Abstract

Candi Belahan Village in Gempol District, Pasuruan Regency, possesses unique historical and cultural tourism potential that remains underutilized due to limited community awareness of tourism service standards. This community service program aimed to empower local tourism actors by implementing Sapta Pesona principles—safety, orderliness, cleanliness, coolness, beauty, friendliness, and memorable experiences—to enhance the quality of tourism services and strengthen destination management. The program was conducted from July to August 2025, utilizing a participatory training and mentoring approach that involved 30 local participants, including members of the Tourism Awareness Group (Pokdarwis), traders, and local guides. Activities consisted of preliminary assessment, training, field mentoring, and evaluation to encourage behavioral and environmental transformation. The results indicated a substantial increase in participants’ understanding and application of Sapta Pesona, with post-training assessments showing marked improvement in knowledge and service practices, along with enhanced cleanliness, orderliness, and the development of thematic photo spots reflecting local identity. Collaboration between the community, Pokdarwis, and the village government strengthened collective ownership and coordination in managing the tourism area. Overall, the program not only improved tourism service quality but also demonstrated a replicable model for community-based tourism development that may inform broader village tourism policies and future capacity-building initiatives.

Abstract

The empowerment program for the Batik Canting Cantik community in Pasuruan Regency aims to strengthen the productivity, competitiveness, and sustainability of traditional hand-drawn Batik through the implementation of green innovation. Using a Participatory Action Research (PAR) approach, the study involved 15 artisans over six months through a series of participatory activities, including training, co-design workshops, production trials, and evaluation sessions. Artisans were trained in eco-printing techniques that utilize environmentally friendly natural dyes as alternatives to synthetic dyes, which are known contributors to hazardous waste. Technological innovations such as the introduction of steamers and multifunctional Batik dryers were also implemented to accelerate production processes and reduce dependency on weather conditions. The results show a 50% increase in productivity, a significant reduction in drying time, improved color durability, and enhanced product quality. In addition, marketing capacity was strengthened through training in branding, innovative packaging design, and digital marketing, including the use of social media and online marketplaces, which contributed to a broader national and international market reach. Beyond economic impacts, the program also generated environmental and social benefits by raising awareness of natural resource conservation and promoting sustainable cultural production practices. These findings demonstrate that green innovation is effective in enhancing the competitiveness and long-term sustainability of Batik-based MSMEs.

Abstract

Nagari Aia Dingin, Solok Regency, has excellent agrotourism assets (Arabica coffee, horticulture, buffalo curd with intellectual property rights) but faces obstacles in the form of low human resource capacity and product processing standardization. This initiative aims to enhance the capacity of youth and the Women Farmers Group (KWT) through certified BNSP barista Training of Trainers (ToT), diversification of frozen horticultural products, and strengthening hygienic cheese production. The program integrates Participatory Action Research (PAR) for inclusive collaboration and Theory of Change (ToC) as a logical framework. Evaluation uses a Pre-Experimental Pre-Post Test design on 44 participants (24 youth and 20 KWT), supplemented by observation and FGD. The program's implementation successfully enhanced human resource capacity and infrastructure. Pre-post test results showed an average increase of 48% in technical knowledge and 110% in practical skills among the barista youth group. Vital infrastructure support (barista and frozen food equipment) from PT. PLN UID West Sumatra facilitated the adoption of technology. Socio-economically, the program successfully created BNSP-certified trainers and empowered KWT in processing value-added products, contributing to the achievement of SDGs 5 and 8. The integration of PAR and ToC proved effective in facilitating technology transfer and capacity building in a participatory manner, resulting in a dual impact: potential income growth and the strengthening of local cultural identity. This model is recommended as an adaptive replication model; however, longitudinal studies are necessary to analyze the long-term impacts.

Abstract

This community service initiative aims to strengthen the independence of coastal communities by optimizing local assets through the Asset-Based Community Development approach in Puteri Sembilan Village, North Rupat District, Bengkalis Regency, which has a mangrove forest potential of 307 hectares. The program aims to enhance the skills and interest of the community in sustainably managing mangrove resources. Through the participatory method, activities are carried out in four main stages: identification, asset mapping, capacity building, and collaborative training involving Raja Sofia MSME women's groups, Coastal Conservation Groups, and Fishermen's Groups. The focus of the program lies on the use of the Kedabu fruit (Sonneratia Ovata) as a product of mangrove forests to produce innovative food products with economic value. The results of the activity showed a significant increase in aspects of knowledge, ecological awareness, and community entrepreneurial motivation. Innovative products have been successfully developed, including dodol, syrup, and jams made from papabu fruit. Evaluation of service activity achievement is conducted through pretests using closed-ended questionnaire instruments. As a result, among 20 participants, there was a 55% increase in knowledge and interest in processing mangrove forest products. The findings confirm that the ABCD model is effective in building local capacity, increasing ecological awareness, and promoting the sustainable economic transformation of coastal communities based on their natural potential. The sustainability of the program demands cross-stakeholder collaboration on the village development agenda to ensure long-term impact.

