Abstract

Bligo fruit (Benincasa hispida Thunb) is one of medicinal plants that used to cure typhoid fever which caused by Salmonella typhi bacteria. The aim of this research is to find ont the effect of ethanol concentration as a solvent from Bligo fruit (Benincasa hispida Thunb) extracts as an antibacterial, especially to Salmonella typhi. This simplicia was being extracted with 96% ethanol, 70% ethanol, and 50% ethanol by using maceration method for 3x24 hours. The antibacterial activity test was done by diffusion of agar method to the MHA medium by obserring the resistor zone which formed from 96% ethanol, 70% ethanol and 50% ethanol. The diametres that have been obtained are 6,815 mm for 96% ethanol, 25,223 mm for 70% ethanol while for 50% ethanol there is no resisten zone can be seen. From the result canbe conclude that the best concentration of ethanol that has a great potencial as resistor to Salmonella typhi bacteria is the Bligo fruit (Benincasa hispida Thunb) extracts of 70% ethanol.Key words: Bligo fruit (Benincasa hispida Thunb), Antibacterial, Salmonella typhi.

Abstract

The increasing number of deaths caused by infection encourage researchers conduct early stage in the search for new antibiotics to resolve the issue. This study aims to isolate microbes aktinomicetes contained in karst areas of Bantimurung-tourist park district South Sulawesi province to see the antimicrobial inhibitory activity. The initial stage to get new antibiotics, researcher isolated, identified, characterized and tested the antimicrobial activity of isolates to be studied. One of microbes widely studied to be taken of its active compound is aktinomycetes. The research phase is actinomycetes isolation, isolates purification, and testing isolates antagonistic  actinomycetes  to see  whether  there  is a power resistor formed. From the results obtained 8 isolates  actinomycetes isolation, but only 6 isolates that can be grown back properly. Six of isolates  actinomycetes obtained, tested antagonist was done to see  the activity of inhibitory  power. Two of active isolateswas  obtained  that have  inhibitory  against  several  microbes  that P. aeruginosa and S. aureus which is then coded isolates of K21 and K32.

Abstract

Antioksidan merupakan senyawa yang dapat menghambat atau mencegah kerusakan akibat oksidasi radikal bebas. Rimpang bangle (Zingiber cassumunar Roxb.) mengandung senyawa polifenol yang memiliki aktivitas antioksidan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui aktivitas antioksidan dari ekstrak rimpang bangle dalam meredam radikal ABTS [2,2’-azino-bis-(3-etilbenzotiazolin)-6-asam sulfonat]. Rimpang bangle di maserasi dengan etanol 96%. Ekstrak diidentifikasi senyawa flavanoid dan dilakukan uji aktivitas antioksidan dengan metode ABTS dengan pembanding kuersetin. Hasil uji aktivitas antioksidan rimpang bangle memiliki nilai IC50 sebesar 25,320 ppm yang tergolong antioksidan sangat kuat sedangkan kontrol postif kuersetin diperoleh nilai IC50 3,394 ppm yang termasuk kategori sangat kuat. Ekstrak rimpang bangle memiliki aktivitas antioksidan sangat kuat dalam meredam radikal bebas.

