Abstract

This research aimed to probe into the implementation of Daurah Mukatssafah program. As in introductory lens, the mastery of Arabic language competence is the primary basis for students taking study programs at tertiary institutions with Arabic as the language of instruction, both in Arab countries and abroad. Meanwhile, not all students have sufficient basic Arabic skills as an initial state to understand the materials presented in the classroom. As a solution, several tertiary institutions provide language preparation programs for students, but these must be completed within 1 to 2 years. The intensive learning model carried out for three months at the As-Sunnah Islamic College as a pilot program is thought to be able to replace the language preparation program with equally effective results. This research used a qualitative naturalistic approach where the research was carried out naturally following the program implemented in the field without manipulating the existing variables. Furthermore, the data were described and compared objectively with data from existing language preparation programs. Daurah Mukatssafah was carried out in two main activities. First, learning the Arabic book Baina Yadaik starting from volume 1 to 6, intensively in classes guided by several lecturers in each class. Second, language mastery used a language immersion model outside the classroom. The results found a significant increase in students' Arabic proficiency, equivalent to 1-year learning outcomes in the Language Preparation Class.

Abstract

This study aimed to develop interactive e-book-based teaching materials for Madrasah Aliyah students in class X to support independent learning and to assess the levels of validity and practicability of their use. The growth of students' learning is positively impacted by the creation of teaching materials that are appropriate for their circumstances and ages, especially those that encourage independent learning. Field evidence indicates that students must build their knowledge outside the classroom to learn effectively, as suggested by the constructivist theory. This research employed the research and development method with the ADDIE (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation) model. The data were collected through questionnaires and observations and then analyzed using descriptive statistical techniques. The product of this research was an interactive e-book assisted by a Heyzine Flipbook with al-tahiyyat wa al-ta’aruf materials that could be accessed online via smartphones, tablets, and laptops. Based on the validation conducted by media experts, material specialists, and Arabic linguists, the validity of this product was rated as legitimate and worth testing with a feasibility score of 4.42, which was good, and an average eligibility percentage of 88%. Responses from 40 students and five Arabic teachers, who had a very positive response rate of 91%, were used to determine the practical value of use. Based on these results, the interactive e-book-based teaching materials assisted by the Heyzine Flipbook al-tahiyyat wa al-ta’aruf materials for Madrasah Aliyah students were valid and practical for use.

Abstract

This research aimed to determine the effectiveness of peer teaching with card media in Arabic syntax learning. This goal was based on the problem of students' low abilities to understand Arabic syntax. These students’ low abilities were caused by the application of inappropriate learning methods and media while learning Arabic syntax. Moreover, this research also determined students' responses on the topic above. This research used a quasi-experimental design method with a non-equivalent control group design model. This research incorporated a sample of 58 students. Furthermore, the researchers collected the data using tests and questionnaires (with the Likert scale) and analyzed them with descriptive statistics and N-Gain test. The results showed that the average score of the N-Gain in the experimental group was 56.18; while the one in the control group was 17.87. The former was higher than the latter regarding students’ abilities in Arabic syntax. This indicated that peer teaching using card media was effective in Arabic syntax learning (especially in the moderate category). The questionnaire results also demonstrated that the average of students' responses to the application of the method above and media was 78.95%; hence it belonged to a positive category. This signifies that the method and media are of essential components in learning processes.

Abstract

This research aimed to analyze Arabic language learning strategies based on curriculum integration from the perspective of Bloom's Taxonomy at Diniyah Puteri Islamic Boarding School. A qualitative approach with a case study method was used in this study. Data collection techniques included interviews with Arabic teachers, the headmaster, and the head of the Diniyyah Arabic Center (DAC). Other data collection techniques subsumed observation of learning activities and documentation from curriculum and lesson plans. The authors used Miles and Hubberman’s analysis theory to analyze the data. The substantive findings of this study showed that Arabic learning strategies based on integration of the Ministry of Religion's curriculum and the Diniyyah Arabic Center (DAC) from the perspective of Bloom's Taxonomy fell into the following: (a) the stages of remembering consisted of remembering pearls in the language environment, memorizing daily vocabulary, and memorizing conversations; (b) the stages of understanding consisted of listening to Arabic announcement strategies and using reading and translating methods; (c) the implementation stage consisted of Nasyaat Al-Akbaar, comparative studies, direct strategies, listening and speaking strategies; and (d) the creating stage consisted of Arabic camps, composing songs, and weekly speeches. The findings of this study infer that curriculum integration provides opportunities for students to improve Arabic language skills with varied strategies.

Abstract

This study aimed to find out the implementation of the utawi iki-iku (Pegon symbols) formula method in basic syntax (nahw) courses in Islamic higher education. This study used a qualitative approach with a type of phenomenological study to understand and explain the phenomenon of the research subjects. The techniques of data collection in this study used in-depth interviews with 4 respondents with certain criteria as well as tests on students’ learning outcomes in terms of giving i’rab and reading Yellow Books through three stages of tests. The results of this study showed that the implementation of the Pegon symbol formula method in basic nahw courses at Islamic higher education began by the planning stage that all students re-perceived the lessons they had learned; the process stage in nahw learning used the classical Arabic Pegon method by reading the contents of the book; and the post-teaching stage referred to the evaluation in away that the students read one by one in front of the class to find out their abilities to use Arabic Pegon. Then, the impact of the Pegon symbol formula method in basic nahw courses was shown by the increase in students’ abilities to give i’rab and read Yellow Books revealed from the test and depth interviews with the students.

