Abstract

This study aims to determine the contribution of abdominal muscle endurance and leg muscle strength to jump height in volleyball extracurricular in Senior High School (SMA) in Palembang. The method used in this study is a quantitative correlational method, involving 30 male and female volleyball athletes selected through purposive sampling. Abdominal muscle endurance was measured using a one-minute sit-up test, leg muscle strength was measured with a vertical jump and quadriceps dynamometer, while jump height was measured using a jump reach test commonly used in the performance assessment of volleyball athletes. Data were analyzed using multiple linear regression analysis to determine the simultaneous and partial contribution of independent variables to dependent variables. The results showed that abdominal muscle endurance and leg muscle strength together contributed significantly to jump height (R² = 0.687), explaining about 68.7% variation in jump ability. Individually, leg muscle strength contributed more (β = 0.542, p < 0.01) than abdominal muscle endurance (β = 0.312, p < 0.05). These findings suggest that both physical components are important for improving jump performance in high school volleyball athletes; However, the strength of the leg muscles has a more dominant role. It is recommended to coaches and health care teachers in Palembang to integrate an exercise program that emphasizes the development of core endurance and limb explosive energy in order to optimize sports performance in volleyball. This research contributes to understanding the biomechanical factors that affect volleyball-specific skills in adolescent athletes in educational settings.

Abstract

This investigation was undertaken to rigorously analyze the locomotor skill proficiency of students attending SD Negeri 03 Lima Kaum, Tanah Datar. Adopting a quantitative descriptive research design, the study sought to delineate, elucidate, and synthesize the spectrum of conditions and phenomena pertinent to the locomotor abilities exhibited by the student population under investigation. Data acquisition was facilitated through the administration of the locomotor subtest of the Test of Gross Motor Development-Second Edition (TGMD-2), a standardized and validated instrument for assessing fundamental movement skills. A purposive sampling strategy was employed to select a representative cohort of twenty students for participation in the study, ensuring focused data collection relevant to the research objectives. The resultant quantitative data were subsequently subjected to descriptive statistical analysis, specifically percentage distribution, to ascertain the prevalence of varying locomotor skill levels within the sampled population. The findings of this analysis revealed a heterogeneous distribution of locomotor skill classifications among the participants: (1) eight students (40%) demonstrated “Competent” locomotor skills, achieving scores within the 34-37 range; (2) five students (25%) were classified as exhibiting “Moderate” locomotor skills; (3) six students (30%) presented with “Deficient” locomotor skills; and (4) a single student (5%) was categorized as possessing “Inadequate” locomotor skills. The calculated mean locomotor skill level for the entire student sample fell within the “Moderate” classification. This central tendency suggests a potential area for pedagogical focus, indicating the possible necessity for the implementation of targeted interventions designed to enhance the fundamental locomotor competencies of this student population. Further research exploring the underlying factors contributing to these observed skill levels is warranted to inform the development of effective instructional strategies.

Abstract

This investigation aimed to ascertain the baseline proficiency in fundamental football skills among a cohort of student-athletes (n=20) actively participating in the extracurricular football program at SMA Negeri 1 Sarolangun. Adopting a quantitative descriptive research paradigm, the current standing of essential football competencies was evaluated through the implementation of performance-based assessment protocols. These assessments specifically targeted key technical proficiencies, including passing-control, dribbling, shooting accuracy and power, and heading technique. Subsequent descriptive statistical analysis of the collected performance data revealed a "Moderate" mean proficiency level across the domains of passing-control, dribbling and shooting effectiveness. Conversely, the assessment of heading proficiency indicated a "Deficient" performance level within the studied group. Consequently, the composite evaluation of fundamental football skill execution demonstrated by the student participants enrolled in the SMA Negeri 1 Sarolangun extracurricular football program was determined to be at a "Moderate" overall level. These findings underscore the current skill distribution within the program and highlight a specific area, namely heading, requiring targeted pedagogical intervention to elevate the overall technical competence of the student-athletes. Further research could explore the underlying factors contributing to these proficiency levels and the effectiveness of specific training methodologies in addressing the identified deficiencies.

Abstract

Volleyball is a recreational, interesting, and cost-effective team sport, played by two teams of six people each, and can be carried out indoors or outdoors. The main goal is to keep the ball moving through the net into the opponent's area. This study uses a quantitative descriptive method with a survey approach and data collection techniques in the form of tests. This study does not examine the relationship between variables, but only focuses on one independent variable. The single variable in this study is volleyball serving skills, which is interpreted as the ability of students to serve consistently to support the achievement of game goals effectively and efficiently, so that this skill is an important indicator in assessing the mastery of basic techniques of volleyball among students. This study was conducted for 2 days with 10 repetitions of services for extracurricular students at SMPN 3 Batumandi. Based on the findings of the research on the upper service skills possessed by 12 students of SMPN 3 Batumandi, it is known that as many as 4 people (33%) showed ability in the good category with a score range between 21 to more than 41. A total of 6 people (50%) were in the sufficient category with a score range of 13 to 40, while 2 people (17%) were classified as in the poor category with a score range between 3 to 26. From the results of the distribution, it can be concluded that the majority of students who participated in volleyball extracurricular activities at SMPN 3 Batumandi had upper service skills in the sufficient category, which was 50% of the total participants studied.

Abstract

This study investigates the influence of student motivation and teacher support on predicting physical fitness levels in primary school pupils engaged in rhythmic gymnastics programs. Employing a correlational quantitative methodology, data were gathered from 53 fourth-grade pupils at SD Al-Firdaus Islamic School in Samarinda during April and May 2025. Three validated surveys assessed student motivation (10 items), teacher support (8 items), and physical fitness (7 items) utilizing a 4-point Likert scale. The results indicated substantial positive connections among motivation and physical fitness (r=0.684, p<0.01), teacher support and physical fitness (r=0.496, p<0.01), as well as motivation and teacher support (r=0.642, p<0.01). Multiple regression analysis indicated that motivation and teacher support collectively accounted for 52.3% of the variance in physical fitness (R²=0.523, F=26.914, p<0.001). Motivation was identified as the more significant predictor (β=0.547, p<0.001) in contrast to teacher support (β=0.145, p=0.284). These findings underscore the vital importance of inner and extrinsic motivation in improving physical fitness via rhythmic gymnastics, while instructor support offers significant contextual facilitation.

Abstract

Passing is an important basic skill in football that affects the effectiveness of the game and teamwork. However, low motivation in basic technique training such as passing is an obstacle in the development of young athletes' abilities. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of individual passing and face-to-face passing training on increasing the training motivation of junior football athletes. The research design used a quasi experiment with a pretest–posttest approach two groups design. The subjects of the study were 24 junior football athletes aged 13–15 years who were divided into two groups. The motivation instrument uses a validated exercise motivation questionnaire. Data analysis was conducted using paired t-test and independent t-test. The results showed a significant increase in motivation in both groups, with the passing group facing off showed a higher increase (p < 0.05). These findings suggest that social interaction in face-to-face training can strengthen the motivational aspects of young athletes.
