Abstract

This study aimed to determine the in vitro antibacterial activities of essential oil from cinnamon bark (Cinnamomum burmannii) on Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) isolated from raw milk. Essential oil from cinnamon bark obtained from the steam distillation method and essential oil was made in a series dilution with a concentration of 1%, 2%, 4%, and 8%. The antibacterial activities were tested using the disk diffusion method. Results showed from five isolates of MRSA, one isolate was sensitive of essential oil with a concentration 2% and all of the isolate was sensitive with a concentration 4% and 8%. The antibacterial activity showed by inhibition zones on  MRSA. The results suggest that the activity of the essential oils of cinnamon bark has an antibacterial effect on MRSA and it is developed as phytopharmaca.

Abstract

Penelitian bertujuan untuk mengetahui total bakteri susu segar kambing Jawa Randu di Kecamatan Siliragung, Kabupaten Banyuwangi. Sampel susu segar diambil dari botol penampung susu menggunakan 10 ml pipet. Pengujian Total Plate Count dilakukan secara duplo. Hasil perhitungan menunjukkan rata-rata cemaran bakteri pada masing-masing peternakan adalah 2.5 x 105 CFU/ml, 2.2 x 105 CFU/ml, 8.3 x 105 CFU/ml dan 8.5 x 105 CFU/ml. Dari hasil tersebut dapat disimpulkan bahwa total bakteri susu segar kambing Jawa Randu di Siliragung, Banyuwangi masih belum sesuai standar.

Abstract

Bittern water is a byproduct of the crystallization process from the manufacture of salt which have high concentrations of magnesium, calcium, potassium and other trace minerals Bittern water is known to treat osteoporosis, postprandial hyperlipidemia, oral infections and increase salivary secretion. The mineral content in bittern water is not only beneficial for humans but also for animal health. Cows are one of the animals that are prone to various health problems such as mineral balance and metabolism disorders in the body, especially during pregnancy and after giving birth. In addition to minerals, vitamin B complex is often used to improve the health quality of cows. However, until now, the use of bittern water and the combination with vitamin B complex for animal treatment is still very rare. The formulation of multivitamin-mineral preparations is quite complex to do so that there are several things that need to be considered in order to obtain a good and quality formula. This review article was created to gather information regarding the benefits of the mineral content contained in bittern water and vitamin B complex as a treatment to treat various health problems for cattle, as well as what important factors should be considered in multivitamin-mineral preparations. Based on literature search, it was found that the combination of bittern water and vitamin B complex has the potential to overcome health problems in cows, where the main minerals in bittern water are proven to improve magnesium status in the blood, increase calcium intake and reduce the incidence of milk fever, increase milk production and components, and improve immune status. While vitamin B complex is widely used as a supplement to increase metabolism, energy status in cows balances rumen pH, maintains microbiota balance in riumen and helps increase milk production. The combination of bittern water and vitamin B complex can synergistically improve mineral status, energy, and immune response, as well as improve disease symptoms. There are also important factors that must be considered in multivitamin-mineral dosage formulations for animals, namely bioavailability, stability, and dosage form.

