Abstract

Students with good emotional intelligence can recognize emotions, manage emotions, motivate themselves, recognize other people's emotions, and build good relationships at school. Efforts to increase these skills by school counselor can be facilitated through group counseling with symbolic modeling strategies. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the effectiveness of symbolic modeling techniques in group counseling to increase students' emotional intelligence in vocational schools. A total of 16 students were involved using purposive random sampling techniques. Data was collected using an emotional intelligence scale 37-item. The data analysis technique uses the Wilcoxon test with the GraphPad Prism 8 application. The results show that there is a significant difference in students' emotional intelligence scores after being given treatment. On the other hand, the control group experienced an increase in scores but it was not that significant compared to the experimental group. There were significant differences in scores between the experimental group and the control group. These findings confirm that providing group counseling services using symbolic modeling techniques is effective in increasing students' emotional intelligence in vocational schools. The implications of these findings for professional guidance & counseling services in vocational schools in intervening of group settings on students' emotional intelligence.

Abstract

Student engagement is defined as the active participation of students in the learning process, including affective, cognitive, and behavioral dimensions. High levels of student engagement contribute to positive academic outcomes as high engaged students tend to be more involved and accountable in their learning. In contrast, students with low student engagement often feel dissatisfied with their educational experience and are at high risk of dropping out of school. The dropout phenomenon in Indonesia shows the highest rate among senior secondary/vocational students. This study aims to examine the relationship between student engagement based on gender and grade level, and look at the differences. This study used quantitative methods with a correlational and comparative approach, involving 99 students from SMK N 3 Jepara. The instrument used was the USEI scale, which was adapted and data processing using the SPSS bootstrap method. The results showed that the majority of students' engagement was in the moderate category (41 students), followed by the high (32 students) and low (26 students) categories. No significant relationship was found between student engagement and class, but there was a significant relationship with gender, where female students showed higher level of student engagement, especially in the cognitive engagement aspect.

Abstract

A more thorough discussion of personality's limiting characteristics is required to fully and completely comprehend human personality. Taking into account biological, social, and cultural aspects, modern psychologists have meticulously examined and tested a wide range of human behaviors. They disregard, however, the study of the human soul and how it affects personality, as well as a thorough comprehension of human personality without comprehending the fundamentals of all the tangible and immaterial components that limit personality. According to the Islamic viewpoint, there are three components to personality dynamics: the base desire (Nafs Al-Ammara Bissu), which is the desire that leads to evil; the controlled desire (Nafs Al-Lawwammah), which is the desire that places blame; and the desire that brings about calm and peace (Nafs Al-Mutma'innah), which is the peaceful desire.

Abstract

This study aims to (1) identify and categorize coping strategies used by high school students and (2) analyze the patterns of preference and effectiveness of these strategies based on students' perceptions. This research employs a qualitative approach with an exploratory design. The participants consisted of 647 high school students aged 15–18 years, selected using random sampling from Yogyakarta and Pontianak. The data collection utilized open-ended questionnaires exploring coping strategies for maintaining mental health. Data analysis was conducted using the Miles and Huberman model, including data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. A hybrid coding system (deductive-inductive) was applied, with credibility ensured through methodological triangulation, member checks, and systematic audit trails. Results revealed that the majority of students preferred positive coping strategies, with refreshing and social support as dominant choices. However, a significant proportion of negative coping strategies was identified, highlighting the need for further guidance. Additionally, the low percentage of professional help-seeking (5.1%) suggests potential barriers in accessing or recognizing mental health services. These findings provide valuable insights for developing targeted intervention programs to support adolescent mental health.

Abstract

The function of peer interactions in promoting the mental and emotional well-being of adolescents is examined in this study. The issue discussed is how friendships can either improve psychological health or, in the case of toxic connections, exacerbate mental health issues like anxiety and despair. This study used a literature review approach to examine academic papers on peer interactions and their psychological effects that were published between 2015 and 2024. Research shows that while toxic friendships increase the likelihood of stress and emotional disorders, positive peer connections greatly enhance psychological resilience and emotional regulation. The study's conclusion highlights the value of communities, families, and educational institutions in creating healthy social relationships that support teenagers' mental health.

Abstract

The presence of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in educational practice should improve mobility and learning outcomes and enhance students' learning skills. On the other hand, students see AI as a system that helps them accomplish practical learning tasks. This condition creates conflicts and dilemmas in the use of AI in learning. Studies on AI in education recommend metacognition as an important ability for students to utilize AI well. The research aims to find the formulation of metacognitive competencies needed by students in using AI as content in curriculum guidance. The research method used Systematic Literature Review with PRISMA model. The results of the literature review show that metacognitive studies in education and adolescent development refer to a longitudinal study conducted by Roger Azevedo. The potential, implementation and ethical implications are integrated in the Curriculum guidelines in improving metacognitive skills related to AI use are 1) self-regulation, 2) critical thinking, and 3) decision-making processes.
