Abstract

This study aims to identify and analyze morphological errors found in students’ weekly insha’ writings within the Pesantren (Islamic boarding school) environment. These errors, especially in derivation (ishtiqāq) and verb conjugation (taṣrīf), indicate limited consolidation of essential sharf principles. Despite the consistent implementation of weekly insha’ activities, dominant error patterns persist, revealing a gap between morphological theory and actual language use. Data were collected from students’ written works, semi-structured interviews with teachers and learners, and classroom observations to capture the teaching learning context. A qualitative content analysis was applied using a deductive-inductive coding process to classify errors into categories such as incorrect fi‘l forms, wazn inconsistencies, and misuse of ism patterns violating sharf rules. A morphological error-tracking matrix was designed to map and interpret these morphological deviations systematically. The findings demonstrate that limited contextual reinforcement and lack of applied practice contribute to recurring errors. Consequently, this study highlights the need to reorient sharf instruction toward integrative and practice-based approaches, with the morphological error-tracking matrix serving as both diagnostic and pedagogical innovation.

Abstract

This study examines the conceptual integration of the “curriculum of love” into Arabic language learning through the lens of Ki Hajar Dewantara’s educational philosophy. In the Indonesian context, Arabic serves not only as a linguistic medium but also as a means of internalizing Islamic values and character education. Nevertheless, Arabic instruction has largely emphasized cognitive and technical aspects, often overlooking learners’ emotional and spiritual development. Employing a literature review method, this study analyzes national and international scholarly works published between 2010 and 2025 concerning affective pedagogy, character-based Arabic education, and Dewantara’s educational principles—ing ngarso sung tulodo, ing madyo mangun karso, and tut wuri handayani. The findings propose a conceptual model of Arabic learning that integrates linguistic competence with affective-spiritual growth, positioning teachers as empathetic facilitators. This model promotes reflective, contextual, and student-centered learning, offering a culturally grounded and humanistic contribution to Arabic language pedagogy.

Abstract

This study aims to identify the levels and influencing factors of foreign language anxiety in Arabic Language learning among students at Tribakti of Islamic University. The study involved 73 participants and employed the Foreign Language Classroom Anxiety Scale (FLACS) developed by Horwitz et al. as the main instrument. The findings reveal that most learners experience mild levels of anxiety, while others report moderate to high anxiety levels. These results align with the perspectives of Krashen, Horwitz, MacIntyre, and Liu, who emphasize that anxiety is a key affective variable that can hinder input comprehension, affect language processing, and reduce learners’ confidence, particularly in speaking. This study enriches the literature on foreign language anxiety within the context of Arabic language learning, an area still less explored compared to other foreign languages. Additionally, it offers practical recommendations for educators, encouraging the adaptation of emotionally supportive teaching approaches, including anxiety-reduction strategies and confidence-building interventions to enhance learning outcomes.

Abstract

This study aims to design an innovative Arabic–Indonesian thematic digital dictionary tailored to the pedagogical needs of Madrasah Tsanawiyah (MTs) students. Existing digital dictionaries, such as Google Translate and Al-Ma’any, function mainly as general translation tools and do not align with curriculum requirements. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, this research involved needs analysis, conceptual design, and expert validation. Findings show a very high need for thematic digital vocabulary tools among students (85.83%) and teachers (90.91%). The proposed Q.S Dictionary integrates two core features: a Word Search feature for independent and efficient access to meanings, and a Word Example feature to support contextual understanding. UI/UX design was prioritised to enhance learners’ motivation and engagement. Expert validation results indicated high feasibility, with 91.67% from material experts and 97.5% from IT experts. The study provides a validated conceptual framework for developing pedagogically aligned digital vocabulary materials for MTs students.

Abstract

This study investigates the efficacy of Kitab al-Afʿāl al-Yawmiyyah in enhancing Arabic language acquisition among Malaysian female students. Using a quasi-experimental mixed-methods design, the study involved 30 intermediate-level students in a Kedah Islamic boarding school participated in a six-week program centered on daily verb use with a focus on feminine forms. Data were collected through pre- and post-tests, classroom observations, and semi-structured interviews. Quantitative analysis showed a significant increase in vocabulary mastery, with post-test scores yielding a large effect size (Cohen’s d = 1.78). Qualitative findings revealed that the kitab strengthened students’ confidence, raised awareness of gender-appropriate verb forms, and encouraged consistent use of the feminine plural suffix -na in oral communication. The study concludes that Kitab al-Afʿāl al-Yawmiyyah is an effective and identity-affirming resource for promoting inclusive and accurate Arabic pedagogy for female learners in Malaysia.

