analyse, and arrange data from journals, books, and past studies on the adoption of management methods in the field of education, especially in problem solving and decision-making. This paper highlights the significant influence of organised problem-solving and strategic decision-making on educational outcomes, emphasising their crucial role in promoting a flexible and flourishing educational environment.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi seberapa banyak murid-murid di Indonesia yang memiliki kelancaran dalam berbahasa Inggris serta untuk mengevaluasi dampak media sekitar terhadap pengetahuan bahasa Inggris di kalangan anak-anak. Fokus utama penelitian ini adalah untuk memahami peran media hiburan seperti film, acara televisi, musik, dan media sosial dalam pembelajaran bahasa Inggris di kalangan murid-murid. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode kualitatif. Peneliti akan melakukan wawancara langsung dengan murid-murid di setiap kelas di tempat bimbingan belajar (bimbel) yang diajar oleh peneliti. Wawancara ini akan mencakup pertanyaan tentang bagaimana mereka mengetahui bahasa Inggris, sumber-sumber belajar yang mereka gunakan, dan sejauh mana mereka mengaplikasikan bahasa Inggris dalam kehidupan sehari-hari. Selain wawancara, selama proses mengajar, peneliti akan menggunakan bahasa Inggris sebagai bahasa pengantar untuk mengamati seberapa banyak murid yang dapat memahami tanpa perlu diterjemahkan ke dalam bahasa Indonesia. Pendekatan ini bertujuan untuk mengukur pemahaman langsung murid terhadap bahasa Inggris dalam konteks yang lebih praktis dan nyata. Temuan dari penelitian ini diharapkan dapat meningkatkan kesadaran masyarakat Indonesia akan pentingnya belajar bahasa Inggris dan mendorong peningkatan minat serta upaya dalam mempelajari bahasa ini. Dengan demikian, diharapkan bahwa penggunaan media hiburan sebagai metode belajar bahasa Inggris dapat lebih diakui dan diterapkan secara luas sebagai strategi yang efektif dan menyenangkan dalam pembelajaran bahasa.

Abstract

Studi ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis tehknik yang digunakan dalam menerjemahkan lagu "Bertaut" karya Nadin Amizah ke dalam bahasa Inggris oleh Emma Heesters menggunakan teori dari Molina dan Albir (2002). Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengevaluasi seberapa baik hasil terjemahan lagu tersebut menyampaikan makna, emosi, dan nuansa lagu aslinya. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif, dengan menonjolkan beberapa strategi seperti adaptasi, modulasi, ekuivalensi, amplifikasi, transposisi, reduksi, dan terjemahan langsung. Tantangan yang ditemukan dalam menerjemahkan lirik adalah bagaimana berbagai strategi penerjemahan mempertahankan makna lagu dari lirik aslinya. Karya ini berkontribusi pada bidang studi penerjemahan dengan menjelaskan tantangan dan teknik yang terlibat dalam menerjemahkan lirik lagu. Hasilnya, metode yang digunakan Emma Heesters dalam menerjemahkan lirik lagu dapat menyampaikan makna dan emosi dari lirik lagu aslinya sekaligus menjelaskan kompleksitas yang terdapat dalam menerjemahkan lirik dari bahasa Indonesia ke dalam bahasa Inggris

Abstract

The integration of the SRL strategy into instructional practices is motivated by the desire to nurture students' autonomy in learning, a trait that is increasingly emphasized in contemporary educational discourse. This study investigates the integration of the Self-Regulated Learning (SRL) strategy into the instructional framework of an Interpretive Reading course. Given the emphasis on fostering students' learning independence inherent in the SRL strategy, it becomes crucial to ensure that instructional practices align with this objective, particularly within the context of a course designed for first-semester university students. The study adopts a case study approach within an Interpretive Reading class at a private university in Indonesia. Here, the focus is on evaluating the instructional strategies vis-à-vis the criteria delineated in each phase of the SRL strategy: Forethought and Planning, Monitoring of Performance, and Reflection on Performance. The findings reveal that the instructional interventions implemented by the lecturer predominantly meet the criteria established for each phase of the SRL strategy. These instructions serve as scaffolding mechanisms, guiding students towards developing their autonomy in learning processes. Furthermore, the study underscores the effectiveness of these instructions in enhancing students' interpretive reading skills. Consequently, the outcomes of this study hold implications for the integration of digital texts within the instructional context, suggesting their potential to further support and enhance student learning experiences in Interpretive Reading classrooms.

Abstract

This community service aims to provide not only knowledge but also readiness to face the TOEFL (Test of English as Foreign Language) exam for students and lecturers in West Nusa Tenggara. This community service is carried out online using zoom technology as a learning medium for one month. The target community is the campus community, namely students and lecturers from various universities in West Nusa Tenggara. The method used in this community service is the Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition (CIRC) method, where participants are divided into several groups, then given tips and strategies in answering the TOEFL test. Each group discussed and exchanged ideas in answering all the questions in the TOEFL. The cost of this community service activity is fully sourced from the service implementation team. After the implementation of this community service activity, participants have the ability and readiness as well as a quite significant score than before.

