Abstract

The development of effective and innovative mathematics learning modules is an important effort to improve the quality of the learning process, especially in materials that require concept understanding and creative thinking skills, such as trigonometry. One model that can be used to achieve this goal is creative problem solving (CPS), which invites students to find innovative and effective solutions to complex mathematical problems. This study aims to develop a math learning module based on creative problem-solving on trigonometry material that is valid, practical, and effective. The module development was conducted using the ADDIE model which consists of five stages, namely analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. The test subjects involved students of SMAN 21 Gowa. The research instruments were module validation sheets, educator and learner response questionnaires, observation sheets, and learner learning outcomes tests. The research data analysis focused on analyzing the validity, practicality, and effectiveness of the creative problem-solving-based mathematics learning module on trigonometry material. The results showed that the creative problem-solving-based math learning module on trigonometry material had met the criteria of validity, practicality, and effectiveness. Thus, this learning module is suitable for use in the implementation of mathematics learning, especially in trigonometry material.

Abstract

Abstrack: This research aims to describe the problem-solving ability of fractional counting operations in terms of Keirsey's personality type. The type of research is qualitative research with a descriptive approach. The research subjects were 4 students from class VII A of SMPN 18 Selayar with 1 subject for each personality type. The research instruments used personality type classification instruments, problem-solving tests, and interview guides. The results of the research show that 1) Students with the guardian personality type are able to understand the problem, make a solution plan, carry out the solution plan, and check again, 2) Students with the artisan personality type are able to understand the problem, make a solution plan for problem 1 but are unable to solve problem 2, unable to carry out the solution plan and unable to check again, 3) Students with the rational personality type are able to understand the problem, make a solution plan for problem 1 but are unable to solve problem 2, carry out the solution plan, and check again, 4) ) Students with the idealist personality type are able to understand the problem, make a plan to solve problem 1 but are not able to solve problem 2, and also unable carry out the solution plan, as well as to check again.

Abstract

Teachers must be aware of and take action regarding students' errors in creating incomplete mathematical concepts, also referred to as construction holes, particularly when it comes to answering numeracy literacy questions. This will help students rebuild their understanding of numeracy literacy questions overall. By using diagrams to depict the answers to numeracy literacy questions both before and after the defragmentation process, this study seeks to identify the places where pupils fall short conceptually. A mixed-methods research methodology was employed for this study, which was conducted in two phases: quantitative analysis was used in the first phase, and qualitative analysis in the second. Based on the research findings, the numeracy component of the statistics curriculum is where the gaps in students' thinking processes are located. Students' thought structures can be strengthened by the use of defragmentation. When answering questions on numeracy and literacy, the defragmentation method utilized is scaffolding at level two, which consists of explaining, reviewing, and restructuring. The mean, mode, and median material in the student results contained construction holes that were later resolved through a scaffolding type that involved three steps: explaining, reviewing, and restructuring. This process helped students avoid making mistakes when answering the questions about the mean, mode, and median.

