Abstract

Preliminary observations in class X.3 at MAN 1 Makassar City indicated that students' learning motivation in the Akidah Akhlak (Islamic Creed and Ethics) subject was low, characterized by a lack of attention, limited active questioning, and minimal participation in the learning process; furthermore, many students had not yet met the Minimum Mastery Criteria (KKM). This study aimed to (1) examine the implementation of the Hypnoteaching method in the Akidah Akhlak subject in class X.3 at MAN 1 Makassar City, and (2) determine the improvement in students' learning motivation following the implementation of the Hypnoteaching method. The study employed Classroom Action Research (CAR) using both qualitative and quantitative approaches. The results showed that (1) the implementation of the Hypnoteaching method—incorporating the stages of pacing, leading, positive words, modeling, and positive reinforcement—successfully created a more conducive learning environment and enhanced students' attention, active engagement, cooperation, and sense of responsibility during Akidah Akhlak lessons. (2) Students' learning motivation improved across each cycle. The average motivation score rose from 69.43 in the pre-cycle stage to 79.19 in Cycle I and 87.97 in Cycle II. The mastery percentage also increased from 51.35% in the pre-cycle stage to 64.86% in Cycle I, reaching 91.89% in Cycle II, thereby meeting the study's success indicators. The study concludes that the Hypnoteaching method is effective in increasing students' learning motivation in the Akidah Akhlak subject in class X.3 at MAN 1 Makassar City. It is recommended that teachers implement the Hypnoteaching method consistently and adapt it to the students' characteristics to ensure continued improvement in both learning motivation and the quality of instruction.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the types of deixis and thoroughly analyze the intended meaning of utterances within the dialogue of the novel *Skaya and The Big Boss* by Marsella Tina, utilizing George Yule’s pragmatic framework. The research employs a qualitative descriptive approach, specifically a library-based case study method. The data focuses on character-to-character utterances containing elements of personal, spatial (place), and temporal (time) deixis. Data collection utilized library research techniques integrated with listening methods, specifically the basic "read-and-listen" technique and the advanced "note-taking" technique. Subsequently, data analysis applied the distributional method, operationalized through the basic "Immediate Constituent Analysis" (BUL) technique and the advanced "deletion" technique. The results indicate that personal deixis (first, second, and third person) dominates the dialogue throughout the novel. Specifically, the data identified includes 2,540 instances of personal deixis, 475 of spatial deixis, and 192 of temporal deixis. Application of the deletion technique revealed that the omission of deictic words leads to critical ambiguity regarding referential information for the reader. Thus, an understanding of the pragmatic context is essential for grasping the full meaning and underlying intent behind the novel's dialogues.

Abstract

The low level of environmental literacy and critical thinking skills of students in ecosystem learning is a problem that needs attention because students are expected not only to understand ecological concepts but also to analyze environmental problems and determine appropriate solutions. This study aimed to determine the effect of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model based on Socio-Scientific Issues (SSI) on students’ environmental literacy and critical thinking skills in ecosystem topics. This research employed a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental method using a Nonequivalent Control Group Design. The research sample consisted of 60 Grade X students of SMA Negeri 13 Medan, with 30 students in the experimental class and 30 students in the control class. The experimental class was taught using PBL based on SSI, while the control class was taught using direct instruction. Data were collected through multiple-choice tests and questionnaires for environmental literacy and essay tests for critical thinking. Data were analyzed using the Shapiro-Wilk normality test, Levene homogeneity test, and Independent Samples t-test. The results showed that the experimental class obtained a higher post-test mean environmental literacy score of 82.92 than the control class of 71.97, with a significance value of 0.01. For critical thinking, the experimental class obtained a post-test mean of 54.29, compared with 45.93 in the control class, with a significance value of 0.02. Thus, PBL based on SSI had a significant effect on students’ environmental literacy and critical thinking skills in ecosystem learning.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of transformational leadership and academic supervision by school principals on teacher performance at MAN 2 Palu, both partially and simultaneously. The study employed a quantitative approach using a survey method. The research subjects consisted of all 89 teachers at MAN 2 Palu, taken as a total sample. The research instrument was a Likert-scale questionnaire (1–5) that had been tested for validity and reliability. Data were analyzed using multiple linear regression with the assistance of SPSS version 26. The results showed that transformational leadership had a positive and significant effect on teacher performance (t = 2.998; p = 0.000), as did academic supervision (t = 2.103; p = 0.038). Simultaneously, both variables had a significant effect on teacher performance (F = 10.261; p = 0.000), with a coefficient of determination (R²) of 0.174, indicating that 17.4% of the variance in teacher performance was explained by these two variables. In conclusion, transformational leadership and academic supervision are important factors in improving teacher performance, so strengthening both aspects should continue to be pursued by school principals.

Abstract

This study was motivated by students’ low interest in learning mathematics, particularly the topic of integer multiplication, in the fourth grade at SD Negeri 16/VI Muara Siau I. The learning process is still dominated by lecture-based methods and does not yet utilize engaging learning media, resulting in students being less active, less enthusiastic, and experiencing difficulties in understanding the concept of multiplication. This study aims to describe the use of multiplication boards as a learning medium and to determine the increase in students’ interest in learning after using this medium. This study is a Classroom Action Research (CAR) using the Kemmis and McTaggart model, conducted in two cycles, each consisting of the planning, implementation, observation, and reflection stages. The research subjects were 14 fourth-grade students at SD Negeri 16/VI Muara Siau I. Data collection methods included observation, questionnaires, interviews, and documentation. The data were analyzed using descriptive quantitative and qualitative methods. The results of the study indicate that the use of multiplication boards is carried out through the following steps: the teacher prepares the material, communicates the learning objectives, explains the concept of multiplication as repeated addition, demonstrates the use of the multiplication board, provides students with the opportunity to use the material directly, guides students during the learning process, and provides practice exercises and assessments. The use of multiplication boards as a teaching aid was able to improve the quality of the learning process and students’ interest in learning. This was evident from the results of the learning interest questionnaire, which showed an increase from 59% in Cycle I to 80% in Cycle II. Teacher activity also increased from 78% to 93%, while student activity increased from 57% to 81%. Thus, it can be concluded that the use of multiplication boards as a learning medium effectively increases students’ interest in learning mathematics, specifically the multiplication of whole numbers, in Grade 4 at SD Negeri 16/VI Muara Siau I.