Abstract

Education About Healthy School Snacks and Early Identification of Borax Using SpiceNutrition for school-age children are a significant factor in developing small and medium-scale food businesses. Unfair competition in the food business encourages the addition of hazardous chemicals to extend the shelf life of foods such as borax and formalin. This community service aims to understand students, parents, and teachers about healthy snacks and how to identify borax content in food using spices (turmeric). This community service is carried out at Ali Imran Kindergarten, Rappocini District, Makassar. Forty students attended this counselling, 35 parents and eight teachers. This activity begins with the presentation about the importance of healthy snacks and the dangers of borax and formalin. A demonstration of the use of turmeric to detect the presence of borax was carried out in front of parents and teachers. In the end, they were allowed to practice. The results showed an increase in the ability of parents and teachers (100%) to identify borax in food using turmeric.Keywords : Borax, Healthy snack, Turmeric, CounselingKebutuhan siswa akan makanan dan jajanan merupakan faktor utama berkembangnya usaha makanan skala kecil dan menengah. Pesatnya perkembangan usaha makanan tersebut bukan tidak mungkin mendorong timbulnya persaingan antar pedagang yang kurang sehat termasuk penambahan bahan kimia berbahaya untuk memperpanjang masa simpan makanan seperti boraks dan formalin. Pengabdian masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk memberikan edukasi terhadap siswa, orang tua dan guru mengenai pentingnya jajanan sehat dan cara mengidentifikasi kandungan boraks dalam jajanan menggunakan bumbu dapur. Pengabdian ini dilakukan di Taman Kanak-kanak (TK) Ali Imran, Kecamatan Rappocini, Makassar. Penyuluhan ini diikuti oleh 45 orang siswa, 40 orang tua siswa dan 6 orang guru. Kegiatan ini diawali dengan pemaparan materi mengenai pentingnya jajanan sehat serta bahaya boraks dan formalin. Demonstrasi penggunaan kunyit (Curcuma domestica) untuk mendeteksi adanya boraks dilaksanakan di depan orang tua siswa serta guru dan di akhir kegiatan mereka diberikan kesempatan untuk mempraktikkan. Hasil penyuluhan menunjukkan adanya peningkatan kemampuan orang tua siswa dan guru untuk mengidentifikasi boraks dalam makanan menggunakan kunyit yang ditunjukkan dengan semua peserta (100%) berhasil mempraktikkan.Kata kunci: Boraks, Jajanan, Kunyit, Penyuluhan

Abstract

Upper Tract Infection is an infection that occurs in the nasal cavity, sinuses, and throat. Some of the diseases included in this infection are colds sinusitis, tonsillitis and laryngitis. This study is to determine the profile of the use of cefadroxil drugs in ARI patients in several places. ARI (Acute Respiratory Infection) affects all ages, but babies and toddlers are the most susceptible to infection. This study used secondary data got from literature searches on the use of cefadroxil antibiotics in patients with ARI. Data taken as data on the percentage of the number of patients based on the type of age, type of work, type of education. The patient’s domicile based on the ward in several places. The results showed that from several journals, among them were male patients who were most affected by Acute Respiratory Infection (ARI). This was due to frequent activities outside the home. In general, the profile of the use of cefadroxil antibiotics in patients with acute respiratory infections (ARI) is in accordance with the guidelines from the WHO and the Ministry of Health 2005.

Abstract

One source of antibiotics-producing microorganisms that are now widely used as a treatment for infections comes from the soil. Soil is an excellent medium for the growth and development of various microorganisms. The search for new antibiotics is currently urgently needed, because their use is not following the instructions, causing disease resistance. This study aims to get antimicrobial-producing microbial isolates that can inhibit the test microbes and identify the type of isolates. The first stage of microbial isolation was the dilution of the soil sample from 10-1 to 10-5 using the method of pouring on Nutrient Agar (NA) and Potato Dextrose Agar (PDA) medium. It carried further testing of antimicrobial activity against several test microbes out. The results of the isolation got 4 isolates of bacteria and 4 isolates of fungi with different identification of each isolate. In the test microbe, Escherichia coli isolates that gave activity were isolates IB1, IB2, IB3. In the Staphylococcus aureus test bacteria, the isolate that produces activity is the isolate IB1, IB2, IB3, IB4, IJ2, Meanwhile, for the test fungus Candida albicans was inhibited by isolates IB1, IJ1, IJ2, IJ3 and IJ4.

