Abstract

This study examines how two Islamic higher education institutions in Tuban. IAINU Tuban with its entrepreneurial campus orientation and IAI Al-Hikmah Tuban with its integrative pesantren model—manage institutional transformation. Employing Schneider and Beatty’s institutional transformation framework and a qualitative multi-site design, data were obtained from the rectors and vice-rectors of both campuses through in-depth interviews, document analysis (including statutes, RIP, strategic plans, operational plans, and field notes), and direct observation. The data were processed using content analysis, presentation, and conclusion drawing, supported by triangulation of sources and techniques to ensure credibility. Interviews were conducted with campus leaders, the rector, and the vice-rector, as well as observations at the university during the same academic year. Data were analyzed using qualitative methods validated through triangulation of sources and techniques, then interpreted based on selected theories. The findings suggest that the negotiation between entrepreneurial orientation and pesantren integration does not create a zero-sum competition but rather a complementary dynamic. IAINU Tuban emphasizes market orientation, entrepreneurship training, and industry partnerships, while IAI Al-Hikmah Tuban prioritizes pesantren-based character education and community engagement. Both institutions demonstrate adaptive strategies shaped by local traditions and global challenges, resulting in hybrid institutional models. This study makes a theoretical contribution by enriching the literature on institutional transformation in Islamic higher education through a negotiation lens, while also providing practical implications for policymakers and university leaders in balancing modern competitiveness and Islamic values. This research offers a conceptual contribution in the form of an Islamic Hybrid Institutional Model relevant to the development of Islamic institutional transformation theory. Empirically, this study enriches the literature with a contextual portrait of the transformation of two Islamic universities in Tuban, IAINU Tuban and IAI Al-Hikmah Tuban which demonstrates how pesantren values and entrepreneurial orientation can productively negotiate.

Abstract

This study analyzed how Indonesia's Pancasila Student Profile Strengthening Project (P5), as a hidden curriculum, contributes to collaborative abilities, character formation, and creativity enhancement. The research employed a mixed-method correlational design, collecting quantitative data from 60 junior high students across 10 schools in Palangkaraya through Likert questionnaires, complemented by qualitative interviews with 10 P5 coordinator teachers, analyzed using Pearson correlation and thematic analysis. Statistical analysis revealed significant positive correlations between P5 implementation and all outcomes: character development (r = .507, p < .001), collaboration skills (r = .610, p < .001), and creativity (r = .652, p < .001), representing large effect sizes with creativity showing the strongest association (42.5% explained variance). Qualitative findings confirmed P5 fosters collaborative interactions through group projects, authentic character development through real-world experiences involving responsibility and empathy, and enhanced creativity through interest-driven projects. The study concludes that P5 effectively functions as a hidden curriculum, developing Pancasila Student Profile characteristics through meaningful experiential learning that transcends conventional approaches, warranting continued policy support.

