Abstract

The fishery product processing industry has an important role in increasing the added value and welfare of coastal communities. Kuala Jambi District, East Tanjung Jabung Regency has abundant shrimp raw material potential, opening up opportunities for the development of processed products such as shrimp chips. There is a lack of studies that assess the financial feasibility aspect of the shrimp chips business in Kuala Jambi District, so financial feasibility research needs to be carried out to obtain the financial condition of the shrimp chips processing business, especially in the Poklahsar Tanjung Jaya Bersama. The purpose of the study is to analyze the financial feasibility of processed shrimp chips in the Poklahsar Tanjug Jaya Bersama Kuala Jambi Tanjung Jabung Timur. The research method used is a case study with a quantitative descriptive approach. Data was obtained through interviews, observations, and documentation studies, then analyzed using financial investment criteria, namely NVP (Net Present Value), BCR (Benefit Cost Ratio) and IRR (Internal Rate of Return). The results of the analysis showed that the shrimp chips processing business in Poklahsar Tanjung Jaya Bersama had a positive NPV value, BCR greater than 1, and IRR higher than the discount rate, which means that financially the business was declared viable to run and had the potential to increase group income and encourage the development of sustainable fisheries agribusiness in the coastal area of Kuala Jambi.

Abstract

Women play an important role in agriculture by increasing production by 20-30% in developing countries, including Indonesia. However, in recent years, the production of coffee from the Girisenang Farmers Group has decreased significantly. This study aims to determine the role played by female coffee farmers from the Girisenang Farmers Group in coffee farming activities and household activities, and to determine how much their income contributes to their family income. This study was located in Legok Nyenang, Girimekar Village, Cilengkrang, Bandung Regency, West Java. This study used a descriptive quantitative research design and survey method, with 40 female coffee farmers from the Girisenang Farmers Group as respondents. Data analysis used the Harvard Model gender analysis, work time analysis, and income contribution analysis. The results of this study indicate that female farmers have an important role in coffee farming activities which is manifested in their role together with their husbands, but are still limited in decision making. Female farmers also have a very large role in household activities. Last, the contribution of female farmers' income to their family income is included in the moderate category.

Abstract

Grape farming activities in Pangandaran Regency are an effort to sustain livelihoods on suboptimal land. Grape farming is carried out in every home garden. Grape farming is still done in a simple manner with limited land area. This study aims to analyze the factors that influence grape farming in Pangandaran Regency. This regency has the potential for grape cultivation, but productivity and efficiency still vary among farmers. One example is the grape farmers in Ciganjeng Village, Pangandaran Regency, where 34 farmers are engaged in grape farming. Grape farming activities are managed by the Taruna Tani Mekar Bayu Farmer Group. The farmer group conducts training and provides grape seedlings. The study uses a quantitative approach. The data collected includes land area, number of seedlings, labor, fertilizer use, and production costs. Data analysis was performed using multiple linear regression to determine the effect of each factor on farming activities. The results showed that the variables of land area, number of seedlings, and labor had a significant effect on the income level of grape farmers, while the factors of farming experience and production costs had no significant effect. The coefficient of determination value showed that the model was able to explain most of the variation in farming income. These findings indicate the importance of improving the efficiency of production input use and strengthening farmers' capacity through training and technical assistance. In addition, efforts are needed to improve the productivity and sustainability of grape farming in Pangandaran Regency.

Abstract

The conversion of rainfed rice fields into housing and development projects threaten the sustainability of agriculture, farmers' welfare, and food security in Sidenreng Rappang Regency. This study aims to analyze the level of sustainability and identify sensitive attributes that affect rainfed rice farming in Pitu Riawa District in response to the pressure of land use change. The research method uses the Multi-Dimensional Scaling (MDS) approach which uses Rapfish Software to analyze sustainability indices based on five dimensions, namely ecology, economy, social, legal and institutional, and technology. Data were collected through observations, in-depth interviews with 33 farmers, and Focus Group Discussions (FGD) with stakeholders. The results of the analysis showed that the sustainability status of rainfed rice farming in Pitu Riawa District was in the "quite sustainable" category with an overall index of 58,46. Further leverage analysis revealed key sensitive attributes in each dimension, namely the reduction of water catchment areas (ecological dimension), the decline in farmers' income (economic dimension), changes in the social structure of the community (social dimension), the importance of extension to farmers (legal and institutional dimension), and the technological adaptation of the non-agricultural sector (technological dimension). These findings recommend the need for policies and interventions focused on these sensitive attributes to improve the sustainability of rainfed rice farming.

