Abstract

This Speaking skills, particularly storytelling, are a crucial aspect of Indonesian language learning; however, fifth-grade students at SDN Cipinang Cempedak 04 still face challenges such as the incorrect application of language rules, difficulties mastering linguistic and non-linguistic elements, and a lack of self-confidence when telling stories in front of the class. This study aims to improve the speaking (storytelling) skills of fifth-grade students through the implementation of the Paired Storytelling learning model. The study employed a classroom action research method based on the Kemmis and McTaggart model, conducted over three cycles, each comprising planning, action implementation, observation, and reflection stages. The research subjects were 28 students from class VB, with the class teacher acting as an observer-participant. Data were collected through observations of learning activities and speaking skill tests using assessment rubrics, then analyzed using descriptive statistics (percentage calculations). The results showed an increase in teacher activity from 83.3% in Cycle I to 96.67% in Cycle III, and student activity from 75% to 93.3%. Student mastery of speaking skills improved from 28.6% (with an average score of 69.2) in Cycle I to 71.4% (average 80.4) in Cycle II, reaching 100% (average 85.3) in Cycle III. It can be concluded that the implementation of the Paired Storytelling model is effective in enhancing the speaking skills of fifth-grade elementary school students.

Abstract

The increasingly intense use of social media, particularly the visual-based Instagram, has led to students being more frequently exposed to ideal appearance standards. This condition can trigger social appearance anxiety, which is anxiety related to how a person perceives their physical appearance in front of others. This study aims to determine the role of self-compassion in reducing levels of social appearance anxiety  in college students who use Instagram in Jakarta. Self-compassion is understood as a person's ability to be warm, accepting, and non-judgmental when faced with imperfections or social pressure. The study used a quantitative approach with a survey method of college students who use Instagram in Jakarta. The instruments used included the Self-compassion and Social Appearance Anxiety scales that have been adapted into Indonesian. Data analysis was conducted using correlation and regression tests to determine the extent to which self compassion contributes to levels of social appearance anxiety. The results showed that self compassion plays a significant role in reducing social appearance anxiety. Students with higher levels of self compassion tend to have lower levels of appearance anxiety, suggesting that self-compassion may be a protective factor against social pressures arising from Instagram use. The results of the Spearman correlation analysis showed a significant negative relationship between social anxiety and self-fear (ρ = −0.401; p < 0.001). This indicates that social appearance anxiety in students who use Instagram in Jakarta is negatively correlated with their level of self-compassion. This finding emphasizes the importance of developing self-compassion as a mental health strategy for students in the social media era. This study also opens up opportunities for the development of intervention programs such as mindfulness training, self-acceptance, or digital literacy aimed at helping students use Instagram more healthily and reduce appearance-related anxiety.

Abstract

Partnerships between schools and the industrial sector are an important strategy in supporting the implementation of vocational education that is relevant to the needs of the workforce. Effectively managed partnerships can improve students’ competencies through various collaborative programs with the industrial sector. This study aims to describe the strategy of school partnerships with the industrial sector in supporting vocational education at SMK Negeri 7 Pekanbaru and to identify the supporting and inhibiting factors in its implementation. This study employed a qualitative approach with a descriptive research design. The research informants consisted of the Vice Principal for Public Relations, the Principal, Heads of Expertise Programs, and representatives from industrial partners. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation, then analyzed using the interactive analysis model of Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña, which includes data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing. The results showed that the school partnership strategy was implemented through three stages: strategy formulation, strategy implementation, and strategy evaluation. Strategy formulation was carried out through identifying industrial needs, internal coordination, and the preparation of Memorandums of Understanding (MoU) and Cooperation Agreements (PKS). Strategy implementation was realized through programs such as Industrial Work Practice (PKL), guest teachers, teacher internships, Teaching Factory (TeFa), seminars, training, and graduate placement. Evaluation was conducted through monitoring, communication with industrial partners, and discussions on program implementation results. The success of the strategy was supported by the commitment of the school community, leadership support, and effective communication with industrial partners, while the obstacles included limited PKL placement capacity, communication constraints, and student discipline issues. A well-planned and sustainable partnership strategy is able to support vocational education at SMK Negeri 7 Pekanbaru.