Abstract

The widespread use of Arabic loanwords in the Bima language has not been systematically integrated into Arabic instruction, creating a gap in contextual learning materials. This study develops an interactive module based on Arabic–Bima loanwords, grounded in the Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) approach and supported by Culturally Responsive Teaching (CRT). Using the Borg and Gall R&D model, five stages were completed: needs analysis, product design, expert validation, field testing, and revision, using a mixed-methods approach combining quantitative tests and qualitative feedback. Expert evaluations rated the module highly feasible (90–95%). Field trials at MAN 2 Kota Bima and MAN 2 Bima showed statistically significant improvement based on the Wilcoxon test (p = 0.000) and greater gains based on the Mann-Whitney test (p < 0.05). Teacher ratings (94–98%) and student feedback confirmed strong acceptance. The findings confirm the innovative potential of Arabic–Bima loanwords as an effective contextual and culturally responsive resource in Arabic language learning.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze Qur’anic verses for multicultural values using Toshihiko Izutsu’s semantic approach and to present pedagogical illustrations, informed by student reflections, that show how semantic awareness may emerge in Arabic language learning contexts. The study adopts a conceptual–qualitative research design that emphasizes textual interpretation and pedagogical reflection rather than the empirical evaluation of instructional effectiveness. Conceptual semantic analysis based on Izutsu’s framework is applied to selected Qur’anic verses through four interrelated layers of meaning: basic meaning, relational meaning, historical meaning, and worldview (Weltanschauung). The analysis demonstrates that multicultural values, such as diversity, justice, dialogue, social cooperation, and recognition of religious plurality, are constructed through relational networks of meaning linking key concepts, syntactic structures, and discourse patterns. Pedagogical illustrations drawn from reflective student accounts suggest that semantic-oriented engagement with Qur’anic texts can foster contextual, relational, and ethical awareness in Arabic language learning.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the practice of learning to read Arabic texts in the book Iḥyā Ulum ad-Dīn, which then identifies the social role patterns formed within it, and analyzes the principles of andragogy in adult education as reflected through the Anjangsana forum. This study uses an ethnographic approach following a 12-stage developmental research. Data were collected through participant observation during 24 meetings, in-depth interviews with 20 informants, and documentation in the form of recordings, texts from various print media, and digital communication archives. The results indicate that the practice of learning to read Arabic texts during the visit of Iḥyā’ ‘Ulūm ad-Dīn took place through collective sorogan reading by middle-aged and elderly congregants, interpretation of nahwu-ṣarfiyah with typical Islamic symbols, provision of murod in local languages, interactive discussions, and verification of textual variations across printed editions. Learning through the Anjangsana forum exhibits transformative characteristics that can be understood as a form of community of practice. This study offers an alternative, participatory, inclusive, and reflective learning process rooted in local tradition, combining linguistic, spiritual, and socio-religious dimensions.

Abstract

Background: Listening comprehension remains a major challenge in Arabic language learning, particularly in non-Arabic-speaking contexts such as Indonesian pesantren. Limited exposure to authentic auditory input often hinders phoneme recognition, prosodic awareness, and comprehension of connected speech. Recent advances in artificial intelligence, especially Text-to-Speech (TTS) technology, offer new opportunities to provide consistent, high-quality auditory input that can enhance listening skill development. Research Objectives: This study aims to examine the effectiveness of the ElevenLabs Text-to-Speech technology in improving students’ Arabic listening comprehension and to explore students’ perceptions regarding the clarity, authenticity, and motivational impact of AI-generated Arabic audio. Methodology: The study employed a mixed-methods quasi-experimental pre-test–post-test design complemented with interviews and classroom observations. Sixty intermediate students from Pondok Pesantren Darullughah Wadda’wah were assigned to an experimental group and a control group. The experimental group used ElevenLabs TTS materials, while the control group used teacher-narrated audio. Quantitative data were analyzed using paired-sample t-tests and qualitative data were processed through thematic analysis. Results: The findings revealed a significant improvement in the experimental group’s listening scores, increasing from a mean of 63.2 to 82.7, while the control group showed only moderate improvement from 64.5 to 71.4. The statistical analysis indicated a significant difference (p < 0.05). Qualitative results also showed that students perceived the AI-generated voices as clearer, more authentic, and emotionally engaging, which enhanced their motivation and reduced listening anxiety. Unique Contribution: This study contributes to the emerging field of AI-assisted Arabic language education by demonstrating how human-like TTS technology can be effectively integrated into pesantren-based learning environments while maintaining both pedagogical and spiritual values. Conclusion: The study confirms that ElevenLabs TTS significantly enhances Arabic listening comprehension by providing consistent, expressive, and cognitively accessible auditory input for learners. Recommendations: Future studies are recommended to explore long-term applications of AI-based listening tools across other Arabic language skills and in broader Islamic educational contexts.
