Abstract

This study aims to identify the multicultural values embedded in the novel 99 Cahaya di Langit Eropa by Hanum Salsabiela Rais and Rangga Almahendra, and to examine their implementation in literary appreciation learning in vocational high schools. This research employs a qualitative case study approach. The data consist of literary appreciation learning activities in a Grade XII Vocational High School 1 Koto Baru, Dharmasraya Regency, West Sumatra class, with data sources including students and the novel itself. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The data analysis process involved data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal a total of 250 multicultural values categorized into five themes: tolerance, trust building, mutual respect, flexible thinking, interdependence, and appreciation. These values are conveyed through the characters’ interactions with individuals from diverse religious, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds. The study also found that these values are reflected and reinforced through classroom activities that promote respect for diversity, cooperative learning, and character development. This research contributes to the development of multicultural-based literary appreciation learning by demonstrating how literature can be used as a pedagogical tool to foster inclusivity, empathy, and social harmony among students.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the implementation of ‘aqīqah in the multicultural community of Binjai City from the perspective of hadith, as well as to develop contextual hadith-based educational guides. This research uses a qualitative approach with a type of ethnography. The main data in the form of the practice of implementing ‘aqīqah is reviewed from the hadith. The data sources include religious leaders, educational leaders, and the community implementing ‘aqīqah who were selected purposively in five sub-districts of Binjai City. Data collection techniques are carried out through direct observation of ‘aqīqah activities, semi-structured interviews to explore the understanding of hadith, and documentation in the form of event archives, photos, and lecture scripts. Data analysis is carried out through three stages, namely data reduction to sort out relevant information, presentation of data in the form of thematic narratives, and inductive conclusion drawing to see the relationship between the understanding of hadith and the socio-religious practices of the community. The results of the study show that although the community understands ‘aqīqah as part of the teachings of the Prophet PBUH, the practice is greatly influenced by local culture and economic factors. Many processions are adapted, even mixed with non-sharia traditions. The conclusion of this study emphasizes the importance of adaptive hadith-based education and the preparation of guidelines for the implementation of ‘aqīqah in accordance with the context of modern society.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the impact of the 15-minute reading program on the reading culture of fifth-grade students at SDN 023 Pandau Jaya in the Siak Hulu District of Kampar Regency. The methodology employed in this research is a qualitative approach utilizing a case study method. There are two types of data sources: primary and secondary. Primary data is derived from original information collected directly by the researchers through observations, interviews, and documentation involving class teachers and fifth-grade students at SDN 023 Pandau Jaya. Meanwhile, secondary data were obtained from journals, books, supporting documents, and notes relevant to the research. The researchers employed various techniques for data collection, including interviews, observations, and document reviews involving research subjects such as the principal, the VB homeroom teacher, and the VB class students in elementary schools. The data analysis technique used in this study was based on the Miles and Huberman model, which consists of data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results of the study indicated that the 15-minute reading program had both positive and negative impacts on the reading culture of fifth-grade elementary school students. Positive impacts included the encouragement of a reading culture, while negative impacts included the perception of reading as an obligation rather than a necessity, which led to feelings of pressure among students regarding the 15-minute reading program activities conducted in elementary schools.

Abstract

This study aims to describe and analyze the implementation of an entrepreneurship curriculum based on the PDCA (Plan-Do-Check-Act) cycle at SMA Islam Sunan Gunung Jati Tulungagung. Employing a descriptive qualitative approach with a case study method, data were collected through in-depth interviews with the principal, vice principal for curriculum affairs, entrepreneurship teachers, program coordinators, and students from Grades XI and XII. Additional data were obtained through observation of entrepreneurship learning activities—including classroom teaching, student business projects, and school entrepreneurship events—and document analysis of lesson plans, modules, rubrics, and student business products. The analysis followed Miles and Huberman’s interactive model involving data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings show that the curriculum was planned collaboratively and rooted in local potentials. Implementation emphasized experiential, project-based learning integrated with Islamic values and 21st-century skills such as collaboration, creativity, and digital literacy. Evaluation was conducted formatively and reflectively, assessing not only cognitive understanding but also affective aspects like responsibility and honesty. Follow-up activities included mentoring, advanced training, and integration of digital tools to support continuous improvement. The novelty of this study lies in the integration of the PDCA cycle into an entrepreneurship curriculum that aligns with Islamic and multicultural values, making it relevant to the sociocultural realities of students. This research contributes conceptually to the development of contextual, adaptive, and character-based curricula in Islamic education, providing a reference for similar initiatives in other institutions. It demonstrates that entrepreneurship education can serve as a strategic medium for character formation and socio-economic empowerment.