Abstract

Song is an aesthetic expression of the soul through words. Songs can also be interpreted as literary works because of the beauty of the words used in each verse. Song has two main building structures, namely, an inner structure and a physical structure. In addition, in a song, there are several markers, both in the form of meanings that need to be translated by the readers themselves and linguistic markers that do not require reinterpretation. The field of study that studies and examines signifiers, symbols, and signs is called semiotics. Semiotics is a scientific study that studies the signs that exist in a literary work. The purpose of this research is to find out the change of meaning in Pangeran Inaq's song, to find out the hypogran or background of the creation of Pangeran Inaq's song, to find out the hermeneutic reading of Pangeran Inaq's song, and to find out the creation of meaning in song. This research method uses a qualitative Pangeran Inaq's interpretive approach. The results of this research show that the replacement of meaning occurs in the first stanza of the first line and the third and fourth stanzas. The hypogram, or background, for the creation of this song, is a child who misses his mother's presence. To release his longing, he created this song. The result of a hermeneutic reading of this song is someone who is remembering all the love and kindness of his mother, who has passed away; he has never been separated from his mother; his sorrows and joys are always with his mother. The creation of meaning occurs because there is repetition in every stanza of the last line

Abstract

Literary work is the arrangement of concepts that are imagined into writing that has aesthetic and moral values. In addition, literary works must be able to produce beautiful works of art. Many elements are involved in the creative process of literary works, including science, insights, thoughts, beliefs, and real experiences, as well as elements of the author's imagination. Besides having structural elements, novels also have semiotic elements, which study the structures, rules, and conventions that make signs have meaning and significance. This research aims to identify the semiotic elements in Eka Kurniawan's novel "Cantik Itu Luka". In this study, researchers used semiotic theory according to the views of Charles Pierce. After researching, the novel "Cantik itu Luka" by Eka Kurniawan shows a lot of semiotic word usage , such as icon (topeng wayang, pabrik, kucing hitam), index ( jejak kaki di hutan, hujan ders, merokok), and symbol ( bunga, api, rokok). Researchers use a qualitative descriptive method, or a descriptive method accompanied by analysis activities, to obtain data. The data was obtained by reading Eka Kurniawan's book "Beautiful Is Hurt" and analyzing it semiotically, finding many explicit signs. Utilizing this analysis, readers should be educated to appreciate literary works and understand the semiotic system in them.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis penggunaan gaya bahasa pada novel “The Little Prince” karya Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, serta menggali makna filosofis di balik narasinya. Novel ini merupakan salah satu karya sastra yang dikenal memiliki makna filosofis mendalam tentang kehidupan, persahabatan, imajinasi dan empati. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah dengan pendekatan deskriptif-kualitatif dengan teknik analisis stilistika, yaitu mengidentifikasi, mengklasifikasi, dan menganalisis gaya bahasa yang digunakan dalam novel. Sumber data yang digunakan adalah sumber data tertulis yang terdapat dalam novel “The Little Prince” yang dipublikasikan pada tahun 2017 oleh Macmillan yang terdiri dari 110 halaman. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa dalama novel “The Little Prince” karya Antoine de Saint-Exupéry terdapat beberapa penggunaan gaya bahasa yaitu gaya bahasa personafikasi, gaya bahasa metafora, gaya bahasa simile, gaya bahasa ironi, dan gaya bahasa onomatopea. Abstract

Among works of fiction, idiomatic phrases are some of the most complicated problems in translation. Idioms are a significant part of every language whose metaphorical meanings cannot be directly conveyed through translation. The idioms help maintain most of the subtlety and unique cultural characteristics that define a language. This paper will elaborate on the translation of idiomatic phrases in the novel "Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows" by J. K. Rowling by reflecting upon various methods that the translator may employ while rendering English idioms into Indonesian. The data for this research was obtained through a descriptive qualitative approach, where this research was conducted on how translators retain or alter the meaning of idiomatic expressions from the novel in question in the target cultural context. The research determined that translators use literal translation, idiomatic translation, and paraphrasing, among the other techniques, which best allow them to be as faithful as possible to the original meaning and fit into the culture they are targeted for. The present study calls attention to the problems idiomatic translation poses and the role of culture in literary translation.

Abstract

Bahasa merupakan alat komunikasi yang manusia gunakan untuk berinteraksi dengan sesama manusia. Dalam kehidupan sehari-hari khususnya pada era modern ini, manusia menggunakan berbagai jenis bahasa dalam berkomunikasi, salah satunya yaitu bahasa Inggris yang merupakan bahasa resmi yang digunakan pada ranah internasional. Tujuan daripada pengamatan ini adalah untuk mengamati pengaruh era digital terhadap perkembangan kemampuan dwibahasa pada anak usia dini khususnya di Indonesia. Pengamatan dilakukan dengan mengkaji studi literatur yang menyoroti perkembangan kemampuan bahasa Inggris anak usia dini, serta peran kemajuan teknologi dalam perkembangan metode pembelajaran bahasa Inggris. Hasil pengamatan ini menunjukkan peran kemajuan teknologi benar adanya mendukung lebih banyak variasi terhadap metode edukasi bahasa Inggris, sehingga pembelajaran bahasa Inggris menjadi lebih menarik dan interaktif. Namun, penggunaan teknologi sendiri belum dapat sepenuhnya maksimal mengingat kondisi-kondisi tertentu yang menjadi tantangan seperti kurangnya dukungan dan kemampuan untuk mendapatkan akses ke teknologi, tantangan dari aspek kebudayaan yang masih sangat kental, dan kondisi geografis pada daerah di pedalaman. Pentingnya keterlibatan peran orang tua, tenaga pengajar serta fasilitas pendukung menjadi poin utama dalam meningkatkan perkembangan dan kemampuan dwibahasa pada anak usia dini.
