Abstract

Pancasila and Civic Education (PPKn) instruction for Grade X students at SMA ITP Surabaya remains dominated by conventional, teacher-centered methods, resulting in low levels of student collaboration. Students tend to be passive, reluctant to work in groups, dismissive of peers' opinions, and less responsible for shared tasks, hindering the internalization of democratic values. This study aimed to describe the implementation of two Cooperative Learning models—Gallery Walk and Teams Games Tournament (TGT)—and analyze their effects on students' collaborative attitudes in PPKn learning. The study employed a qualitative Classroom Action Research (CAR) design based on Djajadi's (2019) model, consisting of planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. The research involved 31 Grade X (Phase E) students (12 male and 19 female) and was conducted over three cycles. Gallery Walk was implemented in Cycle 1, while TGT was applied in Cycles 2 and 3. Data were collected through observations of students' collaborative behavior using a four-point rating scale, product assessments, tournament quizzes, and documentation. Data analysis followed the interactive model of Miles, Huberman, and Saldana (2014). The findings revealed a consistent improvement in students' collaborative attitudes, with the mean score increasing from 80.97 in Cycle 1 to 90.87 in Cycle 2 and 91.32 in Cycle 3. The proportion of students in the "good" and "very good" categories rose from 42% (13 students) to 93.5% (29 students), while learning mastery reached 100% in the final two cycles. The study concludes that Cooperative Learing is an effective instructional strategy for strengthening collaborative attitudes and supporting democratic learning practices.

Abstract

As a medium of mass communication, film serves not only as entertainment but also as a reflection of social values evolving within society. One frequently portrayed value is fraternal solidarity. The film Pertaruhan by Krishto Damar Alam chronicles the struggles of four siblings facing various life conflicts in their effort to fund their father's medical treatment. This study aims to identify and understand the representation of fraternal solidarity in the film Pertaruhan. It employs a descriptive qualitative approach utilizing Roland Barthes' semiotic analysis method. The research data consist of scenes, dialogue, character expressions, and visual signs that embody the meaning of fraternal solidarity. Data collection was conducted through observation and documentation on sixteen scenes selected based on indicators of togetherness, loyalty, empathy, sacrifice, cooperation, and family responsibility. The analysis involved identifying the denotative, connotative, and mythic meanings present in relevant scenes. Roland Barthes' semiotic theory was selected for its ability to reveal layered meanings through denotation, connotation, and myth, thereby elucidating not only visually apparent meanings but also the symbolic significance and ideological values constructed within the film. The concept of solidarity in this study draws upon Emile Durkheim's theory of social solidarity, which views solidarity as a social bond forged through togetherness, responsibility, and attachment among group members. The study concludes that the film Pertaruhan represents fraternal solidarity as a social force constructed through visual and verbal signs carrying denotative, connotative, and mythic meanings, while simultaneously affirming the importance of care, responsibility, and sacrifice in family life. Keywords: Film, Fraternal Solidarity, Family, Roland Barthes Semiotics

Abstract

This research evaluates the effectiveness of magnetic letter blocks as an educational instrument to optimize children's reading skills at Al-Munawwarah Kapelgam Bayang Kindergarten, Pesisir Selatan. The primary focus is to provide a solution to common challenges faced by children, particularly in associating sounds with letter forms and the limited ability to assemble letters into syllables or simple words. To ensure data accuracy, a quasi-experimental method with a non-equivalent control group design was employed. The sample was determined using a cluster random sampling technique, involving 18 children in the experimental group and 20 children in the control group. Data were gathered through observation instruments specifically designed based on early reading indicators, such as alphabet recognition and the ability to link images with text. Following descriptive analysis and hypothesis testing (t-test), the results indicate that the use of magnetic letter blocks significantly exerts a positive influence on children's reading development. The concrete, manipulative, and visually appealing characteristics of this media proved effective in motivating children to engage actively in a joyful learning process. Compared to conventional teaching models, the structured use of this media by teachers provides far more effective literacy stimulation. This confirms that magnetic letter block play is a highly relevant innovation in language learning tools for early childhood education.

Abstract

This study analyzes the factors influencing students' enjoyment and boredom in participating in Ratiban habituation at MTsN 3 Karawang and formulates practical solutions for improving the quality of religious habituation. The study used a qualitative descriptive field research design with an interpretive orientation. Data were collected through observation, semi-structured interviews, and documentation involving the head of madrasah, Islamic education teachers, and students. The data were analyzed through data collection, reduction, display, and conclusion drawing, while validity was strengthened through source and technique triangulation. The findings show that students' enjoyment was shaped by spiritual awareness, motivation, understanding of the meaning of Ratib Al-Haddad, teacher modeling, a religious school climate, and orderly implementation. Boredom emerged from fatigue, limited concentration, monotonous procedures, weak understanding of the text, peer distraction, and long duration. The proposed solutions include strengthening students' motivation and meaning-making, varying the implementation method, increasing teacher guidance and role modeling, and creating a conducive religious environment. Ratiban becomes more effective when it is managed as a meaningful pedagogical and spiritual experience, not merely a routine school obligation.

Abstract

This study examines the influence of social media usage on the reading ability of students from various universities. The increasing intensity of social media use among university students has raised concerns regarding its impact on students’ interest and comprehension in reading academic materials. The purpose of this research is to determine whether social media usage affects students’ reading ability and reading habits. This study employed a quantitative descriptive method using a survey distributed through Google Forms to students from different universities. The data were collected from respondents who actively use social media platforms such as Instagram, TikTok, X, and WhatsApp. The questionnaire focused on the duration of social media usage, reading frequency, reading comprehension, and students’ perceptions of the influence of social media on their reading activities. The results indicate that excessive social media use tends to reduce students’ reading intensity and concentration when reading academic texts. However, social media also provides positive impacts, such as easier access to educational information and digital reading materials. Therefore, the influence of social media on reading ability depends on how students manage and utilize social media in their daily lives.
