Abstract

This research aims to investigate the changes in Arabic language in online communication caused by social media. Social media, as a platform for online communication connecting people worldwide, has influenced contemporary life. One of the most common impacts is language change. Therefore, this research will focus on examining the influence of social media on Arabic language change, especially in online communication. The research method employed is qualitative. Data were obtained from active users of Instagram and YouTube who communicate in Arabic. Data collection techniques involved observation and questionnaires, while data analysis utilized narrative analysis. The results indicate that social media significantly influences the shift in Arabic language from fushha> to ‘a>miya  in online communication. Out of 52 respondents, 43 stated that social media has a negative impact on language change in online communication. Colloquial Arabic is preferred due to its perceived informality and relaxed nature, yet classical Arabic remains important for formal contexts.

Abstract

This study aims to develop an innovative maharah al-kitabah assessment instrument based on Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) in the ninth-grade Arabic textbook published by the Indonesian Ministry of Religious Affairs. The issue addressed in this study is the limited number of questions measuring HOTS in the existing textbook, resulting in a learning process that primarily focuses on basic skills such as remembering and understanding. This study employs the 4-D development model, which includes definition, design, and development. The research subjects are maharah al-kitabah questions found in the ninth-grade Arabic textbook. The findings indicate that most questions in the textbook emphasize Lower Order Thinking Skills (LOTS), with only a few assessing higher-order skills such as analysis, evaluation, and creation. Based on these findings, this study proposes the development of HOTS-based questions that encourage students to think more critically and creatively, such as questions that assess text analysis, evaluation, and creative writing skills.

Abstract

This study aims to develop and evaluate Arabic teaching module based on Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) to enhance students' critical thinking abilities. The textbook was developed using the ADDIE model (Analyze, Design, Develop, Implement, Evaluate) and focused on reading skills. The sample included 18 students from Al-Hikmah Batu School. Data were collected through interviews, observations, tests, and documentation, yielding both qualitative and quantitative results. The findings showed that the educational materials, integrating HOTS components, were relevant to students' daily lives, covering topics like greetings, family, school, hobbies, and food. Expert assessments of content and media validity were high, with a score of 90.62%. The effectiveness test showed a significant increase in student performance, from 58.22 in the pre-test to 75.94 in the post-test. The paired sample T-test confirmed the statistical significance of the results (T = -10.050, p = 0.000), demonstrating the effectiveness of the HOTS-based reading textbook.

This study uses a qualitative approach with an ethnographic study method. This study analyzes communication patterns, linguistic adaptation, and internalization of Arabic literary values among students. The results of this study indicate that dormitory culture not only accelerates language acquisition, but also shapes mindsets and aesthetic expressions in literature. The results of this study also confirm that a dormitory-based linguistic ecosystem can create an effective learning environment to improve language proficiency and literary understanding. This study contributes to sociolinguistic research and Arabic language pedagogy, with implications for the development of dormitory-based curriculum for teaching Arabic language and literature at PTKIN.

Abstract

Despite the central role of Arabic in Islamic teachings, its influence on students' religious character in higher education remains underexplored, particularly in Indonesia. Understanding this relationship is essential as Arabic serves as a linguistic tool and a medium for internalizing religious values. This study aims to explore the potential relationship between Arabic language learning and the student's religious character at Universitas Negeri Semarang. Utilizing a case study method, we collected data through interviews, participant observation, and religiosity questionnaires, ensuring data validity through triangulation of methods and sources. The analysis employed thematic analysis to uncover key insights. The findings indicate a positive correlation between Arabic language learning and various dimensions of students' religious character, including ritualistic practices, beliefs, knowledge, and experiential. This finding suggests that Arabic language instruction enhances linguistic skills and plays a crucial role in shaping students' religious identities and values, potentially influencing their attitudes and behaviors in broader contexts.

Abstract

The international community's contribution to the conflict in the Middle East did not provide a solution but rather exacerbated the conflict. This gave birth to various criticisms from various parties, both in the form of oral, written, and image. Using a qualitative descriptive method, this research analyzes five caricatures by @rahma_toons and @hajjaj_cartoons. The theory used in this research is Charles Sanders Peirce's perspective semiotic theory. This research aims to analyze the various elements of icons, indexes, and symbols in the five caricatures uploaded by @rahma_toons and @hajjaj_cartoons. In addition, this study also aims to explain the various icons, indexes, and symbols as a representation of criticism of the conflict that occurred in the Middle East. The results show that the 5 caricatures represent various criticisms. The first criticism is aimed at the UN and Arab countries that only provide symbolic support. The second criticism is aimed at the United States' partiality towards Israel and further aggravating the conflict. The third criticism is aimed at Israel's attack on UNIFIL which shows a violation of international law.

There are pronunciation errors such as وذهبنا is pronounced as وذهمنا. The display of Arabic subtitles in the video is also an effort to compare the writing and sound of the wrong source text. The content of Rafiq TV's YouTube channel shows that South Koreans' development of Arabic language studies is good, and even Rafiq and his friends show their skills and skills in conducting Arabic interactions in the digital space on a massive scale.
