Abstract

The issue of science literacy has gained significant importance in recent years, particularly as the world faces complex, technology-driven challenges that demand scientifically literate citizens. Science literacy, which encompasses the knowledge and skills needed to understand and engage with scientific concepts, is a critical element of modern education. However, despite its importance, many educational systems, particularly in developing countries, struggle to effectively enhance students' science literacy. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of the Caplaire Learning Model in improving science literacy among students in the elementary school teacher education program at Universitas Negeri Medan (UNIMED). The study uses a mixed-methods approach, incorporating both quantitative (pre-test and post-test) and qualitative (interviews and surveys) data collection techniques to assess the impact of the model. Findings indicate a significant improvement in students' scientific literacy following the implementation of the Caplaire model, with higher post-test scores and positive feedback from students and lecturers. The Caplaire model, which integrates inquiry-based learning and reflection, effectively engaged students and fostered a deeper understanding of scientific concepts. These results suggest that the Caplaire model can be a valuable tool for improving science literacy in teacher education programs, with potential implications for broader adoption in educational curricula.

Abstract

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a developmental condition impacting communication, social interaction, and behavior. Communication assessments for children with ASD are often conducted manually, making the process time-consuming, which can lead to delays in developing educational programs and a lack of standardization due to subjective evaluations. This study introduces an automated framework using Whisper and GPT-4o to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of evaluating communication abilities and language patterns in children with ASD. The research adopts a Research and Development (RnD) approach with the ASET model (Analyze, System Design, Execution, Testing), engaging children with mild and moderate verbal ASD and teachers from four autism schools in Daerah Istimewa Yogyakarta, Indonesia. Data were collected through interviews, classroom observations, audio recordings, and a matrix-based evaluation. Whisper was employed for automated transcription, integrated with GPT-4o for speaker diarization and communication analysis. Results showed an 89.1% reduction in analysis time compared to manual methods. Whisper achieved a low Word Error Rate (WER) for mild autism (average 5%) and a higher rate for moderate autism (average 23%). GPT-4o contributed to the process with high speaker diarization accuracy (93.9% for mild autism and 89.2% for moderate autism). The framework identified detailed communication improvements through the matrix-based evaluation, including verbal, pragmatic, semantic, sentence structure, and echolalia aspects. It provided insights previously undetected by teachers, such as specific developmental patterns in each aspect. The future research should integrate intonation and emotional analysis, refine diarization accuracy, and validate the approach across diverse populations.

Abstract

In today's digital era, technology plays a crucial role in bridging the gap in access to information and education, especially in Indonesia's 3T regions frontier, remote, and disadvantaged areas. However, limited infrastructure and inadequate access to appropriate tools remain persistent challenges. This study aims to develop the DJ LITA device as a practical solution for these communities and to ensure that the device meets the standards of validity, practicality, and effectiveness. The research applies a modified version of the Borg & Gall model combined with the Multimedia Development Life Cycle (MDLC), resulting in twelve development stages: research and data collection, concept development, design, material gathering, production, initial testing, product revision, field testing, operational revision, operational testing, final revision, and dissemination. A descriptive approach was used to analyze the development process, validator feedback, and trial outcomes. Due to the small and non-random sample, non-parametric statistical methods were applied to suit the data characteristics and research goals. Results from black box testing confirmed the device's technical validity, with no system errors detected. Practicality was supported by expert validation (87.5% very practical), and trials involving 25 participants in a small group and 30 in a large group, with an overall practicality score of 96.22%. The effectiveness of the DJ LITA  application was shown through a 63.38% average improvement in post-test scores compared to pre-tests, indicating a moderate level of effectiveness. This research provides a relevant and adaptive technological approach to improving information and education access in underserved regions.

Abstract

In the era of digital transformation, future accountants are required to have skills with the demands of the industry. The gap between accounting graduates' competencies and industry demands is still a challenge, especially when it comes to financial report preparation skills. This research aims to determine the effectiveness of bacsite (Basic Accounting Website) as a learning medium in improving participants' accounting skills. This research used a pre-test and post-test-based experimental method in the control group and the experimental group, the results showed that participants who used bacsite experienced a 59% higher increase in accounting skills scores than the control group which only increased 54%. Standard deviation analysis showed that the value distribution of the experimental group was more even, signaling a more consistent understanding among participants. Statistical tests also confirmed a significant difference (p < 0.05) between the two groups, reinforcing evidence that bacsite was effective in supporting accounting learning. In addition to improving technical skills, bacsite also encourages self-regulated learning that is in line with the characteristics of today's digital generation. The number of participants who successfully completed the exam correctly increased by 41.7% compared to the previous class. Bacsite is not only a learning tool, but also an innovative solution in bridging the gap between academia and industry.