Abstract

This study investigates the perceptions of final-year students in the Islamic Religious Education (PAI) Study Program at IAIN Kerinci regarding the evolution, structure, and implementation of the Islamic education curriculum in Indonesia. Employing a qualitative research approach with a case study design, the research seeks to provide an in-depth and contextually grounded understanding of student experiences within a specific institutional setting. Data were collected using triangulated methods, including in-depth semi-structured interviews, participant observation, and document analysis. A total of ten final-year students—purposively selected based on academic performance and active participation in academic and co-curricular activities—were interviewed to gain reflective insights into how the curriculum aligns with professional teaching demands. The findings reveal that while students acknowledge the curriculum’s foundational role in shaping moral character and professional competencies, they also identify significant disjunctions between policy intentions and classroom realities. Key issues include outdated content, limited digital literacy integration, lack of interdisciplinary approaches, and inadequate preparation for real-world teaching challenges. Students perceived that current curricula overemphasize theoretical knowledge while underpreparing them for professional demands such as inclusive education, contextual pedagogy, and technological adaptation. Despite progressive reforms like the Merdeka Curriculum, institutional readiness and lecturer capacity remain major barriers to effective implementation. This study contributes to curriculum discourse by centering student voices and emphasizing the need for learner-inclusive reform in Islamic higher education. The findings suggest that involving students as active stakeholders in curriculum design is essential for achieving contextual, adaptive, and competency-based Islamic education.

Abstract

This study explores how strategic leadership can drive institutional transformation towards excellence in Islamic higher education. A qualitative research approach with an ethnographic orientation was adopted, conducted at UIN Sulthan Thaha Saifuddin Jambi, Indonesia, over the course of one year, particularly during the university’s national accreditation preparation. Data were collected through three primary methods: participant observation in leadership meetings and quality assurance activities, in-depth interviews with 14 key informants (including university leaders, lecturers, and accreditation staff), and document analysis of institutional strategic plans and accreditation reports. Data analysis employed an inductive thematic procedure, in which interview transcripts, field notes, and institutional documents were analysed to identify emerging themes. The findings reveal that strategic leadership was realised through three key pillars: clear visionary direction, participatory management, and the integration of Islamic humanistic values into institutional governance. Despite facing challenges such as structural fragmentation, limited financial resources, and cultural resistance to change, leadership succeeded in mobilising collective commitment and aligning organisational efforts with accreditation goals. As a result, the university achieved the highest national accreditation rating (A). This study contributes theoretically by contextualising strategic leadership within faith-based educational settings in the Global South and highlighting the importance of moral authority, inclusive communication, and organisational synergy. Practically, the findings offer valuable insights for Islamic university leaders seeking to foster excellence under constrained conditions.

Abstract

This study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of the circle discussion strategy in developing social skills among seventh-grade basic students. An experimental design was employed with 57 female students divided into experimental (n=32) and control (n=25) groups. The experimental group was taught using the circle discussion strategy while the control group received traditional instruction. Data was collected using a social skills assessment measuring six key dimensions: cooperation and group work, communication, empathy and acceptance of others, school-home social skills, decision-making, and problem-solving. The experiment was conducted during the first semester of the 2024-2025 academic year in Zakho, Kurdistan Region, Iraq. Findings revealed statistically significant differences between the experimental and control groups in favor of the circle discussion strategy group. Analysis showed a large effect size (η²=0.496), confirming the strategy's substantial impact on developing students' social skills. The results suggest that structured circle discussion activities provide valuable opportunities for students to practice social skills in authentic contexts, reinforcing the importance of implementing interactive pedagogical approaches in middle school classrooms.

Abstract

This study aims to explore in depth the experiences and perspectives of school principals in fulfilling their roles to enhance the quality of education at Taman Kanak-Kanak Taman Indriya (Taman Indriya Kindergarten), Boja Subdistrict, Kendal Regency. This research employs a qualitative approach with a phenomenological design, focusing on the subjective meaning of participants' lived experiences. The data used in this study consist of the principals’ and teachers’ narratives obtained through in-depth interviews, observational field notes recorded during school activities, and relevant documents such as school programs, supervision notes, and teacher activity records. The data were analyzed using a phenomenological analysis technique following the stages of data reduction, coding, theme development, and meaning interpretation based on the lived experiences of participants. Through this process, the findings reveal that the principal perceives her role as a manager in designing and organizing programs participatively, as a leader who fosters positive relationships and work motivation, and as an innovator who develops contextual learning and promotes active parental involvement. These three roles are carried out reflectively and adaptively in response to the institution’s challenges and needs. This study underscores the importance of a humanistic and contextual leadership approach in managing early childhood education. The findings have implications for strengthening the leadership capacity of ECE principals based on a deep understanding of real-world contexts and lived experiences.
