Abstract

Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) are essential competencies in the 21st century. Although many studies have examined Engineering Design Process-STEM (EDP-STEM), there is still limited synthesis of its effectiveness in physics learning. This study applied a systematic review using the PRISMA protocol and synthesized nine empirical studies published between 2019 and 2024. Data were analyzed with a random-effects model. The overall effect size was 0.64 (95% CI [0.17–1.11], I² = 86%), indicating a moderate positive impact of EDP-STEM on students’ HOTS. Moderator analysis revealed that learning media (prototyping), education level (high school), and performance-based assessments produced the most significant effects. EDP-STEM effectively enhances HOTS in physics learning, particularly problem-solving skills. Teachers are encouraged to integrate prototyping and authentic assessment strategies. Future research should expand the number of studies and contexts to strengthen the evidence base.

Abstract

Creative thinking skills are essential for 21st-century learning, yet Indonesian students' creativity levels remain below international standards, particularly in chemistry education where traditional approaches dominate. This study developed student worksheets (LKPD) that integrate creative values within a Project-Based Learning (PjBL) framework for electrolyte and non-electrolyte solutions topic. Using the ADDIE development model, data were collected from chemistry teachers, education lecturers, and students through validation questionnaires and analyzed descriptively. Results demonstrated high teacher demand for creative-value LKPD, with expert validation confirming the product as feasible for classroom implementation. Teacher responses indicated the worksheets were highly practical, while students found them very attractive and engaging. The developed LKPD successfully met validity, practicality, and attractiveness criteria. This research contributes theoretically by demonstrating the effectiveness of integrating creative values with PjBL in chemistry education, while practically providing educators with an innovative instructional tool that enhances student creativity, engagement, and active learning. The findings support the potential of creative-value worksheets to transform traditional chemistry instruction and foster 21st-century skills development.

Abstract

This study examines to identify and compare the stages of students reasoning during the learning process, and to understand the role of teacher facilitator in shaping students critical thinking development. The research was conducted using a qualitative descriptive approach through observations, interviews, and document analysis. Data were coded following the Saldana model to generate categories and themes of students reasoning. The findings indivate a gradual development of students thinking. In the early cycle, students mainly focused on identifying problems and making simple interpretations, while in the following cycle they began to demonstrate analysis, evaluation, and more structured conclusions. Teacher facilitation and group collaboration were found to play an important role in supporting this process. Overall, the study highlights that problem solving based physics learning fosters the growth of comprehensive reasoning abilities and strengthens students learning independence. These results contribute to the improvement of instructional practices that emphasize higher order competencies needed in the 21st century.

Abstract

Low teacher commitment remains a major challenge in educational management, affecting the consistency of instructional quality and institutional stability. This research aimed to formulate a strategy to strengthen teachers’ institutional attachment by integrating local wisdom and organizational support. The study employed the Modeling and Optimization of Management Resource Strengthening (POP-HR) approach combined with SITOREM analysis to identify key variables and prioritize improvement indicators. Data were collected through a multistage random sampling of 120 foundation-based teachers using standardized questionnaires measuring transformational leadership, career development, and local wisdom values of silih asih (mutual care) and silih asuh (mutual guidance). The results of path analysis showed that transformational leadership and career development had significant direct and indirect effects on teacher loyalty, mediated by cultural values. SITOREM findings revealed several weak indicators such as equality, motivation, and training opportunities that require targeted improvement. Strengthening leadership practices, supporting career growth, and internalizing local cultural values were found to be effective strategies to enhance teacher engagement and dedication. The findings provide a framework for developing culturally grounded strategies in education management to strengthen teacher engagement

Abstract

This study investigates the integration of Problem-Based Learning (PBL) with digital technology in science education and its potential to enhance students’ critical thinking skills in the 21st century. Using a systematic literature review, 28 studies published between 2005 and 2025 were analyzed through thematic analysis. The review shows a steady growth of research on digital PBL, demonstrating its effectiveness in promoting critical thinking, problem-solving, and creativity. Supporting factors include adequate digital infrastructure, school and teacher support, while barriers such as the digital divide, limited training, and cognitive overload remain challenges. Despite its promise, existing studies rarely adopt longitudinal designs and often lack standardized instruments for measuring critical thinking. The findings highlight that integrating Digital PBL offers a transformative approach to science learning, enabling more interactive and inclusive classrooms. Theoretically, this study reinforces constructivist perspectives by showing how digital PBL fosters active knowledge construction. Practically, it provides insights for policymakers and educators to strengthen teacher training, improve infrastructure, and design more robust frameworks for sustainable digital PBL implementation.

