Abstract

(Lantana camara L.) is one of the wild plants that can be used to treat various diseases such as skin diseases and diarrhea. The aim of the study to determine the antibacterial activity of ethanol extract of leaf (Lantana camara L.) can inhibit the growth of bacteria Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus. This research was conducted in May 2019 at the Makassar College of Pharmacy. The phase of this research is weighing extracts, extract concentration variant manufacturing process and testing the antibacterial activity of the ethanol extract of tembelekan leaves. The analytical method used is the agar diffusion method. The results showed that the Tembelekan leaves taken from Tana Toraja Regency had a inhibitory effect on the growth of Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus at concentrations of 5, 10 and 20%. The  inhibition zone formed in Escherichia coli bacteria was 8.61, 11.57 and 18.67 mm and in Staphylococcus aureus bacteria that was 9.42, 11.68 and 17.34 mm.

Abstract

Purpose: Helping TPS 3R partners to solve the problem of managing waste into compost is efficient and effective. Methodology: carried out at TPS 3R Darul Aman, method of implementing innovation by increasing the quantity and quality of compost using EM4 (effective microorganism) to accelerate the decomposition of organic matter and the ability to provide nutrients for plants. Results: improvement in soil management into compost and compost quality. Community service has been carried out involving TPS3R Darul Aman partners by providing education on making compost. Limitations: No study covers all aspects. Authors are advised to explain research limitations, as well as further studies or future plans. Contribution: The agricultural sector in the use of compost and the lack of TPS3R employees makes the waste management process difficult.

Abstract

Purpose: to improve the quality and production of fish floss and jabu-jabu brand "KONYNYA" through the application of a spice grinding machine and multi-purpose drainer with a cylindrical model with a centrifugal system. Methodology: The methodology used in this devotion includes: Socialization, Training, Intervention and application of technology, Assistance and evaluation, Sustainability Results: The application of a spice grinding machine produces a smooth and homogeneous spice texture, and improves the taste of the product. The centrifugal system's multi-purpose cylindrical drainer has succeeded in reducing oil levels, thus improving the quality and hygiene of the "KONYNYA" brand of fish floss and jabu-jabu products typical of Madello Village. Conclusion: The implementation of a multi-purpose spice grinding machine and drainer with a cylinder model centrifugal system brand "KONYNYA" in Madello Village has been carried out effectively and on target. Limitations: This devotion only reached one partner, namely Konynya Madello Village. Therefore, it is necessary to involve similar partners or groups of MSME shredded producers in the local area to improve the quality of local superior products. Contribution: This devotion makes a significant contribution to increasing knowledge and skills in the production process, as well as improving quality to support local superior products. The implication of this research is increasing the competitiveness of local products in the market, which is expected to improve the welfare of local communities.

Abstract

Purpose: To help the partner ‘Moreira Farm’ to solve the problem of efficient and effective hydroponic plant management and quality. Methodology: carried out at Moreira Farm in the Al Anshar East Timor Islamic Boarding School area, the method of applying innovation by increasing the quantity and quality of hydroponics by providing technological tools and innovations to streamline and increase the yield of hydroponic plants so that they are of higher quality than before. Results: the addition of innovation technology tools increases the results of hydroponic management with better quality. Community service has been carried out by involving partners Moreira Farm Pondok Pesantren Al Anshar East Timor by providing assistance in the form of innovation technology tools and materials. Conclusions: Moreira Farm Partnert experienced significant improvements and increases in hydroponic crop yields. Limitations: This service is limited to land conditions that still need to be revitalised. Contribution: This service is useful in the agricultural sector, namely Hydroponics, Aquaponics and Nutrient Film Technique.

