Abstract

Listening instruction is one of the language skills that plays an important role in improving students' communication abilities. However, in practice, this skill often receives less attention and is still taught using conventional approaches. This article aims to describe the importance of innovation in instructional media and teaching methods to enhance the effectiveness of listening instruction. This study employs a descriptive qualitative method with a literature review approach through the analysis of various theories, literature sources, and research findings related to listening instruction. The results indicate that the use of innovative media, such as audio, video, and educational technology, can create a more engaging and interactive learning environment. In addition, the implementation of creative methods, such as problem-solving, discussions, brainstorming, and participatory activities, can increase student involvement and encourage their ability to critically comprehend information.By integrating diverse instructional media and teaching methods, the listening process becomes not merely a passive activity but an active learning experience that engages cognitive, affective, and psychomotor aspects more comprehensively. This instructional innovation has been proven to improve the effectiveness of listening instruction while also supporting the development of other language skills.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of the problem-based learning model on students’ learning outcomes in mathematics regarding mixed fractions in Grade 5 at SDN 040456 Berastagi. The background of this study is based on low learning outcomes, particularly regarding mixed fractions, caused by a teaching process that remains teacher-centered. This is a quantitative study using a quasi-experimental method with a pretest-posttest control group design. The sample consisted of all 45 fifth-grade students. The sampling technique used was saturation sampling because the sample was not selected randomly. The study was conducted in the experimental class VA and the control class VB, which together had only 45 students taught using the problem-based learning model. The research results show that the average pre-test score for Class VA students was 59.38; after the intervention, the average post-test score increased to 83.54. The research results also show that the average pre-test score for Class VB students was 55.71; after the intervention, the average post-test score increased to 71.67. Furthermore, the results of the normality test showed that the significance values for both the pre-test and post-test were > 0.05, and the results of the Paired Sample T-test indicated a significance value of 0.000 < 0.05, meaning there was a significant difference between the pre-test and post-test scores in both the experimental and control classes. Thus, this study concludes that the implementation of the problem-based learning model has a positive and significant effect on students’ mathematics learning outcomes regarding mixed fractions.

Abstract

The decision to promote students to a higher grade in elementary school, especially for students who have not yet mastered reading, writing, and arithmetic, lies at the intersection of pedagogical principles and external pressures. Limited facilities also influence student learning outcomes, particularly in mastering basic skills such as reading, writing, and arithmetic. This research method uses qualitative research, a type of research that focuses on the human aspect, where individuals are considered central to social events. Parental pressure influences the dynamics of promotion decisions, but schools continue to strive to maintain professionalism and academic standards for the benefit of students' ongoing learning development.

Abstract

Technological advancements and the globalization of urban society in Kembangan Subdistrict have given rise to spiritual challenges, such as a decline in the quality of religious faith and the proliferation of erroneous religious information. This community service initiative is essential to strengthen the congregation`s foundation of faith through structured religious guidance that adapts to the changing times. The method employed in this initiative is a qualitative approach with descriptive analysis through direct intervention, utilizing interactive lectures, participatory observation, and interviews to measure the program`s success. The results indicate that the implementation of a religious education program through a digital da`wah paradigm, which integrates PowerPoint (PPT) visual media and live streaming, successfully enhanced the practical theological understanding of the congregation. Furthermore, the program succeeded in fostering a religious atmosphere within the congregation, strengthening Islamic brotherhood, and eroding superstitious traditions through the internalization of the value of religious moderation. In conclusion, collaboration between innovation in digital da`wah methodology and the institutional management maturity of the Office of Religious Affairs (KUA) is crucial in culvating a congregation characterized by high spiritual resilince, critical thinking, and noble character amidst the currents of modernity`s disruption.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of plyometric training in improving the speed of U-13 players at JTS Soccer School (SSB JTS) in Jambi City. Speed is one of the most important physical components in soccer because it supports acceleration, ball pursuit, and competitive performance during matches. This research employed a quantitative method with an experimental approach using a One Group Pretest-Posttest Design. The population consisted of 30 U-13 players of SSB JTS Jambi City, all of whom were selected as research samples using the total sampling technique. The instrument used was a 30-meter sprint test to measure players' speed performance. The plyometric training program was conducted for four weeks with a frequency of three training sessions per week. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, the Shapiro-Wilk normality test, Levene's homogeneity test, and a paired sample t-test.The results showed that the average 30-meter sprint time decreased from 5.02 seconds in the pretest to 4.69 seconds in the posttest, resulting in an average improvement of 0.33 seconds. The normality test indicated that the data were normally distributed (Sig. = 0.200 > 0.05), while the homogeneity test showed homogeneous data (Sig. = 0.312 > 0.05). The hypothesis test produced a t-value of 18.75 with a significance value of 0.000 (p < 0.05). Therefore, it can be concluded that plyometric training has a significant and effective effect on improving the speed of U-13 players at SSB JTS Jambi City.

Abstract

This article investigates the intricate dynamics of systemic patriarchy and women’s resistance as portrayed in Dian Purnomo’s novel, Perempuan yang Menangis Kepada Bulan Hitam. Utilizing Sylvia Walby’s structural theory of patriarchy alongside bell hooks’ feminist perspectives on resistance, the study examines how the protagonist navigates the deeply oppressive cultural tradition of kawin tangkap (bride capture) in Sumba. Adopting a qualitative descriptive methodology, the research analyzes textual data to uncover the underlying mechanisms of male domination and female agency. The findings demonstrate that patriarchal control is systematically enforced through the cultural normalization of subjugation, multi-dimensional gender-based violence, and the institutionalization of forced marriage. In response to this profound oppression, the protagonist exhibits a dynamic trajectory of defiance, evolving from immediate verbal and emotional rejection to strategic silence and, ultimately, open physical rebellion and formal legal confrontation. This study concludes that the novel serves not merely as a fictional narrative, but as a critical socioliterary document that exposes tradition-based violence while emphatically championing women’s inherent capacity to challenge and dismantle entrenched patriarchal frameworks.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) implementation in enhancing critical thinking skills and civic disposition of Grade X students in Pancasila. A quasi-experimental method with Nonequivalent Control Group Design was employed, comparing an SEL-based experimental class (X-KR, n=36) with a conventional control class (X-MB, n=34). Data were gathered through critical thinking essay tests, a 30-item Likert-scale civic disposition questionnaire, observation sheets, and documentation. Analysis employed Kolmogorov-Smirnov normality test, Levene homogeneity test, paired sample t-test, independent sample t-test, and N-Gain Score. Findings revealed that: (1) SEL significantly improved critical thinking in the experimental class (t = −3.826; p = 0.001), while the control class showed no significant improvement (t = 0.412; p = 0.683); (2) both classes demonstrated significant civic disposition gains (p = 0.000), yet no significant difference existed between them on post-test (t = 0.174; p = 0.862); (3) the experimental class's critical thinking N-Gain (0.166) substantially exceeded the control class (−0.213). These findings indicate that SEL effectively enhances critical thinking, but has not been proven superior to conventional instruction in improving civic disposition within the limited intervention period.
