Abstract

Chemical literacy consists of understanding chemical properties, theory, chemistry, and the nature of chemical phenomena. Proficiency in chemical literacy is fundamental in obtaining basic chemistry concepts, such as chemical interactions at the microscopic, macroscopic, symbolic, and process levels, and understanding and describing phenomena scientifically. Chemical literacy is critical in the learning process at school; therefore, teaching and learning should focus on chemical literacy. This study aims to determine whether teachers have taught chemical literacy in schools. This research is phenomenological qualitative research. Data collection techniques through natural conditions, primary data sources, in-depth interviews, documentation, and participatory observation techniques. The study participants were 24 chemistry teachers: eight on Papua Island representing eastern Indonesia, eight on Sulawesi Island representing central Indonesia, and eight on Java representing western Indonesia. Data were analyzed using the Bogdan and Biklen model. The results showed that the Teacher had yet to teach chemical literacy, although, in the learning process, several principles of chemical literacy had been implemented

Abstract

Self-regulated learning skills are very important for students to be able to plan, monitor, and evaluate learning independently so that they can achieve optimal academic abilities. Basic mathematical concepts are difficult to understand and require optimal learning readiness. Flipped classroom is a learning model that encourages students' SLR to achieve optimal learning outcomes. This study aimed to analyze the effect of SLR on learning outcomes moderated by flipped classrooms. The research uses a quantitative approach by applying linear regression and moderation regression data analysis techniques. The subjects of this study were 38 people, 7 of whom were male students and 31 female students, with each subject in the age range of 16-18 years, who acted as class D PGSD students, Yogyakarta State University, Class of 2024. The results showed that the effect of SLR on the learning outcomes of PGSD students in introductory mathematics concept lectures was only 1.2%. However, suppose SLR is applied to the practice of flipped classroom learning. In that case, it can moderate the effect of the SLR variable on the learning outcomes of basic mathematics concepts of number concepts by up to 43.3%. This concludes that the SLR of students will significantly affect the existence of learning practices designed with the flipped classroom model. Thus, implementing the flipped classroom substantially moderates the effect of SLR on the learning outcomes of elementary school teacher candidates in introductory mathematics concept lectures. Abstract

Lecturers, as facilitators, must effectively fulfill their role in providing instructional materials that enhance students' understanding of the course content. This study aims to analyze students' needs for teaching materials in Statistical Physics, specifically focusing on the application of quantum statistics to other systems. A quantitative survey method was employed for this research. The participants were 50 Physics education students at Jambi University, all of whom had enrolled in the Statistical Physics course. Data were collected through a questionnaire designed to assess students' preferences for the teaching materials they require. The findings reveal that the majority of instructional resources and materials used by instructors are printed textbooks. Furthermore, 94% of students indicated a preference for digital teaching materials, such as e-modules, to facilitate learning. Based on these results, there is a clear need for the development of e-modules as a practical and mathematical resource to address the challenges students face in comprehending Statistical Physics content.

Abstract

This study evaluates the ability of mathematics lecturers in Indonesian universities to use TPACK (Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge). It uses a Sequential Explanatory research method that integrates quantitative and qualitative approaches. The findings indicate that overall, the TPACK skills of mathematics lecturers in Indonesia are at a very good level (85,6%). The questionnaire data showed that the aspects of gender, length of teaching, and level of education had average scores of 85.2%, 85.5%, and 86.1%, respectively. Students' responses to lecturers' TPACK were also high, with an average questionnaire score of 85.1%. Further analysis showed no significant difference in the TPACK ability of mathematics lecturers based on gender, years of teaching, or level of education. However, partial analysis showed that female lecturers' CK and PK components were superior to male lecturers. This indicates a significant effect of gender partially on lecturers' TPACK. At the same time, the length of teaching and level of education does not have a significant impact either partially or jointly on the TPACK ability of mathematics lecturers in Indonesia. This study provides in-depth insights into the factors that influence the TPACK of mathematics lecturers, with important implications for professional development and improving the quality of learning in the Indonesian higher education context

