Abstract

Science education (IPA) in elementary schools plays a crucial role in shaping students' conceptual understanding and scientific thinking skills. However, the dominance of conventional teaching methods leads to low student engagement and learning outcomes. This study aims to examine the impact of using instructional modules and interactive learning on improving elementary school students' science learning outcomes. The method used is a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) of relevant articles from various scientific databases published between 2014 and 2024. The findings show that interactive instructional modules in the form of videos, educational games, digital applications, and e-books can enhance student motivation, conceptual understanding, and active participation. Modules with a contextual approach also help students connect science content with their everyday lives. The success of module implementation is highly influenced by the quality of design and teacher competence, especially in applying the Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK) approach and Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) based learning. Challenges include limited infrastructure, teachers' insufficient understanding of differentiation, and gaps between the modules and students' characteristics. Therefore, collaboration between teachers, developers, and policymakers is necessary to support the effective implementation of interactive instructional modules.

Abstract

The results of this study show that the role of the principal's leadership in improving teacher performance at the elementary school level, specifically regarding the principal’s leadership in enhancing teacher performance, involves three main stages: systematic organization, implementation, and evaluation. The principal acts as an educator, manager, administrator, supervisor, leader, creator of a conducive work climate, and entrepreneur. In the organizational stage, the principal develops teacher competency improvement programs through regular meetings, academic supervision, and professional development. The implementation of leadership is reflected in clear task delegation, supervision scheduling, and the management of school administration to support effective teaching and learning processes. Evaluation is carried out periodically through supervision, direct observation, and performance monitoring during regular meetings. As a leader, the principal formulates the school’s vision and mission and creates a positive work environment by improving facilities and fostering harmonious relationships among school members. Additionally, the principal takes on the role of an entrepreneur by developing entrepreneurship programs to enhance school resources. Supporting factors for the principal’s leadership include the support of teachers, staff, and parents, as well as the availability of facilities and training opportunities. On the other hand, the challenges faced include budget constraints, lack of human resources, and rapid policy changes. To overcome these obstacles, the principal adopts adaptive and collaborative leadership strategies. With effective leadership, teacher performance is expected to improve, thereby positively impacting the quality of education at the school. Based on the research findings, it can be concluded that in carrying out the role of leadership to improve teacher performance, the principal has made significant efforts to enhance the quality of education in the school. One such effort includes improving teacher performance and professionalism.

Abstract

Annual planning in educational institutions is a key element in supporting national education development, particularly in aligning school operations with national visions such as the Merdeka Curriculum. This article aims to analyze how annual planning can be optimized to enhance access, quality, and relevance of education in Indonesia. Using a qualitative literature review approach, this study examines the concept of annual planning, implementation challenges, and its relationship with national education indicators based on academic and policy sources from 2015 to 2025. The findings indicate that effective annual planning facilitates programs such as teacher training and project-based learning, but is hindered by resource limitations, regional disparities, and a lack of managerial capacity. Technology, such as the Merdeka Mengajar platform, and participatory approaches can help overcome these barriers. This article recommends managerial training, cross-sector collaboration, and the use of technology to strengthen planning, supported by inclusive government policies. Further research is recommended to empirically evaluate the implementation of annual planning, especially in remote areas. This study offers theoretical insights and practical guidance for education administrators in realizing high-quality national education.

Abstract

This research aims to explore the role of family communication in enhancing students’ learning motivation at the elementary education level, with a focus on MI Nurul Huda Bantargebang. The study was driven by the observable difference in learning motivation among students, which appeared to correlate with the level of parental involvement and communication. Employing a qualitative descriptive approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews with parents, teachers, and students, as well as participatory observation. The research utilized a case study method, examining students from families with varying degrees of involvement in their children’s education. The findings reveal that active family communication significantly contributes to improving students’ motivation to learn. Students who received emotional support, encouragement, and consistent communication from their parents demonstrated higher levels of engagement, confidence, and enthusiasm in academic activities. This result aligns with interpersonal communication theories and motivation theories such as Self-Determination Theory, which emphasize the role of social and emotional support in fostering intrinsic motivation. Quantitative data through pretest-posttest comparison also showed a higher N-Gain score in students with active parental involvement (0.55) compared to those with less involved parents (0.25). These findings affirm the vital role of family communication as a determinant factor in shaping students’ motivation and overall academic success at the elementary level. Hence, the study provides practical insights for educators and parents to foster effective communication strategies at home in order to support children’s learning development.

Abstract

The reading interest of the community, especially school children in Indonesia, is still very low. Education in Indonesia is still far behind when compared to developed countries. One indicator of successful education is students who have broad insight and knowledge. Students who have broad insight are students who like to read. The success of education is not measured by the number of students who get the highest score in a particular subject, but the number of students who like to read or commonly known as literacy.