Abstract

This study aimed to test the effectiveness of using YouTube and e-modules for statistics learning for social science students enrolled in statistics courses. Statistics is often considered an abstract and difficult subject to understand, which can trigger anxiety and reduce students' learning motivation. A total of 31 students of the Islamic community development study program at UIN Sultan Maulana Hasanuddin participated in this study. Students were divided into one group that underwent two learning sessions: first, they studied frequency distribution material with YouTube learning media (audiovisual), and second, central measurement with e-module learning media (text-based), with a comparative quantitative approach evaluated through pretest and posttest. The results showed that both YouTube and e-modules were equally effective in improving students' understanding of statistics. However, 84% of students who used YouTube showed a significant increase in understanding, while only 68% showed an increase after using the e-module. The average increase in scores with YouTube was 13.81 points, higher than 4.77 points on the e-module. The paired sample t-test indicated that YouTube was significantly more effective than the e-module, with a p-value < 0.05. YouTube’s advantages mainly lie in its visual and interactive features that help facilitate the understanding of abstract concepts in statistics. This study recommends integrating YouTube and e-modules to optimize statistics learning outcomes, especially in the social sciences.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the self-confidence and creativity of Grade VIII students of SMP Negeri 33 Makassar and also to evaluate the effectiveness of implementing the STEAM approach based on Project Based Learning at SMP Negeri 33 Makassar. The research sample consisted of two classes which were then divided into a control class and an experimental class. The experimental class was given treatment in the form of applying the STEAM approach based on project-based Learning. The main instrument in this study was the researcher. The supporting instruments used were student response questionnaires, student self-confidence questionnaires, student activity observation sheets, and student creativity observation sheets. Then the data obtained is processed and interpreted. The results showed that: (1) The self-confidence of students who were taught using the STEAM approach based on Project Based Learning was better than those taught with conventional learning models. (2) the creativity of students taught with the STEAM approach based on Project Based Learning is better than those taught with conventional learning models. (3) The application of project-based Learning-based STEAM Approach is effectively applied in learning mathematics material in class VIII SMP Negeri 33 Makassar.

Abstract

The results of the PISA 2022 assessment, along with preliminary studies conducted in West Sulawesi, indicate that students' proficiency in mathematics remains significantly below expectations. One of the factors contributing to students' limited proficiency in mathematics is associated with the pedagogical competence of their instructors. This study employs a quantitative research design utilizing a survey instrument to describe the level of pedagogical competence of mathematics teachers in secondary schools in West Sulawesi, based on student perceptions, and to identify the specific competencies that require development. The population of this study was all secondary school students in West Sulawesi, with a sample size of 1.051 senior secondary school students and 988 junior secondary school students. The analysis employed was descriptive statistical analysis using a stratified random sampling method. The findings indicate that a considerable proportion of mathematics teachers at both the junior high school and senior high school levels exhibit inadequate proficiency. The pedagogical competence of teachers is still lacking in several key areas, which require further development: (1) The skill to comprehend student characteristics; (2) The capability to select materials that are aligned with the learning experience and learning objectives; (3) The ability to select media and learning resources that are suitable for student needs; (4) The skill to make transactional decisions in response to situations that arise in the classroom; (5) The ability to integrate and utilize technology in learning; (6) The skill to communicate effectively; and (7) The skill to evaluate learning. The results of this study can be used as a guideline for the government, experts, and policymakers to overcome the problem of teacher competency development. In addition, the results can be used to design and determine the direction of policies and programs for developing mathematics teacher pedagogical competencies in West Sulawesi.

Abstract

The development of digital technology has positively impacted the world of education, especially in creating more interactive and innovative learning media. The integration of Augmented Reality (AR) in learning is one of the innovations that can provide new learning experiences for students by presenting visualizations of abstract concepts in real life. This research aims to develop AR-based mathematics learning media to facilitate students' mathematical computational thinking skills. The research method used is Research and Development (R&D) with the ADDIE development model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation). The research subjects involved 16 Insan Cendekia Sheikh Yusuf Gowa High School students. The research instruments used included product validation sheets, learner and teacher response questionnaires, and mathematical computational thinking ability tests. Analysis of research data focused on analyzing the validity, practicality, and effectiveness of Augmented Reality-based mathematics learning media. The results showed that the Augmented Reality-based mathematics learning media developed had met the criteria of validity, practicality, and effectiveness.