Abstract

The initial abilities of students in the Integral Calculus course reveal that many have not yet grasped the fundamental concepts of integration. Out of 20 students given integral problems, only 6 students (30%) were able to answer correctly, while 14 students (70%) made errors. These errors in the Calculus course need to be analyzed further to assist lecturers and students in identifying weaknesses in the learning process and address or at least reduce similar mistakes in the future. This study employs a descriptive qualitative approach, with 20 second-semester students from the Mathematics Education program at IAIN Lhokseumawe as the research subjects. The findings indicate that students with very high and high computational thinking skills did not make errors compared to those with moderate, low, and low computational thinking skills. Students with moderate computational thinking skills tended to make errors in processing and answer writing. In contrast, students with low and very low computational thinking skills more frequently encountered transformation, processing, and answer-writing errors. Transformation errors occur when students make mistakes in calculations or during the process skill stage. These errors are often caused by students’ difficulty structuring solution steps, leading to misunderstanding the problems. Most students were also unable to reformulate the problems into forms suitable for the appropriate solution method, resulting in their inability to proceed with the calculations. Based on the error analysis using Newman’s Error Analysis (NEA) method, the most common types identified were transformation, processing, and answer-writing errors.

Abstract

Abstracts The rapid development of technology in the digital era demands the readiness of students to compete and face various problems that arise. This requires critical thinking skills in formulating problems, finding solutions, and determining the resolution path. Critical thinking skills are needed in the 21st century, where information flows rapidly through digital technology. Critical thinking skills are needed to analyze information that benefits individual students. Innovation in the learning process to develop critical thinking skills involves familiarizing students with problem-based mathematical problems to hone critical thinking skills. HOTS questions are questions that stimulate critical thinking skills. This study will show students' critical thinking skills based on their initial abilities. The type of research used is descriptive quantitative. The instruments used are standard HOTS questions. Samples were taken from representatives of high, medium, and low initial ability students. Data analysis is carried out on student answer sheets. The results showed several critical thinking characteristics of students at every level of initial ability. Students with high initial abilities have maximized critical thinking skills based on indicators. Students with early, medium, and low abilities still do not master all indicators of critical thinking skills. Students must be trained by solving problems using HOTS questions to maximize critical thinking skills. HOTS-based problem-solving exercises are carried out regularly in lectures

Abstract

Mental health is a condition where a person usually behaves and has no complaints either physically or mentally, and also the ability of humans to adapt to nature and other humans. However, the phenomenon in the reality of life is that there is much data on emotional disorders, behavioral disorders, depression, anxiety, and ending life by suicide among adolescents. Several factors cause mental health conditions in adolescents to experience disorders, including being influenced by the learning process and social interaction. This study partially and simultaneously analyzes adolescents' mental health regarding the learning process and social interaction. To achieve this goal, the approach used in this study is quantitative correlational for data collection using a questionnaire distributed to 109 adolescents who are still in MTs Ma'arif Balong. This study proves that the learning process and social interaction simultaneously affect adolescent mental health significantly, with an influence of 78.3%. While partially mental health is influenced by 47.2% of the learning process factor, and 59.3% is influenced by social interaction. Thus, parents and educators need to be models in a healthy mental life and create a conducive environment for the development of adolescent mental health.

Abstract

Islamic education for the Chinese Muslim minority in West Sumatra is a process fraught with challenges while offering significant opportunities in a multicultural society. This study aims to explore the supporting and inhibiting factors influencing the implementation of Islamic education in this community and to formulate strategies for optimizing its potential. Utilizing a qualitative approach, the research employed in-depth interviews, direct observation, and literature analysis. The participants consisted of 15 Chinese Muslims (8 males and 7 females), aged between 25 and 60 years, including community leaders, educators, parents, and youth actively involved in Islamic educational settings in Padang and Payakumbuh. The findings reveal that social support from the local community, the presence of inclusive educational institutions, the role of organizations like PITI, and family economic stability are key supporting elements. However, the community faces significant challenges, including social discrimination, lack of support from formal institutions, difficulties in cultural integration, and limited awareness of the importance of religious education. This study recommends a collaborative approach between the government, educational institutions, and society to create a more inclusive educational ecosystem. Such efforts are expected to strengthen the Islamic identity of Chinese Muslims and encourage their active participation in a pluralistic society.
