Abstract

This study was motivated by the low learning outcomes of fourth-grade students in Natural and Social Sciences (IPAS) learning at SDN 22 Lubuk Begalung, Padang City. The learning process was still teacher-centered, students were less active in classroom activities, collaboration among students had not been optimal, and the use of instructional media was limited, resulting in low student learning outcomes. This study aimed to describe the improvement of students' learning outcomes through the implementation of the Student Teams Achievement Division (STAD) cooperative learning model assisted by Smart Box media in IPAS learning. This research employed Classroom Action Research (CAR) using the Kemmis and McTaggart model consisting of planning, action, observation, and reflection. The study was conducted in two cycles involving 23 fourth-grade students of SDN 22 Lubuk Begalung, Padang City. Data were collected through teacher and student observation sheets, learning achievement tests, and documentation. The data were analyzed qualitatively and quantitatively. The findings revealed that the implementation of the STAD cooperative learning model assisted by Smart Box media improved both the learning process and students' learning outcomes. Improvements were observed in teacher performance, student participation, and learning achievement from Cycle I to Cycle II. Classical learning mastery also reached the predetermined success criteria. Therefore, the STAD cooperative learning model assisted by Smart Box media is effective in improving elementary school students' learning outcomes in IPAS learning.

Abstract

Vocational education (SMK) in the digital era demands the availability of learning resources that are not only informative but also capable of visualizing abstract concepts to reduce cognitive barriers. This conceptual article aims to formulate an instructional framework that integrates digital Flipbook media with the syntax of Project-Based Learning (PjBL) through the ADDIE design model. The main problem analyzed is the phenomenon of high cognitive load among students of the Computer and Network Engineering (TKJ) major when dealing with complex network infrastructure materials. Through a theoretical review, this article offers an "Interactive Learning Blueprint" that positions the Flipbook not merely as a digital module but as a dynamic guide that oversees every step of the students' project. The synthesis results indicate that theoretically, this integration is capable of reducing extraneous load, increasing affective engagement (interest), and optimizing the retention of learning outcomes through structured practical experiences.

Abstract

This research was conducted because the learning outcomes of fourth- grade students at SD Negeri 13 Pasar Remaja, Sawahlunto City, on data presentation are still relatively low. This low learning outcome is indicated by a class average score of 68.36, with a learning completion percentage of only 45.45%. Consequently, some students have not yet achieved the Learning Objective Achievement Criteria (KKTP). This condition is influenced by the teacher-centered learning process, students' lack of active participation in discussions and collaboration, and their inability to construct knowledge independently. Therefore, this study aims to describe the improvement in student learning outcomes through the application of the Project-Based Learning model to data presentation in fourth-grade students at SD Negeri 13 Pasar Remaja, Sawahlunto City. This study is a Classroom Action Research (CAR) with qualitative and quantitative approaches, implemented in two cycles. Each cycle consists of planning, action, observation, and reflection. The research subjects were teachers and 22 fourth-grade students at SD Negeri 13 Pasar Remaja, Sawahlunto City, in the 2025/2026 academic year. Data were obtained through an in-depth learning plan (RPM) assessment, observations of teacher and student activities, and learning outcome tests. Data were analyzed using qualitative and quantitative data analysis techniques. The results showed that the implementation of the Project-Based Learning model improved the quality of the learning process and student learning outcomes. The percentage of student activity increased from 75% in Cycle I to 96.4% in Cycle II, qualifying as very good. Furthermore, the average learning outcome score increased from 68.36 at the initial level to 74.54 in Cycle I, then again to 85 in Cycle II. The learning completion percentage also increased from 45.45% at the initial level to 72.73% in Cycle I and reached 95.45% in Cycle II. Thus, it can be concluded that the implementation of the Project-Based Learning model can improve the quality of the learning process and students' mathematics learning outcomes in data presentation material in fourth grade at SD Negeri 13 Pasar Remaja, Sawahlunto City.

Abstract

This study aimed to examine the effect of the Picture and Picture learning model on the learning outcomes of fourth-grade elementary school students in Natural and Social Sciences (IPAS), particularly on the topic of energy transformation in everyday life. A quantitative approach with a pre-experimental one-group pretest–posttest design was employed. The participants consisted of 20 fourth-grade students selected through total sampling. Data were collected using pretest and posttest achievement tests and analyzed using the Shapiro–Wilk normality test, the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test, and N-Gain analysis. The findings revealed a statistically significant difference between students' pretest and posttest scores (Z = –3.794, p < 0.001), with 18 out of 20 students (90%) demonstrating improved learning outcomes after the implementation of the Picture and Picture learning model. However, the average N-Gain score was 0.0276, indicating a low level of practical effectiveness. These findings suggest that although the Picture and Picture learning model significantly improves students' learning outcomes, the magnitude of improvement remains limited. The low N-Gain score may be attributed to the relatively high initial achievement of several students and the limited duration of the intervention, which was conducted in only one instructional session. Therefore, the implementation of the Picture and Picture learning model should be supported by longer instructional time, more varied visual learning materials, and sustained instructional strategies to maximize its impact on students' IPAS learning outcomes.