Abstract

University services can be evaluated based on the quality of performance provided by faculty, administrative staff, and supporting institutional structures. Ensuring student satisfaction and minimizing complaints related to campus facilities are essential in enhancing the quality of higher education. This study aims to develop a method for measuring student satisfaction with campus services at Indramayu State Polytechnic using the fuzzy SERVQUAL technique. Data were collected through a questionnaire distributed to 100 students from three majors: Engineering, Informatics, and Nursing. The instrument used was both valid, with a 5% significance level, and reliable, as shown by a Cronbach's alpha score of 0.746. Data analysis involved comparing the gap between students’ perceptions and expectations across five service quality dimensions: tangibility, reliability, responsiveness, assurance, and empathy. The analysis revealed the largest gap in tangibility and the smallest in empathy. These findings indicate that while certain service aspects meet student expectations, others still require significant improvement. The results are expected to provide valuable input for the campus to enhance service quality and better align institutional performance with student needs. It is recommended that continuous evaluation and improvement efforts be implemented, particularly in the most critical service dimensions.

Abstract

This study aims to see the effect of augmented reality as a learning media on interest in learning table tennis. The research method used is a quasi-experimental method with the research design The Maching Only Pretest-Posttest Control Group Design. The results of this study indicate that the pretest results of students' learning interest show that there is a difference between the average value of learning interest. The average of the experimental class (72.34) is greater than the average value of learning interest in the control class (72.04). To determine whether the difference is significant or not, it is necessary to test the difference. The conclusion in this study based on the results of the t-test shows that the pretest value of learning interest is 0.48 smaller than the t table value at a significant level of 5%. So it can be concluded that there is no difference in the initial ability of experimental and control class students. The prerequisite test results show that the experimental and control class data are normal and homogeneous so that the para-metric statistical test is carried out, namely the t-test. So it can be concluded that there is a significant difference in student learning interest between the experimental class and the control class.

Abstract

The development of the Industrial Revolution 4.0 requires the education system to continue to adapt to technology and dynamic social changes. The curriculum as the foundation of education undergoes various changes to adapt to industry needs and global demands. This research aims to analyze curriculum changes in Indonesia through literature studies, focusing on the comparison between the 2013 Curriculum, Merdeka Curriculum, and the latest National Curriculum. The method used is a bibliometric approach with data analysis from various academic and educational policy sources. The results show that Curriculum 2013 still tends to be rigid and less flexible, while Merdeka Curriculum provides more freedom in learning design. The new National Curriculum is designed to integrate digital technology and 21st century skills but is still in the early stages of implementation. The impact of these changes on teachers includes increased demands on digital and pedagogical competencies, while for students, a more flexible curriculum provides learning opportunities that are more suited to individual needs. The study recommends improved teacher training, equitable distribution of digital infrastructure and collaboration between schools, industry and government in curriculum design.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the application of collaborative learning techniques as a strategy to overcome syntactic interference of Indonesian into English in the abstract writing of Teacher Professional Program (PPG) students at FKIP UMSU. Collaborative learning is learning that encourages learners to interact with each other, cooperate, and work together. The approach used was descriptive qualitative research method, involving collaboration techniques between students in focus discussion groups to improve the syntactic structure of the abstract. The research data were taken from 25 student abstracts, before and after the collaborative learning intervention. The analysis showed that collaborative learning significantly reduced syntactic interference such as the absence of to be, the use of inverted phrase patterns, and passive sentence structure errors. In addition, it was found that this approach increased students' linguistic awareness of the fundamental differences between Indonesian and English syntax. This research makes a real contribution to the development of more effective English teaching techniques for professional teacher education, as well as offering practical strategies for improving the academic quality of students in higher education. The implications of this research open up opportunities to expand the application of collaborative learning in other language teaching contexts.