Abstract

Bakteri asam laktat atau juga disebut mikroorganisme probiotik merupakan bakteri yang memiliki kemampuan menghasilkan asam organik. Bakteri asam laktat yang terkandung pada kombucha teh diketahui mempunyai kemampuan dalam menghambat bakteri patogen seperti Eschericia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, dan Salmonella thypi. Tujuan dari penelitian ini yaitu untuk mengetahui bagaimana bakteri asam laktat yang dihasilkan dari fermentasi kombucha teh dalam menghambat akivitas bakteri Eschericia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, dan Salmonella thypi dengan metode in vitro. Prosedur penelitian ini dilakukan dalam beberapa tahapan yaitu preparasi teh kombucha, isolasi dan seleksi bakteri asam laktat, identifikasi bakteri asam laktat dengan metode pewarnaan Gram, uji biokimia dengan metode uji katalase dan uji motilitas, dan uji aktivitas antibakteri menggunakan kertas cakram. Dari hasil penelitian dengan karakteristik mikrosopik pewarnaan Gram menunjukkan hasil Gram positif,dan karekteristik makroskopik pada uji katalase negatif, uji motilitas negatif, dan daya hambat isolat 5 dan 6 memiliki kemampuan dalam menghambat bakteri uji. Diameter penghambatan yang didapatkan yaitu pada Staphylococcus aureus diameter penghambatan yaitu 7,1±0,52 mm dan 7,65±0,38 mm, pada Escherichia coli diameter penghambatan yaitu 7,86±0,08 mm dan 6,36±0,29 mm dan pada Salmonella thypi diameter penghambatan yaitu 6,43±0,06 mm dan 7,13±0,08 mm. Isolat yang didapatkan dari kombucha teh yaitu sebanyak 6 isolat, dan merupakan bakteri Gram positif, bentuk sel bulat, berwarna putih tulang, dengan tepi entire dan elevasi flat, yang diketahui memiliki potensi dalam menghambat bakteri Eschericia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, dan Salmonella thypi.

Abstract

Masa remaja, yang berlangsung dari sekitar usia 11 atau 12 tahun hingga sekitar 20 tahun, merupakan periode peralihan di antara masa kanak-kanak dan dewasa. Selama fase perkembangannya, remaja dihadapkan pada tugas-tugas tertentu yang harus mereka selesaikan. Mereka sering merasakan tekanan untuk memenuhi standar dan harapan sosial dari kelompok mereka. Jika mereka tidak berhasil menyelesaikan tugas-tugas tersebut, mereka cenderung melihat hidup sebagai penderitaan dan tidak menyenangkan, yang bisa mendorong mereka melakukan perilaku-perilaku seperti melukai diri sendiri, melarikan diri dari keluarga dan tanggung jawab, terlibat dalam pergaulan bebas, atau bahkan terjerumus ke dalam penggunaan alkohol dan obat-obatan terlarang, termasuk narkotika dan psikotropika. adapaun metode yang digunakan dalam kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat ini yaitu penyuluahan atau sosialisasi. hasil yang diharapkan dari kegiatan yaitu meningkatnya pengetahuan dan kesadaran remaja terkait bahaya penyalahgunaan narkoba.

Abstract

Tekelan (Choromolaena odorata L.) merupakan tanaman yang digunakan sebagai di masyarakat sebagai obat luka dan antioksidan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh variasi teknik pengeringan daun tekelan terhadap aktivitas antioksidan ekstrak etanol menggunakan metode ABTS. Hasil penelitian aktivitas antioksidan metode ABTS menggunakan beberapa variasi tehnik pengeringan simpilisia yaitu dikering anginkan, teknik pengeringan sinar matahari langsung, sinar matahari langsung tidak langsung dan oven suhu 50oC dengan pembanding menggunakan vitamin C. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan nilai IC50 berturut-turut 28,909 µg/mL, 22,984 µg/mL,10,645 µg/mL dan 27,639 µg/mL dengan nilai IC50 vitamin C sebagai pembanding yaitu 4,558 µg/mL. Kesimpulan dari penelitian ini adalah terdapat pengaruh variasi metode pengering terhadap penangkalan radikal bebas ABTS, aktivitas antioksidan dengan metode pengeringan menggunakan cahaya matahari secara tidak langsung memiliki aktivitas terbaik.
