Abstract

Background: Hemorrhoid disease, or piles, remains a prevalent global health issue. Hemorrhoidectomy is a common surgical intervention; however, effective postoperative pain management remains a persistent clinical challenge, directly influencing recovery outcomes and patient satisfaction. Objective: This rapid review aimed to identify the most effective nursing and clinical interventions for managing postoperative pain following hemorrhoidectomy. Methods: A rapid evidence review was conducted using five electronic databases: PubMed, ScienceDirect, Sage Journals, SpringerLink, and Scopus. The search included studies published between 2016 and 2024 that investigated pain management strategies for patients undergoing hemorrhoid surgery. Articles were screened based on predefined inclusion and exclusion criteria. A total of eight original research articles met the eligibility criteria and were included in the final analysis. Data on study design, sample size, intervention type, and pain outcomes were extracted and synthesized narratively. Results: Among the various interventions evaluated, the use of absorbable gelatin sponges as hemostatic agents demonstrated superior efficacy in reducing postoperative pain compared to other commonly used materials, such as epinephrine-soaked gauze. Six out of the eight included studies reported significant reductions in pain intensity and improved patient comfort with gelatin sponge application. These findings highlight the potential of this intervention as a cost-effective and clinically practical approach for enhancing postoperative care. Conclusion: Absorbable gelatin sponges represent a promising option for postoperative pain management following hemorrhoidectomy. Nonetheless, further large-scale and high-quality studies are warranted to strengthen the evidence base and inform broader clinical adoption

Abstract

Many emergency situations require immediate first aid. The community plays a crucial role in saving victims of cardiac arrest or traffic accidents, which are among the leading causes of premature death in Indonesia. Unfortunately, the level of public knowledge and preparedness in providing first aid remains low, highlighting the need for improvement through education and training. Community health cadres were chosen as the target group because they are closely connected to the community, easily accessible, and can act as first responders before professional medical personnel arrive. This study aimed to enhance the knowledge and readiness of community cadres in recognizing and providing effective first aid through CPR and first aid training in Pangandaran Village. A pre-experimental one-group pre-test and post-test design was used, involving 33 participants selected through accidental sampling. Data analysis was conducted using a paired sample t-test. The results showed a significant improvement (p<0.05) in the cadres’ knowledge and preparedness after the training. Based on these findings, it is recommended that similar training programs be conducted regularly by health institutions and community organizations to strengthen the capacity of cadres in providing first aid, thereby increasing the survival rate of victims of accidents and cardiac arrest within the community. Keywords: Accident, cardiac aArrest, knowledge, preparedness.

Abstract

Non-communicable diseases (NCDs), particularly hypertension and type 2 diabetes mellitus, pose serious health challenges in coastal communities, which are often socioeconomically and geographically vulnerable. Limited access to healthcare and inadequate preventive health information further worsen these issues. This literature review aims to describe the health profile and associated risk factors of NCDs in coastal populations. A structured search was conducted through PubMed, Google Scholar, and ScienceDirect using keywords including non-communicable diseases, hypertension, diabetes, coastal community, and risk factors. Inclusion criteria comprised peer-reviewed primary research (quantitative or qualitative), published in English or Indonesian between 2020 and 2025. Of 67 articles identified, 17 met the criteria and were analyzed descriptively. Hypertension emerged as the most frequently studied NCD, followed by diabetes and metabolic syndrome. Commonly reported risk factors included obesity, low physical activity, high sodium intake, smoking, stress, aging, and low socioeconomic status. Some studies also noted the influence of seafood consumption, sleep quality, and comorbid conditions. Among elderly populations, factors such as health insurance and access to health counseling influenced health-seeking behaviors. These findings highlight the urgent need for tailored, community-based strategies to prevent and control NCDs in coastal regions.

Abstract

Background: The incidence of cardiac arrest or Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) in the community that cannot be saved increases every year. This is because they do not get the right and fast action due to the community's ignorance and inability to assist. Objective: This study aimed to evaluate health education on increasing knowledge and readiness of respondents in helping cardiac arrest victims. Methods: This study used a pre-experimental design with a one-group pre-post test approach to 52 respondents, namely the general public. The research sample was recruited using convenience sampling techniques. The sample was given health education on basic life support (BLS) and cardiac arrest management directly with several interactive sessions using visual aids such as posters and presentation slides. Data collection used a valid and reliable questionnaire (Knowledge and Readiness to Help). Data were analyzed univariately through frequency distribution, central tendency, mean difference, and bivariate tests using paired sample t-tests. Results: There was an increase in respondents' BLS knowledge from 6.87 to 11 (p<0.001) and readiness to help, with an average score increasing from 60.4 to 63.3 (p=0.002). These results indicate that health education can increase knowledge about BLS and readiness to help respondents. Research results show that readiness to act in emergencies depends on more than theoretical understanding; it also requires practical training, self-confidence, and direct experience. Conclusion: Health education significantly improved public knowledge and readiness to provide first aid for cardiac arrest victims. These findings indicate that structured Basic Life Support (BLS) education is effective in strengthening community preparedness and timely emergency response. Integrating regular and practical BLS training into community health programs may further enhance public capacity to respond to cardiac arrest events.

Adolescents are in a vulnerable developmental phase and are influenced by social norms, self-perception, and peer environments. The Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) provides a conceptual framework for developing protective intentions and behaviors through the strengthening of attitudes, subjective norms, and perceived behavioral control. Therefore, a structured TPB-based educational program that aligns with the context of vocational schools is needed to prevent sexual violence among adolescents. To determine the effectiveness of a TPB-based educational program in improving knowledge, shaping positive attitudes, strengthening protective norms, and enhancing self-control among students at SMKN 2 Pangandaran in preventing sexual violence. The program was implemented as a community service activity using a participatory TPB-based educational approach through health education sessions, interactive discussions, situation simulations, the establishment of positive school norms, and follow-up mentoring. Evaluation was carried out through process observation, participant reflection, and assessments of changes in understanding and readiness to engage in protective behaviors. The educational program was conducted effectively, systematically, and was well received by participants. Adolescents demonstrated improved understanding of the forms, risks, and prevention mechanisms of sexual violence; developed more critical attitudes toward risky behaviors; showed stronger social support for sexual violence prevention; and exhibited greater confidence in making safe decisions and protecting themselves. The TPB-based educational program at SMKN 2 Pangandaran effectively strengthened adolescents’ capacity to prevent sexual violence by enhancing attitudes, subjective norms, and behavioral control. This program is recommended for continuous implementation and adaptation in other schools with the support of collaboration between educational institutions, health professionals, parents, and policymakers.  Keywords: Adolescent, Health Education, School, Sexual Violence, Theory of Planned Behavior