Abstract

This study examines how interactive learning media, such as lottery games, can be used to increase student engagement in citizenship education. The impetus for the research was the recognition of a pressing concern: a lack of student engagement in the learning process. This issue has been identified as critical and requires immediate attention. The study launched a decisive effort to effectively resolve the issue of low student engagement, which had been identified as a key challenge. Traditional teaching methods that emphasize the teacher, combined with a lack of interactive learning resources, greatly diminish educational effectiveness. Therefore, this study focuses on creating a game-based learning experience that is student-centred, engaging, enjoyable, and meaningful. A qualitative descriptive approach was employed involving secondary school students and citizenship education teachers from Malang Regency. Data collection techniques included observation, interviews, and documentation. The robust Miles and Huberman interactive model was used to analyse the data, seamlessly integrating data reduction, presentation, and conclusion. This model encompasses all three processes. The research findings demonstrate that the Pancasilan lottery game increases student participation in cognitive, affective, and social learning. Students demonstrated increased motivation to learn, improved critical thinking skills, greater confidence in expressing their opinions, and greater involvement in discussions and group work. This method creates a more interactive, collaborative, and engaging learning environment. Its creativity and positive impact make this method increasingly popular among educators and students alike. It is also easy to implement as it does not require complex technology. Thus, it positively contributes to improving the quality of education in line with the principles of the Indonesian state.

Abstract

Critical pedagogy, developed by Paulo Freire, is an educational paradigm that positions learners as active participants in the learning process through dialogue, reflection, and action aimed at fostering critical awareness of social realities. This study aims to describe the concept of Paulo Freire's critical pedagogy and analyze its relevance to the development of learning models in the era of digital transformation. The study employed a library research method using a qualitative descriptive approach. Data were collected from scholarly sources, including books, national and international peer-reviewed journal articles published between 2019 and 2025, and policy documents related to critical pedagogy and twenty-first-century learning models. Data analysis was conducted through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing, with credibility established through source triangulation. The findings indicate that critical pedagogy rejects banking education, which positions students as passive recipients of knowledge. Instead, Freire proposes dialogical education, problem-posing education, and the development of critical consciousness (conscientization) through reflection and action (praxis). These principles align with twenty-first-century learning demands emphasizing critical thinking, creativity, communication, and collaboration (4Cs), and are consistent with contemporary learning models such as Problem Based Learning, Project Based Learning, and Learning Management Systems in technology-based instruction. Implementation has the potential to enhance students' active participation, problem-solving abilities, and social awareness, although challenges include conventional teaching culture, limited teacher competence, dense curricula, and assessment systems focused primarily on academic outcomes.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the role of Human Resource Development (HRD) in improving employee work productivity at the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Subang Regency. Human resource development is a crucial aspect of organizational management because the quality of employees directly influences the effectiveness of organizational performance and public service delivery, particularly in disaster management, which requires high levels of preparedness, competence, and professionalism. This research employed a qualitative descriptive approach. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation involving the Head of General Affairs and Personnel, personnel staff, and field officers at BPBD Subang Regency. The findings reveal that HRD programs at BPBD Subang Regency are implemented through various activities, including disaster management training, technical guidance programs, seminars, continuing education, and collaborations with the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), Provincial BPBD, and higher education institutions. These programs contribute significantly to improving employees’ technical competencies, administrative capabilities, discipline, work motivation, and preparedness in responding to emergency situations. Furthermore, the HRD strategies applied include strengthening technical competencies, conducting community-based disaster awareness programs through the Disaster Resilient Village (Destana) initiative, and implementing job analysis to identify employees’ development needs more effectively. The impact of HRD initiatives is reflected in increased employee productivity, faster disaster response, improved interdepartmental coordination, and enhanced public service quality. However, several challenges remain, including limited training budgets, an imbalance between the number of employees and workload demands, insufficient supporting facilities, and relatively slow administrative processes. Therefore, more innovative, systematic, and sustainable HRD strategies are needed to ensure continuous improvement in employee productivity and organizational performance. This study confirms that human resource development is a strategic factor in enhancing the productivity, competence, and professionalism of BPBD employees in carrying out disaster management responsibilities effectively and efficiently.
