Abstract

The low understanding of mathematical concepts and students' learning interest remain major challenges in mathematics education at the Islamic Junior High School (MTs) level. This study aimed to analyze the effect of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model on students' understanding of mathematical concepts and learning interest. This research employed a quasi-experimental design with a static group comparison: Randomized Control-Group Only Design. The population comprised 37 eighth-grade students distributed across two classes. A total sampling technique was utilized due to the limited population size. The experimental and control classes were determined through a lottery method, following tests for normality, homogeneity, and equality of means based on daily test scores. Data were collected using an essay test and a questionnaire, and subsequently analyzed using a t-test. The findings revealed that the average scores for concept understanding and learning interest in the experimental class were 68.67 and 78.20, respectively. Meanwhile, the control class achieved average scores of 54.59 and 73.36, respectively. The t-test for concept understanding yielded , and the learning interest questionnaire yielded . These results indicate that Problem Based Learning has a significant effect on students' understanding of mathematical concepts and learning interest.

Abstract

This research was motivated by the low ability of first-grade students at SD Negeri 040454 Peceren in recognizing letters as the basic foundation for reading and writing. Based on the results of initial observations conducted by the researcher with the class teacher, out of 26 students there were 11 students (42.3%) who had not recognized letters well, 5 students (19.2%) who still had difficulties in reading, and only 10 students (38.5%) who were able to read properly. The learning process was still dominated by the lecture method and written assignments without the use of interesting learning media. This condition caused students to be less active, easily bored, and less focused during the learning process. In fact, first-grade elementary school students are still in the early development stage that requires fun, concrete, and activity-based learning. Therefore, learning media that can increase students' interest and learning outcomes are needed. One of the learning media used in this research is song media because songs have rhythm and repetition that can help students remember letters more easily. The purpose of this research was to determine whether there is an effect of using song media on students' learning outcomes in recognizing letters for first-grade students at SD Negeri 040454 Peceren in the 2025/2026 academic year. This research used a quantitative approach with a One Group Pretest–Posttest design. The research was conducted in the first semester of the 2025/2026 academic year. The population as well as the sample in this study consisted of all first-grade students at SD Negeri 040454 Peceren totaling 26 students. Therefore, the sampling technique used was saturated sampling. Data collection techniques were carried out through observation and learning outcome tests. The tests were given twice, namely before treatment (pretest) and after treatment (posttest). The research instruments were tested for validity and reliability to ensure their feasibility. The data obtained were then analyzed using the Shapiro–Wilk normality test and the Paired Sample T-Test with the help of the SPSS program. The results of the research showed an improvement in students' learning outcomes after using song media. The average pretest score was 68.34 and increased to 87.88 in the posttest. The results of the normality test showed that the data were normally distributed. Furthermore, the results of the Paired Sample T-Test showed a significance value (Sig. 2-tailed) of 0.01 < 0.05. This indicates that there is a significant difference between the pretest and posttest scores. Therefore, the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted and the null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected. Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that the use of song media has a significant effect on students' learning outcomes in recognizing letters in first-grade students at SD Negeri 040454 Peceren in the 2025/2026 academic year. Song media can be used as an alternative learning method that is more interesting and helps students recognize letters better.

Abstract

Education policy is a crucial instrument in improving the quality of human resources and supporting national development. However, education policy cannot be separated from the influence of various external factors, including social, political, and economic contexts. This study aims to analyze education policy within these contexts and examine its relationship with evolving external dynamics. The method used is a descriptive qualitative approach with literature study as the primary data source. The results indicate that social factors influence education policy through societal values, culture, and educational needs. Political factors play a role in determining policy direction based on the ideology, interests, and programs of the ruling government. Meanwhile, economic factors are closely related to a country's ability to provide funding, infrastructure, and teacher welfare. In addition, external dynamics such as globalization, technological advancement, and changes in labor market demands require education policies to be adaptive and responsive. Therefore, comprehensive policy analysis is essential to ensure that education policies are relevant, effective, and capable of addressing contemporary challenges.

Abstract

This study aims to explore English teaching strategies and the obstacles faced by teachers in rural secondary schools in Aceh Singkil Regency. The study uses a qualitative approach with a multiple case study design, involving three English teachers from three different schools as participants. Data were collected through classroom observations and in-depth interviews, then analyzed thematically. The results showed that teachers applied flexible and adaptive teaching strategies, combining teacher-centered and student-centered approaches, using various learning models such as Discovery Learning, Direct Instruction, and Cooperative Learning, as well as varied learning methods, techniques, and media. This approach helped teachers tailor learning to students' abilities and needs, as well as limited classroom conditions. However, there were several obstacles that affected the effectiveness of learning, including limited facilities, minimal learning resources, challenges in developing teacher competencies, and low student motivation and participation. These obstacles underscore the importance of institutional and government support to improve infrastructure, provide learning resources, and enhance professional training for teachers. This study makes an important contribution to understanding English language teaching practices in rural contexts and shows how teachers can adapt in limited conditions. The results of this study can also serve as a reference for educators, researchers, and policymakers in designing more effective learning strategies in rural schools.