Abstract

Cosmos caudatus Kunth. is a plant that has secondary metabolites that are antioxidant. This study aims to determine the antioxidant activity of the ethanol extract of kenikir leaves which was extracted using a variety of extraction methods with the radical antidote ABTS. Samples of kenikir leaves were processed until they became simple and then extracted using three methods, namely maceration, percolation and digestion. The extracts obtained were subjected to phytochemical screening and the antioxidant activity of the ethanol extract of kenikir leaves was tested using UV-Vis spectrophotometry using the ABTS method (2,2 azinobis (3-ethylbenzothyiazoline-6-sulfonic acid). In testing the antioxidant activity of kenikir leaves, the results showed that the extract using the maceration method had antioxidant activity with an IC50 of 166,962 µg/mL, the extract using the digestion method IC50 84,117 µg/mL and the ethanol percolation extract of kenikir leaves 113,901 µg/mL, with quarcetin. as a positive control with an IC50 of 90.566 µg/mL. This study concluded that extracts with a variety of extraction methods had antioxidant activity, namely digestion (strong), percolation (medium), and maceration (weak). Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui aktivitas antioksidan dari ekstrak etanol daun kenikir yang diekstraksi menggunakan variasi metode ekstraksi dengan penangkal radikal ABTS. Sampel daun kenikir diolah hingga menjadi simplisia kemudian dilakukan ekstraksi dengan tiga metode yaitu maserasi, perkolasi dan digesti. Ekstrak yang diperoleh dilakukan skrining fitokimia dan pengujian aktivitas antioksidan ekstrak etanol daun kenikir dilakukan menggunakan spektrofotometri UV-Vis dengan menggunakan metode ABTS (2,2 azinobis (3-ethylbenzothyiazoline-6-sulfonic acid). Pengujian aktivitas antioksidan daun kenikir diperoleh hasil bahwa ekstrak dengan metode maserasi memiliki aktivitas antioksidan dengan IC50 166,962 µg/mL, ekstrak metode digesti IC50 84,117 µg/mL dan ekstrak perkolasi etanol daun kenikir 113,901 µg/mL, dengan kuarsetin sebagai kontrol positif dengan IC50 90,566 µg/mL. Penelitian ini menyimpulkan bahwa ekstrak dengan variasi metode ekstraksi memiliki aktivitas antioksidan yaitu digesti (kuat), perkolasi (sedang), dan maserasi (lemah). Abstract

Sawo duren memiliki metabolit sekunder seperti flavonoid, alkaloid, saponin, dan fenolik. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui sifat antibakteri fraksi n-butanol daun sawo duren (Chrysophyllum cainito L) dengan menggunakan difusi cakram dan tingkat toksisitasnya terhadap larva udang Arthemia salina Leach. Dengan pelarut etanol, 300 gram sampel dimaserasi. Kemudian, dalam ekstraksi cair-cair menggunakan pelarut n-butanol, aktivitas antibakteri fraksi n-butanol diuji dengan metode difusi cakram. Zona hambat diperoleh pada konsentrasi 1,25%, 2,5%, dan 5%, masing-masing dengan nilai 7.45 ± 0.0, 9.41 ± 0.1, dan 11.43 ± 0.1. kemudian pada fraksi n-butanol daun sawo duren dengan konsentrasi 2, 4, 6, 8 dan 10 ppm bersama dengan air laut sebagai kontrol. Kemudian, sebagai respons terhadap toksisitas, parameter kematian dihitung setelah 24 jam perlakuan. Hasil fraksi n-butanol dari daun sawo duren memiliki aktivitas antibakteri berspektrum luas dan efek toksisitas, dengan nilai LC50 sebesar 4.39 ppm yang termasuk dalam kategori sangat toksik. Hasil skrining fitokimia fraksi n-butanol menunjukkan bahwa flavanoid, alkaloid, dan fenolik semuanya bersifat positif.