Abstract

This study examines how child-friendly Islamic pedagogy cultivates students’ empathy at Madrasah Ibtidaiyah Darul Ulum Banyuanyar, Indonesia. Employing a qualitative single-case study design, data were collected through semi-structured interviews with school leaders, Islamic education teachers, a guidance and counselling teacher, and students, complemented by classroom observations and document analysis. The data were analysed thematically through coding, categorisation, cross-source comparison, and interpretive synthesis. The findings reveal that empathy was cultivated through an integrated educational ecosystem grounded in rahmah, justice, ta‘awun, ukhuwah, positive discipline, student participation, teacher role modelling, dialogical learning, cooperative activities, religious reflection, and social engagement. Islamic narratives, case studies, role play, tadabbur, peer tutoring, restorative conflict resolution, and Friday Sharing enabled students to recognise others’ emotions, adopt different perspectives, and translate concern into prosocial action. The study formulates the Rahmah Model, comprising relational safety, perspective activation, dialogical collaboration, religious meaning-making, caring action, and holistic reinforcement. The model demonstrates that empathy develops not through isolated moral instruction but through sustained interaction among classroom pedagogy, institutional culture, counselling support, family involvement, and community partnership.

Abstract

This This study aimed to examine the effect of the Quantum Learning model based on the TANDUR strategy on the Science and Social Studies (IPAS) learning outcomes of third-grade students at SD IT Jaya Bakti on the topic of the animal life cycle. The study employed a Pre-Experimental method using a One-Group Pretest–Posttest design. Data were collected through pre-tests, post-tests, observation sheets, and questionnaires. The descriptive analysis indicated an increase in the students' mean learning outcomes, from 40.00 on the pre-test to 48.33 on the post-test. However, the results of the Paired Samples t-Test revealed a significance value (Sig. (2-tailed)) of 0.224 (p > 0.05), indicating that the improvement was not statistically significant. Furthermore, the N-Gain analysis produced an average score of 0.0086 (0.86%), which falls into the low category. The absence of a statistically significant effect may have been influenced by the relatively small sample size, which limited the statistical power of the analysis. In addition, during the implementation of the learning activities, two students experienced difficulties maintaining concentration, resulting in lower post-test scores that affected the overall class average. Nevertheless, the findings from the observations and questionnaires suggest that the implementation of the Quantum Learning model based on the TANDUR strategy was effective in creating a more active, interactive, and enjoyable learning environment, while also enhancing students' self-confidence during the learning process. Therefore, this instructional model demonstrates practical potential for improving IPAS learning, particularly when implemented with a larger sample size, a longer intervention period, and more conducive classroom conditions.

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the effect of Project-Based Learning (PBL) on students' learning outcomes while examining its implementation in supporting the development of 21st-century skills. The study employed a quantitative approach using a pre-experimental One Group Pretest-Posttest Design. The participants consisted of 20 fourth-grade students at SD Negeri Rancabogo II, Subang Regency, Indonesia. Data were collected through pretest and posttest instruments consisting of ten essay questions. The data were analyzed descriptively and inferentially using the Shapiro-Wilk normality test and the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test. The results indicated that the mean score increased slightly from 9.45 on the pretest to 9.60 on the posttest. Of the participants, 25% showed improved scores, 55% maintained the same scores, and 20% experienced a slight decline. Although a modest increase in the average score was observed, the N-Gain value of 0.0198 (1.98%) indicated a very low level of effectiveness. Classroom observations further revealed that limited reading ability among several students and suboptimal classroom management influenced the learning outcomes. Therefore, the implementation of Project-Based Learning did not produce a substantial improvement in students' learning outcomes within the context of this study, although it demonstrated potential for fostering more active and student-centered learning. Strengthening students' basic literacy skills, improving classroom management, and implementing PBL more consistently are recommended to enhance instructional effectiveness.

Abstract

Mathematical understanding, particularly in plane geometry, remains a challenge for elementary school students. Therefore, an instructional approach that actively engages students in the learning process is needed. This study aimed to examine the effectiveness of the Numbered Heads Together (NHT) cooperative learning model in improving the mathematical understanding of third-grade elementary school students on plane geometry concepts. The study employed a quantitative approach using a quasi-experimental method with a One-Group Pretest–Posttest design. The participants consisted of 23 third-grade students from SDN Rosela Indah selected through total sampling. Data were collected using a short-answer mathematical understanding test administered before and after the implementation of the NHT model. Data analysis included descriptive statistics, the Shapiro–Wilk normality test, and the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test. The findings revealed that the mean score increased from 52.61 on the pretest to 80.00 on the posttest. All students demonstrated improved performance, with no participant showing a decline in scores. The Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test indicated a statistically significant difference between the pretest and posttest results (Z = –4.220, p < 0.001), confirming the effectiveness of the NHT model in enhancing students' mathematical understanding. These findings suggest that the Numbered Heads Together cooperative learning model is an effective instructional strategy for fostering active participation, collaboration, and conceptual understanding of plane geometry among elementary school students.