Abstract

Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui penggunaan probiotik yang mengandung Enterobacter sp., Cellulomonas sp., Actinomyces sp., Bacillus sp., dan Lactobacillus sp. terhadap feed efficiency dan egg mass pada Ayam Petelur. Sebanyak 36 ekor ayam petelur umur 30 minggu yang terdiri dari 3 perlakuan.  Perlakuan terdiri dari P0 (tanpa probiotik), P1 (probiotik 1 ml/liter), P2 (probiotik 2 ml/liter). Hasil penelitian pemberian probiotik berpengaruh (p<0.05) terhadap feed efficiency dan egg mass. Pemberian probiotik sebanyak 2 ml/liter air minum (P2) menunjukkan nilai feed efficiency tertinggi (66.1b ± 3.29). Nilai egg mass tertinggi (51.9b ± 3.36) terdapat pada P1 yaitu perlakuan yang diberi probiotik sebanyak 1 ml/liter air minum. Dapat disimpulkan bahwa pemberian probiotik dengan dosis 1 ml/liter (P1) maupun dosis 2 ml/liter (P2) meningkatkan feed efficiency dan egg mass.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine in vitro inhibition test of lime peel liquid (Citrus aurantifolia, Swingle) against E. coli. The E. coli isolate was cultured on Muller Hinton Agar (MHA) media. Antibacterial test in this study using diffusion method. Negative control (K-) using CMC-Na 0.1%. Positive control (K+) using oxytetracycline antibiotics. The treatments were given lime peel liquid (Citrus aurantifolia, Swingle) with concentrations of 100%, 75%, 50% and 25%, respectively. The study design using Completely Randomized Design (CRD) method, with six treatments and four repetitions. Data were analyzed by Kruskal-Wallis test, Moreover, the Post Hoc Mann-Whitney method. The inhibition zone analysis results were showed that K + had significant differences compared to all treatments K-, 100%, 75%, 50%, and 25%. K- was found to be significantly different from treatments 100%, 75%, 50% and 25%. The results showed that the lime peel liquid has the potential as an antibacterial activity against the growth of E. coli in vitro. Concentration of 25% has shown the presence of inhibitory zones on Mueller Hinton media that have been inoculated with lime peel liquid.

Abstract

Elektroakupunktur merupakan metode modern dalam bidang akupunktur veteriner. Penerapan pada hewan dinilai efektif, ekonomis, tidak menimbulkan efek samping sehingga klien merasa puas. Kepuasan klien berdasarkan persepsi terhadap kualitas pelayanan yaitu kesesuaian antara harapan dan kenyataan yang diterima klien. Tangibel, reliability, responsiveness, assurance, dan empathy merupakan lima unsur dimensi kualitas pelayanan. Jumlah responden yang diperoleh dalam penelitian ini yaitu sebanyak 30 responden menggunakan layanan elektroakupunktur hewan sebanyak dua kali di klinik La Femur. Data yang diperoleh kemudian dianalisis menggunakan indeks kepuasan klien dan importance performance analysis. Hasil analisis data lima dimensi kualitas pelayanan elektroakupunktur hewan klinik La Femur menunjukkan nilai tangibel 0.91%, reliability 0.97%, responsiveness 0.99%, assurance 0.99% dan empathy 0.98%. Lima dimensi pelayanan elektroakupunktur hewan klinik La Femur menunjukkan nilai diatas standart.

Abstract

Study on performance, semen quality and testosterone levels of 2 young bulls (age range 3-5 years) Limousine and Simental and 2 old bulls (age range 6-8 years) types Limousin and Simental have been carried out in the Teaching Farm, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Universitas Airlangga. This study aimed to determine the performance, semen quality and testosterone levels can be used as a guideline whether or not the ejaculate of young and old bulls should be continued into frozen semen. Performance tests were carried out using measuring sticks and weight bands, semen quality tests included macroscopic and microscopic tests, semen concentration using a spectrophotometer and testosterone test using the Sandwich-ELISA method. The mean results of the performance test in young bulls were, while the mean for older bulls were: body weight 700 kg; hump height 136.5 cm; circumferens of chest 213 cm; body length 171 cm and scrotal circumference 35.5 cm. The performance test for old bulls is body weight 840 kg; hump height 143 cm; circumferens of chest 225.5 cm; body length 177.5 cm and scrotal circumference 40.25 cm. Mean macroscopic of semen examination for young bulls, mean volume 8 cc; milky white color; characteristic odor; The degree of acidity was 6.5 and mucous consistency, while for the old bulls the volume was 6.85; milky white color; characteristic odor; 6.5 degrees of acidity and mucous consistency. The mean microscopic examination for young bulls was mass movement ++ / +++; individual movement 80/3; concentration 745.5 million / ml; abnormalities 3% and 92.25% viability, for old bulls: movement mass ++ / +++; individual movement 77.5 / 3; concentration 1291.5 millon / ml; abnormalities 5% and viability 90%. Examination of serum testosterone levels using the Sandwich-ELISA technique was obtained by an average of 1.299 ± 0.1598 ng/ml in young bulls and 1.101 ± 0.1502 ng/ml in older bulls. This study concluded that young bulls and old bulls in the Teaching Farm, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Universitas Airlangga in terms of performance, semen quality and testosterone levels are suitable for processing into high quality frozen semen.