Abstract

Head lice infestation (Pediculosis capitis) remains a global public health concern, exacerbated by growing resistance to conventional pediculicides such as permethrin and malathion. This study aimed to evaluate the pediculicidal activity and formulation stability of a topical cream containing Annona squamosa (sugar apple or srikaya) seed extract as a natural alternative for treating pediculosis. The ethanolic extract of A. squamosa seeds was obtained through maceration, producing a 10.005% yield. Pediculicidal assays were conducted using various extract concentrations (5%, 7.5%, and 10%), followed by formulation of oil-in-water creams with extract concentrations of 7.5%, 10%, and 12.5%. Physical stability tests included assessments of viscosity, pH, spreadability, adhesion, and homogeneity. Results showed a dose–response relationship, with lice mortality increasing from 60% at 5% extract to 87% at 10%. Extract. The formulated creams demonstrated high efficacy—86% to 96% mortality—comparable to 1% permethrin. All formulations maintained acceptable physicochemical properties (pH 4.8–5.5, viscosity within 27,000–47,000 cps) and remained stable after accelerated storage. These findings indicate that A. squamosa seed extract is a potent pediculicidal agent that can be effectively incorporated into a stable topical formulation. The study supports the potential of A. squamosa as a safe, sustainable, and plant-based alternative for managing pediculosis while addressing the challenge of chemical resistance.

Abstract

Buni fruit (Antidesma bunius L.) is a native Indonesian plant that contains anthocyanin, flavonoid, and phenolic compounds, so it has the potential as a source of natural antioxidants that are beneficial for health. This study aims to evaluate the antioxidant activity of extracts taken using various extraction methods because they can affect the results, composition of bioactive compounds, and the ability to scavenge free radicals. Buni fruit simplicia was extracted using 96% ethanol through three extraction techniques, namely maceration, soxhletation, and reflux. In vitro antioxidant activity testing was carried out using the DPPH method by determining the IC₅₀ value. The reflux method gave the highest yield (13.99%) when compared to maceration (9.42%) and soxhletation (12.60%). However, the extract from the maceration method had an IC₅₀ value (74.445 µg/mL) indicating the strongest antioxidant activity compared to soxhletation (155.104 µg/mL) and reflux (161.894 µg/mL). The results of one-way ANOVA analysis showed that the extraction method did not have a significant effect on the percentage of DPPH inhibition (p>0.05). This indicates that differences in extraction methods have not been able to produce statistically significant differences in antioxidant activity.

Abstract

Acne is associated with the proliferation of acne-related bacteria, particularly Propionibacterium acnes and Staphylococcus epidermidis. This study evaluated the antibacterial activity, physical stability, microbiological quality, and skin irritation potential of an Antidesma bunius extract gel. The extract was tested against both bacterial species using an agar diffusion method, and a gel containing 2.5% extract was prepared with different Carbopol concentrations. The extract produced inhibition zones of 13.31–23.64 mm, whereas the gel formulations produced inhibition zones of 17.51–19.69 mm. The formulations remained homogeneous and showed acceptable organoleptic properties, pH, viscosity, spreadability, and adhesion after stability testing. Total plate and yeast and mold counts met the applicable microbiological limits. No erythema or edema was observed in albino rabbits. These findings indicated that A. bunius extract gel has potential as a topical anti-acne formulation.

Abstract

Acne vulgaris is a widespread skin condition associated with Propionibacterium acnes, and conventional antibiotics often lead to resistance and irritation, underscoring the need for safer, natural therapies. This research explored the antibacterial potential of Strychnos ligustrina (Bidara Laut) leaf extract and its formulation into a topical gel. Leaves collected from Bima, West Nusa Tenggara, were processed into ethanol extracts, which were then screened for phytochemicals, confirming the presence of tannins and phenolics. Antibacterial activity was evaluated using disc diffusion at concentrations of 15%, 20%, and 25%, with clindamycin as the positive control and DMSO as the negative control. Gel formulations containing Carbopol 940 at concentrations of 0.5%, 1%, and 1.5% were prepared and evaluated for their physical properties, including organoleptic characteristics, homogeneity, pH, viscosity, spreadability, adhesion, and stability under accelerated storage conditions. The extract exhibited moderate inhibition of P. acnes, with the most substantial effect observed at a concentration of 25% (7.73 mm). Among the gel formulas, the 1.5% Carbopol gel (Formula 3) was the most stable and produced the largest inhibition zone (12.89 mm), although it was still lower than that of clindamycin (33.87 mm). Overall, the findings suggest that Bidara Laut extract can be formulated into a stable gel with measurable antibacterial activity, indicating its potential as a natural topical option for acne management. However, further refinement is needed to enhance its efficacy.
