Abstract

This study aims to examine the contribution of religious leaders in reducing stigma against PLWHA within Muslim communities in Cirebon City. The research employed a qualitative phenomenological method to capture the lived experiences of religious leaders, PLWHA, and other stakeholders. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and documentation conducted between March and May 2025. In total, 12 religious leaders, 10 PLWHA, three healthcare officers, and representatives from 2 local NGOs participated in the study. Observations were carried out in mosques, religious study groups, and health institutions across Cirebon City to understand the real practices of inclusive preaching and collaboration. The data were analyzed using the Colaizzi phenomenological approach, which involved identifying significant statements, formulating meanings, clustering themes, and validating findings through member checking. The research findings indicate that the presence of religious leaders plays a significant role in shaping a more open public view of PLWHA. Through an inclusive religious approach based on humanitarian values, religious leaders can act as drivers of social change that strengthen solidarity and eliminate the stigma inherent in PLWHA. Therefore, this study recommends the need for skills development and capacity building programs for religious leaders so that they can play an optimal role in efforts to eliminate HIV/AIDS stigma within Muslim communities.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze and transform Islamic Religious Education (PAI) teaching materials based on HOTS and religious moderation as a strategy for building adaptive, inclusive, and digitally literate Islamic character. The research method uses a qualitative-descriptive approach through interviews, observations, and document analysis at two PTKIS (Islamic Higher Education Institutions) in Pekanbaru. The results show that the implementation of HOTS-based learning activities, such as problem-based learning, digital collaboration, and contextual case studies, combined with the values of tolerance, justice, and balance, can increase critical awareness and moral reasoning of students. The transformation of Islamic Religious Education (PAI) teaching materials based on HOTS and religious moderation not only strengthens the relevance of Islamic education in the digital era but also contributes to the formation of a generation of faithful, knowledgeable, and moderate morals. Thus, this study emphasizes the need for transformation of the curriculum, learning strategies, and pedagogical competencies of Islamic Religious Education lecturers.

Abstract

This study aims to explore effective character education management strategies to address the negative impacts of social media use on adolescents. This research employed a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) to analyze studies on character education, digital citizenship, and social media, focusing on their impact on adolescents. A qualitative approach was used, synthesizing peer-reviewed journal articles, books, and conference papers published in the last five years from academic databases like Google Scholar, PubMed, and Scopus. Data collection involved selecting relevant studies based on specific keywords and predetermined criteria. The collected data were then analyzed through several stages: first, screening and classifying the selected literature; second, extracting key variables such as research focus, methodology, and outcomes; and third, performing a narrative synthesis to identify recurring themes, patterns, and gaps in current research. The results showed that integrating character education with digital citizenship education is crucial in equipping adolescents with the skills to interact positively online. Furthermore, the role of educators trained in technology and digital ethics is essential to help adolescents manage the psychological impacts of social media. The biggest challenge faced is the lack of a curriculum that explicitly integrates digital citizenship with character education. A phenomenon-based approach has proven effective in addressing this challenge by providing students with real-life experiences. In conclusion, digital-based character education can improve adolescents' skills in managing social media use more responsibly. This research makes an important contribution to the development of a more relevant educational curriculum in the digital era.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the mathematical thinking patterns of lower-grade elementary school students in solving numeracy problems from an epistemological perspective. The study employed a qualitative case study approach involving six third-grade students at SDN Purworejo, selected purposively based on variations in numeracy ability. Data were obtained from students’ numeracy problem-solving tasks, classroom observations, and semi-structured interviews, while secondary data were taken from school documents such as lesson plans and assessment records. The collected data were analyzed using thematic analysis following the Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña (2020) framework, consisting of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The results revealed three general patterns of mathematical thinking among students: intuitive, procedural, and emerging logical thinking. These findings indicate that most lower-grade students still rely on intuitive and procedural approaches, highlighting the need for learning strategies that promote conceptual understanding, multiple representations, and teacher scaffolding to strengthen early numeracy skills

Abstract

This study aims to explore the role of charismatic leadership in fostering cultural independence within Islamic boarding schools (pesantren), with a specific focus on Pondok Pesantren Nahdlatut Tholibin Blado Wetan in Probolinggo, Indonesia, under the leadership of KH. Ahsin Ahsanakallah. Islamic boarding schools are crucial in preserving cultural and religious values while adapting to modern challenges; however, their leadership often faces difficulties in balancing tradition and innovation. Using a qualitative case study approach, data were collected through semi-structured interviews with kiai, teachers, and students; participant observation; focus group discussions; and document analysis of pesantren archives and related literature. The data sources combine primary information from internal stakeholders and secondary materials from religious manuscripts and institutional documents. The analysis employed the Miles and Huberman model, consisting of data reduction, data display, and verification, complemented by triangulation to ensure validity. The research findings reveal that Kiai's leadership serves as a central figure in preserving the culture of the Islamic boarding school and guiding the students towards cultural independence. The study highlights that his leadership strategies, including internalising cultural values and mobilising community participation, strengthen the cultural autonomy of the Islamic boarding school. The Kiai acts as a "press agent" for the Islamic boarding school, using his public influence to enhance its visibility and reputation. This study contributes to the understanding of charismatic leadership in religious education and provides recommendations for enhancing leadership training in Islamic boarding schools, thereby preserving cultural heritage.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to explore a hypothetical model of religious character education based on the local wisdom of the Kuta Ciamis Indigenous Community by identifying: 1) Religious Core Values, 2) Value Internalization Methods, and 3) Dimensions of Character Education. This study employs a qualitative approach, utilizing ethnographic methods. The research data sources comprise both primary and secondary data, with data collection techniques including in-depth interviews with key informants, such as Traditional Leaders, Elders, Kuncen, and Youth Activists. Participatory observation by observing the socio-religious life of the Kuta Ciamis Indigenous Community, as well as documentation studies used by researchers, including community profile documents of Kuta Village, and archives of data on activities of the Kuta Ciamis Indigenous Community. Data analysis was conducted through reduction, data display, and conclusion. The results of the study show that: 1) the hypothetical model of religious character education is built on three main foundations of core values, namely, religious (monotheism, worship, morals), cultural (rituals, symbols, taboos), and socio-ecological (harmonious relationships between humans and others and nature). 2) Internalization and enculturation of contextual values, with the important role of families, traditional figures, religious figures, and social communities in shaping religious character. Religious values are internalized through role models, habituation, social control, and cultural narratives such as myths and ancestral wisdom. This model produces a holistic religious character that unites spiritual, moral, social, and ecological piety. Methodologically, this model confirms the effectiveness of community-based character education and local culture as an alternative paradigm for contextual and sustainable national character education. 3) The four main dimensions of religious character formation based on local wisdom are: spiritual, social, moral, and ecological.