Abstract

Research on the development of learning design, using the context of Jembatan Musi 6, aims to design and develop HLT in this context. The research employs qualitative research methods, specifically the validation study design type, to validate the learning design. The research subjects consisted of 6 people in the pilot stage and 21 people in the teaching experiment stage at the middle school (MTs) Raudhatul Ulum. The development of HLT used a type of research design known as a validation study, a method appropriate for answering research questions and assisting in the development of research design, which can begin with initial design, design experiment, and retrospective analysis. Therefore, these three learning models can be applied to the topic of arithmetic sequences. This research was conducted using interviews, student questionnaires, and student activity sheets to explain the initial activities that started from a real-life context, namely the Musi 6 Bridge, which leads to the basic concept of arithmetic sequences, particularly determining the n-th term formula. Subsequently, the data collection results were analyzed and explained qualitatively based on data analysis, which showed that students could achieve an understanding of the n-th term formula concept using an alternative learning pathway. In the prediction of local theory, the general thinking of the students is quite accurate. The development of this learning design can be used by teachers in the classroom. Abstrak: Penelitian mengenai pengembangan desain pembelajaran menggunakan konteks Jembatan Musi 6 pada materi barisan aritmetika menggunakan pendekatan PMRI yang bertujuan untuk merancang dan mengembangkan HLT dalam pengembangan desain ini menggunakan metode penelitian kualitatif desain riset tipe validasi studi. Adapun Subjek penelitian berjumlah 6 orang pada tahap pilot dan berjumlah 21 orang pada tahap teaching eksperimen di MTs Raudhatul Ulum. Pengembangan HLT menggunakan desain reaserch tife validation study cara tepat yang bisa digunakan untuk menjawab pertanyaan penelitian dan membantu pengembangan desain penelitian yang dapat dimulai dengan desain awal, eksperimen desain, dan analisis restrospektif. Maka, tiga model pembelajaran tersebut yang dapat diterapkan pada materi barisan aritmetika. Penelitian ini dilakukan menggunakan proses wawancara, angket siswa, dan lembaran akvitas siswa untuk menjelaskan dari sebuah aktivitas awal yang bermula dari konteks nyata yang ada dikehidupan sehari-hari yaitu Jembatan Musi 6 menjadi konsep dasar barisan aritmetika yaitu menentukan rumus suku ke-n. Selanjutnya hasil dari pengumpulan data tersebut dianalisis dan dideskripsikan secara kualitatif berdasarkan analisis data mendapatkan hasil bawasannya siswa dapat menemukan sebuah pemahaman konsep rumus suku ke-n yang menggunakan alur pembelajaran yang alternatif. Dalam prediksi teori lokal pada cara berpikir siswa secara umum sudah signifikan akurat. Pengembangan desain pembelajaran ini bisa digunakan guru di kelas.

Abstract

This research aims to provide a clear mapping of errors frequently made by students in solving Systems of Linear Equations in Two Variables (SPLDV) problems, to examine students critical thinking skills using Newman's criteria, and to identify mathematical errors committed by eighth-grade students at the private Methodist El Shadday Junior High School in Perbaungan. This research uses descriptive qualitative research methods. The study involved a sample of five students who were administered a test instrument consisting of open-ended questions. The analysis results indicate that the average percentage of students’ success in demonstrating critical thinking skills in solving problems is 42.109%, while the average error rate is 57.891%. These findings reveal that students' error rate in answering questions is higher than their success rate in answering questions. This suggests that students' problem-solving and critical thinking abilities remain relatively low. These results align with the research objective, which is to examine the extent to which students can think critically when solving problems, as measured by indicators of critical thinking skills. In light of these results, it is recommended that innovative instructional approaches such as problem-based learning, contextual learning, and interactive methods involving the use of technology be implemented to enhance students’ understanding and foster the development of their critical thinking skills. Abstrak: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk memberikan pemetaan yang jelas mengenai kesalahan- kesalahan yang sering dilakukan oleh siswa dalam menyelesaikan soal Sistem Persamaan Linear Dua Variabel (SPLDV), mengetahui kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa dengan menggunakan kriteria Newman dan mengecek kesalahan matematis siswa kelas VIII Sekolah Menengah Pertama swasta Methodist El Shadday Perbaungan. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif. Pada penelitian ini diambil sampel sebanyak 5 orang siswa yang kemudian diberikan instrumen tes untuk diselesaikan. Instrumen yang digunakan pada penelitian ini adalah berupa tes yang berisi soal-soal uraian. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa rata- rata persentase keberhasilan kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa dalam menyelesaikan soal mencapai 42,109% sementara rata-rata persentase  kesalahan  siswa sebesar  57,891%. Temuan ini menunjukkan bahwa tingkat kesalahan siswa menjawab soal lebih tinggi dibandingkan tingkat keberhasilan. Hal ini mengindikasikan bahwa kemampuan pemecahan masalah dan kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa masih tergolong rendah. Hasil ini selaras dengan tujuan penelitian, yaitu menganalisis sejauh mana siswa mampu berpikir kritis dalam menyelesaikan soal berdasarkan indikator kemampuan berpikir kritis dan Newman. Berdasarkan temuan tersebut, perlunya penggunaan pendekatan pembelajaran yang inovatif seperti pembelajaran berbasis masalah atau kontekstual serta pembelajaran interaktif dan menarik seperti menggunakan teknologi yang diharapkan dapat membantu siswa agar lebih memahami dan meningkatkan kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa.