Abstract

Beef tomatoes have good market prospects because they are attractive in appearance and meet the needs of the fresh market, resulting in high sales and relatively stable demand. Beef tomatoes can be cultivated using a hydroponic system in a greenhouse. This system can improve quality and productivity, but requires a relatively large allocation of funds to run production activities, making it an important factor affecting the structure and level of agricultural profits. This study aims to analyze the profitability of beef tomato farming using the hydroponic system in Cibodas Village, Lembang Subdistrict, West Bandung Regency. The study employs a survey method. The research location was deliberately chosen because farmers in Cibodas Village actively engage in hydroponic beef tomato cultivation. The results of the study indicate that hydroponic beef tomato farming in Cibodas Village requires an average cost of Rp23,251,347.92 and generates an average income of Rp40,416,250.00, resulting in an average profit of Rp17,164,902.08 per growing season with an RC ratio of 1.74, indicating that this business is viable and provides good returns.

Abstract

The livestock sector plays a strategic role in agricultural development and improving community welfare, especially in developing countries such as Indonesia. However, small-scale farmers still face various challenges such as limited access to resources, lack of technical knowledge, and low adoption of modern technology. The top-down approach that has been applied in empowerment programmes is often ineffective because it places farmers in a passive role. This study aims to assess the effectiveness of participatory communication approaches in empowering farmers through a literature review using a descriptive-analytical approach. The findings indicate that participatory communication can increase technology adoption, livestock productivity, and programme sustainability through the strengthening of local capacity. Collaboration between farmers, extension workers, and researchers in the knowledge exchange process has proven to generate more contextual and applicable solutions. The success of this approach is greatly influenced by the quality of facilitators, institutional support, and community readiness. However, challenges such as knowledge gaps and resource constraints remain obstacles that need to be overcome. Thus, participatory communication is not only an extension method but also a crucial strategy in creating inclusive, needs-based, and sustainable farmer empowerment.

Abstract

Pak choy farming is the organized cultivation of bok choy plants to produce economically valuable agricultural products. This study aims to determine the current state of hydroponic and conventional bok choy cultivation techniques and to compare the feasibility of hydroponic and conventional bok choy farming. A total of 18 bok choy farmers were interviewed. The analysis used in this study was the R/C Ratio and B/C Ratio. The results indicate that both cultivation methods are feasible because they have R/C and B/C ratios above 1. The hydroponic method offers advantages in land use efficiency and environmental control, while the conventional method is more cost-efficient due to lower costs. Each method presents its own challenges, both technically and financially. Therefore, the choice of cultivation method is tailored to the conditions and capabilities of the farmer, as well as the objectives of the farming business.

Abstract

The Farmland Road Program (JUT) is a step taken by the government in providing infrastructure in agricultural areas. The JUT program requires community participation. Getasan District is one of the districts in Semarang Regency, Central Java Province, which received the JUT program in several hamlets. The purpose of this study was to identify the forms and stages of farmer participation in the JUT program and to identify the Arnstein ladder of participation in the JUT program in three hamlets in Getasan District. Respondents in this study were determined using a cluster sampling technique, namely dividing the population into several groups based on hamlets, then determining a quota in each hamlet of 20 farmers (a total of 60 farmers). Research data collection used survey techniques through interviews, observations, and documentation. The results of the study found that the highest form of participation was labor, and the highest stage of participation followed by respondents was at the JUT utilization stage. The results of the Arnstein ladder analysis found that the participation of the Ngaduman, Nglelo, and Tawang hamlets in the JUT program was at the placation level (5th ladder) in the Pseudo Participation category (tokenism ladder). Farmer participation in the JUT program, namely communication between the community and the government, is going well, but the government is still conducting a feasibility assessment.).