Abstract

The phenomenon of self-esteem degradation among adolescents in the digital era has become a crucial issue triggered by self-comparison habits on social media. Based on the Problem Checklist (DCM) assessment at SMP Negeri 4 Alalak, several seventh-grade students were identified as experiencing a crisis of self-confidence and self-worth. This study aims to improve students' self-esteem through group counseling services using the Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) approach with cognitive restructuring techniques integrated with the interactive media Wheel of Self-Esteem. The research method used was Guidance and Counseling Action Research (PTBK) adapting the Kemmis and McTaggart model, implemented in three cycles. The subjects consisted of 7 seventh-grade students purposively selected based on their low self-esteem levels. Data were collected using the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (RSES). The results showed an increase in the average self-esteem score from 20.86 in the pre-test to 28.43 in the post-test. A non-parametric statistical analysis using the Wilcoxon signed-rank test obtained a p-value of 0.022 (p < 0.05), proving the improvement was significant. Qualitatively, students were able to identify negative thoughts and restructure them into coping thoughts. It is concluded that cognitive restructuring based on the Wheel of Self-Esteem is effective in improving students' self-esteem.

Abstract

Vocabulary mastery is a fundamental element for English as a Foreign Language (EFL) learners to comprehend and communicate effectively. Recently, digital microlearning has emerged as a popular strategy to facilitate flexible, accessible, and highly focused language learning. Accordingly, this study aims to investigate the perceived impact of YouTube microlearning videos on students’ vocabulary development and explore their perceptions of its use as an instructional medium. This research employed a mixed-methods design involving students from the English Language Education Program at Hamzanwadi University. Data were gathered through a 25-item Likert-scale questionnaire (N=15) and semi-structured interviews (N=10) via purposive sampling. The quantitative results revealed a high perceived impact on vocabulary development (construct mean = 3.84), with significant improvements in word recognition, meaning comprehension, and pronunciation. However, students’ productive speaking confidence developed slower than their receptive skills. Furthermore, participants held a highly positive perception of the medium (construct mean = 3.73), valuing its flexibility, concise duration, and multimedia design, although infrastructural constraints like internet connectivity occasionally challenged its practical utility. In conclusion, YouTube microlearning is a highly effective supplementary tool for receptive vocabulary acquisition, but it requires active pedagogical integration with productive classroom tasks to fully bridge the gap between passive recognition and active usage.

Abstract

The Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) policy is one of the Indonesian government’s priority programs aimed at improving the nutritional quality of the population and supporting human resource development. In its implementation, this policy has elicited various public responses, ranging from support to criticism regarding the program’s effectiveness, targeting accuracy, food safety, and budget management. This study aims to understand how the government constructs the MBG policy discourse and to assess the relationship between government discourse and public discourse in the formation of policy legitimacy. The study employs a qualitative approach using the Discourse Network Analysis (DNA) method. Data were collected through a documentary analysis of official government documents, statements by officials, mass media reports, opinion pieces, and publications from relevant institutions. The analysis was conducted by identifying the actors, arguments, and positions that emerged in the discourse and mapping the relationships among actors in supporting or criticizing the MBG policy. The results show that the government constructs the MBG discourse as an investment in human development, an effort to combat stunting, and a driver of the local economy. Meanwhile, public discourse has evolved in the form of both support and criticism, focusing on food safety, program effectiveness, budget transparency, and the accuracy of beneficiary targeting. The interaction between these two discourses indicates that the legitimacy of the MBG policy is shaped not only by the government’s narrative but also by the public responses emerging within the discursive space. The government has addressed various criticisms by strengthening oversight, evaluating the program, and improving implementation standards. This study concludes that the sustainability and legitimacy of the MBG policy are significantly influenced by the government’s ability to establish communication that is responsive to the dynamics of public discourse.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the impact of service quality on community satisfaction at the Public Service Mall of Tanjungpinang City. The research uses a descriptive qualitative approach with the main theory of Expectation Disconfirmation Theory by Oliver and the supporting theory of SERVQUAL, which includes the dimensions of tangibles, reliability, responsiveness, assurance, and empathy. Data collection techniques were conducted through interviews, observations, and documentation involving service users, Public Service Mall employees, and the DPMPTSP of Tanjungpinang City as informants. Data analysis used the interactive model of Miles and Huberman through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results indicate that the service quality at the Public Service Mall of Tanjungpinang City has generally met community expectations and contributed to community satisfaction. This is reflected in the dimensions of tangibles, reliability, responsiveness, assurance, and empathy, which are demonstrated through relatively prompt services, courteous staff, adequate facilities, and easy access to public services. However, several challenges remain, including waiting times for certain services and procedures that are perceived as relatively complicated. Therefore, good service quality contributes to enhancing community satisfaction, trust, and comfort in utilizing public services.