Abstract

Problem-solving skills are abilities that students must master by prioritizing the steps involved in the problem-solving process. However, there are still many Junior High School (SMP) students in grade VII who have difficulties in solving mathematical problems, especially on the topic of geometry. This study aims to determine whether the PMRI approach has an impact on students' problem-solving abilities in geometry materials. The population of this study is all grade VII students, with a total of 134 students. The sample selection was conducted using Simple Random Sampling in grades VII-3 and VII-4 of SMP Negeri 1 Sipirok. The research method used was Quasi quasi-experimental design using a data collection technique through a test (pretest-posttest) consisting of 3 geometry topic essay questions. The data analysis techniques used were descriptive analysis and inferential analysis. Inferential analysis used a hypothesis test or the Independent Samples t-test. After conducting the research, it was found that the average score of students in the control class increased by 18,375 while the experimental class increased by 38,875, meaning that the problem-solving ability of students in the experimental class with the PMRI approach was 11.06 times higher than the control class. T-test results using IBM SPSS Statistics 30, a = 5% or 0.05, showed values sig < a, that is 0.000 < 0.005 which means that there is an influence of PMRI's approach on students' problem-solving abilities in geometry topics. Abstrak: Kemampuan pemecahan masalah merupakan kemampuan yang harus dikuasai siswa dengan mengedepankan langkah-langkah pemecahan masalah. Akan tetapi masih banyak Siswa Menengah Pertama (SMP) kelas VII yang mengalami kesulitan dalam memecahkan masalah matematika, khususnya pada topik geometri. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui apakah pendekatan PMRI berpengaruh terhadap kemampuan pemecahan masalah siswa pada materi geometri. Populasi penelitian ini adalah seluruh siswa kelas VII dengan total 134 siswa. Pemilihan sampel menggunakan simple random sampling yaitu di kelas VII-3 dan VII-4 SMP Negeri 1 Sipirok. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah quasi experimental design dengan menggunakan teknik pengumpulan data melalui tes (pretest-posttest) yang terdiri dari 3 soal essai topik geometri. Teknik analisis data yang digunakan adalah analisis deskriptif dan analisis inferensial. Analisis inferensial menggunakan uji hipotesis atau uji-t independent samples test. Setelah dilakukan penelitian, didapat nilai rata-rata siswa kelas kontrol meningkat sebesar 18.375 sedangkan kelas eksperimen meningkat sebesar 38.875, artinya kemampuan pemecahan masalah siswa kelas eksperimen dengan pendekatan PMRI lebih tinggi 11.06 dibandingkan dengan kelas kontrol. Hasil uji-t dengan mengunakan IBM SPSS Statistics 30, a = 5%, atau 0.05 menunjukkan nilai sig < a, yaitu 0.000 < 0.005 yang artinya terdapat pengaruh pendekatan PMRI terhadap kemampuan pemecahan masalah siswa pada materi geometri.