Abstract

This study investigates the integration of soft-skill strategies in teaching Akidah Akhlak at MAN Kota Sorong, driven by the issue of limited awareness between teachers and students. The research aims to explore how interpersonal, intrapersonal, and effective communication skills are embedded within the teaching process, the role of teachers as facilitators and learning managers, and the forms of evaluation and constructive feedback used. Employing a qualitative phenomenological approach, the study involved 14 participants—12 students (6 males and six females) selected from 300 eleventh-grade students based on character diversity and family background, and 2 Akidah Akhlak teachers. Data were collected through in-depth interviews and classroom observations and were then analysed thematically to reveal the lived experiences and meanings participants perceived. Findings indicate that most students recognized the partial integration of soft skills through thematic and cooperative learning; yet, several admitted that such practices were rarely emphasized or explicitly connected to moral instruction. Teachers reported limited mastery and consistency in applying soft-skill-based approaches due to curriculum rigidity and inadequate training. Despite these challenges, both teachers and students agreed that integrating soft skills—such as empathy, communication, and self-control—greatly enhances moral awareness and character formation. The study concludes that embedding soft skills into Akidah Akhlak instruction is essential for addressing pedagogical and behavioural challenges. It recommends systematic teacher training and technology-based learning designs to strengthen students’ moral competence and adaptive interpersonal behaviour.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to briefly analyze the strategies, challenges, and impacts of internalizing Islamic economic values in improving digital literacy and shaping entrepreneurial ethics based on the values of justice (al-‘adl), honesty (al-sidq), trustworthiness, and benefit (al-maslahah). This study discusses the internalization of Islamic economic values in the development of digital literacy and entrepreneurial ethics through an Islamic values education approach in the Arab community in Palembang City. This study is motivated by the importance of digital literacy as a means of economic empowerment for Muslim communities in the era of technological transformation, as well as a medium for learning Islamic values and morality in business activities. This research is qualitative with a phenomenological approach; the research data were obtained from in-depth interviews with 15 informants, consisting of business actors, community leaders, and consumers, supplemented by participatory observation and documentation of the digital activities of the business community. The analysis was conducted interactively using the Miles and Huberman model with reduction, presentation, and conclusion drawing, as well as triangulation of sources and methods to ensure validity. The results show that the level of digital literacy among business actors varies, influenced by factors such as generation, social trust, and community support. The internalization of Islamic economic values has been proven to strengthen ethical awareness, increase consumer trust, and encourage fair and sustainable entrepreneurial behavior. This study contributes to the development of a digital literacy-based Islamic values education model that integrates business ethics and entrepreneurial spirituality.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the role of the principal’s transformational leadership in shaping school culture and improving student achievement at SDI Pelangi Bandar Lampung. The study is grounded in the need to understand how school leadership can create a conducive learning environment and directly influence students’ academic outcomes, particularly within the context of private primary schools, which remain relatively under-researched. Diverse human resources, unequal teacher capacity, and a school culture that is not yet fully adaptive to change often become obstacles in achieving optimal educational outcomes. This research employs a qualitative approach with a case study design. Data analysis was conducted through the stages of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing interactively. The practices implemented by the principal successfully fostered a safe, welcoming, collaborative, and achievement-oriented school culture. This strong school culture directly contributed to increased learning motivation, discipline, and student participation in both academic and non-academic activities. The study concludes that transformational leadership plays a crucial role in shaping a positive school culture and directly enhancing student achievement at SDI Pelangi Bandar Lampung. Within the dimension of intellectual stimulation, the implementation of Project-Based Learning, the use of learning corners, and opportunities for classroom experimentation demonstrate that innovation has become an integral part of the school culture. This support has improved instructional effectiveness and heightened student enthusiasm for academic activities. Meanwhile, the dimension of individualized consideration is reflected through mentoring, coaching, and clinical supervision provided by the principal to teachers. This personalized approach has increased teacher confidence, reduced emotional barriers in teaching, and strengthened interpersonal relationships within the school environment.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the role of innovative school leadership in encouraging digital transformation in the learning process. The study was conducted through a qualitative method based on Systematic Literature Review (SLR) by searching scientific articles from three main databases: SINTA, Scopus, and Google Scholar. The initial identification process produced 122 articles, then a screening process was carried out based on inclusion criteria for theme suitability, the 2018–2024 range, and the connection with innovative leadership concepts and digital learning transformation. At the final stage, 25 articles were selected that met the criteria for further analysis. Data collection techniques in SLR are carried out through four stages: (1) identification of keywords such as innovative leadership, digital transformation in education, and school leadership; (2) search for articles in selected databases; (3) selection through PRISMA Flow, including elimination of duplication, head-abstract analysis, and content feasibility review; and (4) data extraction based on innovative leadership indicators, digital transformation strategies, and learning technology implementation results. Data analysis was carried out using thematic synthesis techniques, which map patterns, core concepts, and consistent findings between articles to produce a comprehensive understanding of innovative leadership relationships and learning digitization processes. The results of the study show that school principals with innovative leadership characteristics, especially those oriented towards adaptation, collaboration, and teacher capacity development, play a significant role in accelerating the integration of digital technology in schools. Innovative leadership encourages the strategic use of technology, improves the quality of learning planning, and strengthens a collaborative work culture among educators. These findings confirm that innovative school leadership is a key factor in accelerating digital transformation while building an adaptive learning culture oriented towards improving the quality of education.

Abstract

This research aims to describe the leadership perspective of the Persatuan Islam (Persis) Branch of Tanjungsari on the concept of religious moderation, analyze its relevance to Emile Durkheim’s structural-functional theory and George Herbert Mead’s symbolic interactionism, and explain its sociological implications for community interaction in Tanjungsari. This study employs a qualitative-descriptive approach using field studies and library research. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, involving Persis religious leaders and community members as primary data sources, while books, journals, and official documents served as secondary data. The analysis applies sociological interpretation based on Durkheim’s and Mead’s theoretical frameworks. The findings indicate that Persis Tanjungsari understands religious moderation as a social mechanism that fosters harmony while maintaining Islamic orthodoxy. Moderation is practiced in social interactions but not extended to theological compromise. The organization functions as a moral regulator, cultivating tolerance without diluting religious principles. This aligns with Durkheim’s concept of religion as a source of social solidarity and Mead’s view of meaning formation through interaction. This study contributes to the sociology of religion in Indonesia by revealing the internal meaning-making process of moderation within Persis and its implications for community cohesion.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the educational social intervention in resolving waqf conflicts among conflicting parties in Kotagede, Yogyakarta. The research employs a qualitative approach with a phenomenological design to explore the lived experiences and perceptions of the involved stakeholders. The data consist of primary information obtained through in-depth interviews, field observations, and documentation of legal and administrative records, while secondary data are derived from waqf-related legal literature and institutional archives. Data were analyzed using a phenomenological reduction process, which includes epoché, horizontalization, and thematic synthesis to interpret the essence of the conflict and its resolution. The findings reveal that social-educational interventions, particularly mediation and community deliberation facilitated by religious and local leaders, play a crucial role in achieving peace and maintaining waqf sustainability. The study concludes that successful conflict resolution requires not only legal mechanisms but also educational and participatory approaches that strengthen legal awareness, empower nadzir, and enhance community trust in waqf institutions.