Abstract

Low levels of disaster literacy and critical thinking among students highlight the need for innovative and contextualized learning media in science education. This research develops and evaluates the effectiveness of a flood disaster mitigation science E-comic to enhance students’ critical thinking and disaster preparedness. The study employed a Research and Development (R&D) approach using the 4D model (Define, Design, Develop, and Disseminate). Validation results indicated that the E-comic is feasible as a learning medium, with CVI values of 0.89 (media) and 1.00 (content). The use of the E-comic effectively improved students’ critical thinking skills and disaster preparedness, as evidenced by high N-Gain scores and significant statistical results. The improvement was consistently observed across all disaster preparedness indicators, including knowledge, attitudes, and response planning. The study concludes that the flood disaster mitigation E-comic is both effective and feasible as a contextual science learning medium. The integration of flood-related physical science concepts demonstrates how contextualized media can strengthen scientific literacy in disaster education.

Abstract

se pollution and household waste accumulation are interrelated environmental challenges that demand sustainable and innovative solutions. This study aimed to develop eco-friendly sound-absorbing materials from household waste through a Project-Based Learning (PjBL) approach to enhance students’ ecopreneurship skills. The research employed a developmental design involving 16 students from the Science Education Study Program at Universitas Hasyim Asy’ari enrolled in the Environmental Science course. The project-based approach comprised problem identification, project design, product fabrication and testing, reflection, and presentation. Data were collected through observations of project implementation, Noise Reduction Coefficient (NRC) measurements, and ecopreneurship skill questionnaires. Results showed that the project was effectively implemented (88.40%), and the developed sound absorber composed of recycled paper, wood dust, and textile waste achieved a maximum NRC of 0.83 at mid-to-high frequencies, indicating good acoustic performance. A paired-sample t-test revealed a statistically significant improvement in students’ ecopreneurship skills (t(15) = 6.21, p < 0.001), especially in sustainability orientation and creative innovation. The project-based activities also helped students better understand the physics of sound absorption and its real-world applications. These findings demonstrate that integrating project-based learning with environmental contexts strengthens physics education while fostering sustainable innovation and green entrepreneurial competence.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui kecenderungan dan pengaruh prestasi belajar fisika yang diajar dengan metode eksperimen dan tanpa metode eksperimen. Jumlah populasi dalam penelitian ini 62 siswa. Sampel diambil secara random sampling, kelas VIII A sebagai kelas eksperimen dan kelas VIII B sebagai kelas control. Kemampuan awal berasal dari nilai tes prestasi belajar fisika sebelum diberi perlakuan khusus. Data prestasi belajar dengan soal tes pilihan ganda. Teknis analisis data dengan uji- t setelah dilakukan uji persyaratan analisis, yang meliputi uji normalitas sebaran dan uji homogenitas varian. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa adanya kecenderungan dan perbedaan yang sangat signifikan prestasi belajar fisika yang diajar dengan metode eksperimen dan tanpa metode eksperimen. Karena uji- t ( thitung= 2,712 > ttabel 5% = 2,000), hal ini berarti secara komparatif terdapat pengaruh yang sangat signifikan prestasi belajar fisika pokok bahasan pesawat sederhana antara yang diajar dengan metode eksperimen dan tanpa metode eksperimen.

Abstract

Penelitian ini secara deskriptif bertujuan untuk mengetahui kecenderungan prestasi belajar fisika yang diajar menggunakan model Problem Basic Learning dan yang diajar menggunakan model konvensional. Secara komparatif bertujuan untuk mengetahui perbedaan prestasi belajar fisika antara yang diajar menggunakan model Problem Basi Learning dengan model konvensional. Teknik analisis data menggunakan uji-t, tetapi sebelumnya dilakukan uji prasyarat analisis meliputi uji normalitas sebaran dan uji homogenitas varian. Hasil penelitian secara deskriptif menunjukkan bahwa kecenderungan prestasi belajar fisika yang diajar menggunakan model Problem Basic Learning termasuk dalam kategori sangat tinggi dan yang diajar menggunakan model konvensional termasuk dalam kategori tinggi. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa ada perbedaan yang sangat signifikan prestasi belajar fisika antara yang diajar menggunakan model Problem Basic Learning dengan model konvensional. Rerata prestasi belajar fisika model Problem Basic Learning lebih tinggi dari model konvensional, sehingga dapat disimpulkan ada pengaruh penggunaan model Problem Basic Learning terhadap prestasi belajar fisika.