Abstract

This research aims to conduct a structural analysis of the novel Dima'un Fi Qasr al-Chamra by Ehab Farouk Hosny. This novel raises an important cultural story in the history of Islamic civilization in Spain. It tells the story of a beautiful woman from Egypt, named Sarah, an archaeologist who researches Islamic heritage buildings both in her own country and in other countries. It tells the history of Andalusia, now Spain, starting from discovering a map buried in one of the rooms in Sultan Hasan's mosque in Cairo. The map was a secret document of the Alhambra belonging to the great scientist Al Zahrawi (Albucasis), containing a chemical composition to treat cancer. This paper has two main objectives: the practical and theoretical objectives. The realistic goal is to reveal the intrinsic and coherent elements and the interrelationship between one part and another. Meanwhile, the academic goal is to discover a secret document belonging to el-Zahrawi, a scientist, containing a cancer drug's composition. To remind readers that the discovery of personal papers, in any case, should not be announced in public because it can be dangerous and will cause various problems in obtaining certain benefits and goals. The theory used is a structural theory, which focuses on literary works viewed as a unified and integrated structure. The technical method is the structural method, which works structurally by revealing and describing the intrinsic elements in "Dima'un Fi Qashril-Chamra" by Ehab Farouk Hosny and connecting the mutual relationships between the parts. This technique uses formalism representing literary works such as character, plot, motif, theme, and language. The method used in this research is library research. Library study is a technique of collecting data and information by examining written sources such as scientific journals, reference books, literature, etc., related to this discussion. Based on its nature, this research is classified as qualitative research using descriptive analysis techniques.

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze and explicate the influence of the advent of Latin script (Roman script) on the progress of Malay-Arabic script culture, language, and religion in the archipelago. The arrival of Islam had a major influence on the language, religion, and culture of the archipelago through a script, known as the Malay Arabic script. In the archipelagic history, the reconstruction of local culture through an Arabic-Malay script has affected the growth and progress of civilization. The use of the Malay-Arabic script around the 13th century in the writing tradition in schools and Islamic boarding schools as a medium made it easier to read the Qur'an, to study Arabic grammar, and to learn various aspects of other scientific fields. After that, the situation changed due to the emergence of the Romance script in the 15th century, which was brought by Europeans to the Malay world or the Archipelago. Based on the type of qualitative research using a historical approach, it showed that there was a contestation of the Arabic-Malay script with the emergence of the Romance script in Indonesia. This could be seen from the following: 1) The position of the Arabic-Malay script, which had been popular in society and was entrenched in formal and normal institutions, had been increasingly lost due to the appearance of the Roman script. 2) It was difficult to find references related to religious, social, cultural, and political sciences written in the Arabic-Malay script. 3) The transition from using the Arabic-Malay script to the Roman script also had a religious mission, namely the eradication of Islamic symbols marked by many generations who did not understand the Arabic-Malay script as a medium to make it easier to read the Qur'an and understand religion. Based on this data, it is demonstrated that the study of Arabic-Malay script in today's society is decreasing, and the longer the majesty of the Arabic-Malay script as the Lingua Franca in archipelago civilization can be forgotten if it is not preserved and implemented in formal and non-formal education in Indonesia.

Abstract

This research aimed to find out: 1) the process of applying the measurement method to learning Arabic grammar in one of the secondary schools in Lombok for the students of class X at Madrasah Aliyah Nida’urrahman Bebie; and 2) the difficulties in applying the qiyasi method to learning Arabic grammar for students in class X at Madrasah Aliyah Nida’urrahman Bebie. As a whole, researchers tried to find the uniqueness of the qiyasi method, while the measurement method was one applied in learning Arabic, especially in learning Arabic grammar in class X at Madrasah Aliyah Nida’urrahman. It is not known whether the method is suitable for all students, considering that this method is more suitable for use at the upper level or university level, whereas students at Madrasa Nida’urrahman come from various educational backgrounds, including beginner-level students. This research employed a descriptive-qualitative method. Data collection techniques included observation, interviews, and documentation. Data analysis techniques included data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results fell into the following: 1) The process of applying the measurement method in learning Arabic grammar in class X Madrasah Aliyah Nida’urrahman Bebie demonstrated some information. The teacher repeated the lesson from the previous week, explained certain grammar, and gave examples. Hence, with these examples, the teacher explained the rules in more detail. After it was deemed sufficient, the teacher asked students to work in questions from the book to find out the extent of their understanding of materials that had been explained. 2) The obstacles in the application of the measurement method in class X Madrasah Aliyah Nida’urrahman Bebie subsumed (a) the obstacles faced by the teacher, namely the different backgrounds of students, and environmental factors; and (b) the obstacles faced by students covering a lack of knowledge, boredom when studying, and sleepiness when studying.

Abstract

This research aimed to continue the previous research by describing Arabic language teachers’ lesson plans at MAN 2, MA Muhammadiyah, and MA Al-Umm in Malang, as these lesson plans were affected by the school environment. This research sought to describe the differences in lesson plans designed and implemented by Arabic teachers at the aforesaid schools. This research deployed a qualitative approach and the case study method with multiple case studies. The data were garnered from interviews and documentation. The research results showed differences in planning methods, bases, and sources of learning among these schools, which were caused by differences in the availability of teachers and systems at each school. The teachers planned to teach the Arabic language in MAN 2 based on KMA 183 using the joint method and group technique, while the Arabic language teacher in MA Muhammadiyah planned lessons based on the same report. The Arabic language teacher at MA Al-Umm planned lessons individually based on her own innovations. Therefore, each school should provide a supportive program to improve the competencies of the Arabic language teachers in planning lessons.