Abstract

The aim of this research was to investigate the effect of probiotics Bacillus subtilis on feed efficiency and egg mass of laying hens. This research was using 36 of 38 weeks-old laying hens Isa Brown strain. The concentration of probiotics B. subtilis was 1 x 109 CFU/ml, there were three kinds of treatments, P0 (without given probiotics B. subtilis), P1 (given 0.1 gram of probiotics B. subtilis per kg of feed), and P2 (given 0.2 gram of probiotic B. subtilis per kg of feed). The results of feed efficiency, the provision of probiotics can provide a significantly different values (p <0.05) between treatments either P0, P1, or P2. Provision probiotics P1 showed the highest value of feed efficiency (81.72 ± 5.28), while the lowest value at P0 was (64.06 ± 3.30). The results showed that there were significantly different in egg mass values (p <0.05) between treatments both P0, P1, and P2. Probiotic P2 shows the highest value (53.30 ± 2.13), while the lowest egg mass value of probiotics is as much as P1 (40.83 ± 4.73). Based on the results of this study it can be concluded that the B. subtilis probiotics both at a dose of 0.1 gram / kg of feed and a dose of 0.2 gram / kg of feed can affect the growth performance of laying hens.

Abstract

Kucing betina berusia ±1 tahun dengan gejala klinis dysuria, konstipasi, pada bagian perineal terdapat kebengkakan dengan konsistensi kenyal disertai luka. Hasil pemeriksaan darah menunjukkan peningkatan monosit sedangkan hasil pemeriksaan ultrasonografi pada kebengkakan menunjukan gambaran anechogenic berisi cairan. Hasil aspirasi teridentifikasi cairan tersebut adalah urin, sehingga kucing tersebut dapat didiagnosis hernia perineal dengan refleksi vesika urinaria. Tahapan operasi meliputi herniorraphy, reposisi vesika urinaria, dan hernioplasti. Terapi sistemik pasca operasi yaitu Amoxicilin 20 mg/kgBB q12h, Asam mefenamat 16 mg/kg BB q12h, dan multivitamin ½ tab q12h selama tujuh hari. Terapi menggunakan topikal menggunakan povidone iodine 10% dan die da yao jing®. Kucing menunjukkan aktifitas normal setelah 7 hari perawatan.

Abstract

Kecepatan angin, pencahayaan, kelembaban dan suhu merupakan faktor lingkungan yang berpengaruh dalam produksi telur. Ayam KUB atau Ayam Kampung Unggulan Balitbangtan adalah strain ayam petelur baru yang mempunyai kemampuan maksimal dalam berproduksi. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk melihat seberapa besar pengaruh kecepatan angin, pencahayaan, kelembaban, dan suhu terhadap produktivitas telur Ayam KUB fase layer pada umur minimal 43 minggu. Data diperoleh dengan desain penelitian cross-sectional melalui pengukuran dan perhitungan terhadap data populasi. Rata-rata faktor lingkungan berupa kecepatan angin, pencahayaan, kelembaban dan suhu adalah secara berurutan yaitu 1.46 m/s, 17.53 lux, 72.11%, dan 27.71oC. Produktivitas telur Ayam KUB Petelur umur 43-46 minggu adalah 66.11%. Seluruh faktor lingkungan secara bersama-sama memberikan pengaruh sebesar 31.4% terhadap produktivitas telur Ayam KUB.