Abstract

Holulai Village in Rote Ndao Regency is a coastal village with significant potential for seaweed cultivation. In 2024, the village produced 2,050 tons of dry seaweed, which serves as the economic backbone for many households. However, farmers face three major challenges: limited access to superior seedlings due to long-term reliance on aged cuttings, continued use of conventional off-bottom cultivation methods, and insufficient hygienic processing of seaweed-based products. To address these constraints, the Pemberdayaan Desa Binaan (PDB) program was implemented in collaboration with two farmer groups involving 40 active members. The program introduced the Anakonda Rote Net Method, combined with tissue–culture–derived seedlings, to enhance production performance and resilience. The results showed a substantial increase in seaweed biomass, with harvest weights rising from approximately 150–350 g per cultivation unit under conventional methods to 150–710 g using the Anakonda Rote Method, representing an increase of up to 100%. In addition, the program enabled farmers to diversify seaweed-based products into four hygienically processed variants (sticks, brownies, biscuits, and syrup), which increased product value and household income opportunities. Preliminary economic observations indicated reduced production losses due to pest attacks and improved post-harvest quality, which contributed to more stable incomes for participating households. Continuous mentoring and periodic monitoring are maintained to ensure the sustainability of seaweed cultivation and value-added processing in Holulai Village.

Abstract

The sustainable extraction of bioactive compounds from medicinal plants supports environmentally responsible practices in the pharmaceutical and nutraceutical industries. This study investigates the extraction behavior of Anredera cordifolia leaves using green solvents, with a focus on process optimization and kinetic modeling. A factorial design was used to evaluate the effects of temperature (25–60°C), solvent type (ethanol, methanol, water), pH (4, 7, 9), and time (10–90 minutes). Total phenolic content (TPC) and antioxidant activity were measured via spectrophotometry. Kinetic analysis revealed that the pseudo-second-order model provided the best fit to the data (R² > 0.98), indicating chemisorption as the dominant mechanism. Response Surface Methodology (RSM) identified optimal conditions at 59°C, 70% ethanol, pH 7, and 65 minutes, yielding 213.2 mg GAE/g DW TPC and 91.8% antioxidant activity. Compared to conventional methods, this approach improved yield by 21% and reduced solvent use by 30%. These results demonstrate the value of combining kinetic modeling with statistical optimization to create efficient, scalable, and low-impact extraction protocols. Importantly, the findings offer practical relevance for advancing Indonesia’s herbal industry and supporting the development of sustainable biotechnology in tropical regions.

Abstract

The Food Security Program in Kute Siantan District, Anambas Islands Regency, is a form of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) by Medco E&P Natuna Ltd. in support of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 2. This program aims to reduce the community's dependence on food supplies from outside the region by strengthening the capacity of local farmers in vegetable production. This study aims to analyze the livelihood capital of the community to formulate a sustainable livelihood strategy for farmer groups. The research employs a qualitative approach, utilizing ethnographic methods and document studies, which were conducted over approximately two months, from February to April 2025. Data were collected through participatory observation and in-depth interviews with 21 informants, comprising farmers, program assistants, and village officials. The results of the study indicate that farmers possess five main forms of capital: human, natural, social, physical, and financial capital, which still face numerous sustainability challenges. Based on the analysis, five strengthening strategies are recommended, namely: (1) determination of key farmers through measurable assessments to reduce dependence on companions; (2) the use of abandoned land and local organic matter as an alternative to inorganic fertilizers; (3) strengthening the value of cooperation in the activities of farmer groups; (4) maintenance and management of agricultural equipment collectively; and (5) market expansion and diversification of agricultural products. The strengthening of the five capitals is the foundation for the sustainable livelihood strategy of farmer groups, supporting the sustainability of the Food Security Program beyond the end of the CSR intervention.
