Abstract

This community service program aimed to enhance the entrepreneurial skills and economic independence of the Bahu Palawa Village community by training members of the Family Welfare Movement (PKK) to produce herbal lip balm using rambutan peel waste and kelulut honey. The program adopted a Participatory Action Research (PAR) approach, actively involving participants in each stage: basic entrepreneurship training, dissemination of information on the benefits of local ingredients, hands-on lip balm production, digital marketing, and packaging design. The training combined expository instruction, demonstrations, and practical activities to ensure comprehension and application. Evaluation was conducted using pretest-posttest instruments and Wilcoxon signed-rank statistical analysis. Results showed a significant increase in participants’ understanding of rambutan peel benefits (from 12 to 28 participants) and of kelulut honey (from 22 to 29 participants), as well as improved trust in the safety of herbal cosmetics (from 31 to 32 participants). Satisfaction surveys indicated high approval of the training materials and mentoring. The program successfully increased knowledge, skills, and awareness of local resource potential. Its impact includes fostering interest in transforming organic waste into economically valuable products, although continued mentoring is needed to support sustainable independent production.

Abstract

The community service activity was carried out as an effort to enhance the competence of physics teachers in Hulu Sungai Selatan Regency in designing contextual, innovative, and culturally rooted learning. The partner of this activity was the MGMP (Musyawarah Guru Mata Pelajaran) of physics, consisting of 22 teachers. This activity adopted the Participatory Action Research (PAR) method, involving teachers as active participants throughout the process.  The program was conducted through several stages, namely socialization, training, robotics practice, mentoring, and evaluation. This approach ensured that the solutions developed were relevant and aligned with the needs and capacities of the teachers. The medium used was ArtecRobo, which supports the application of technology-based learning. The results of the activity indicated an improvement in teachers’ understanding of integrating the Wasaka character—reflecting resilience and consistency—into physics learning through authentic experiences of assembling and programming robots. Teachers not only gained technical skills but also directly experienced how robotics can foster perseverance, collaboration, and problem-solving abilities. Participant responses were positive, with 87% of teachers stating the activity was highly beneficial and 80% reporting that they were motivated to implement it in their classrooms. The implication of this activity is the need for continuous mentoring and the provision of robotics facilities in schools so that the integration of Wasaka character can be optimized and support the achievement of 21st-century skills.

Abstract

This community service program aims to empower educators in Gayo Lues through improving digital literacy and utilizing local culture-based virtual tour technology. This program replicates the Langsa Multicultural Heritage Virtual Tour, an innovative learning tool previously developed through a research program. Based on the mapping of current conditions, the primary target group was 18 teachers from the Sekulen Private Elementary School. The educators were accompanied by 30 students from the Period II Community Service Program at Samudra University, who served as mentors. The method applied was a Participatory Action Research (PAR) Framework combined with Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD). This method involved participatory mapping to assess current conditions, collaborative workshops, co-creation of digital content, and classroom mentoring for implementation. As a result, technical skills, such as producing 360° photos as a basic element of virtual tours and developing them in Google Sites, can be mastered by teachers with the available resources. In addition, there was a significant increase in teachers' digital literacy scores from an average of 45.0 to 78.2 or 74%. The program's outputs include the Gayo Lues Heritage Virtual Tour platform, digital lesson plan modules, and improved teacher capacity for technology integration in learning. This activity has provided digital-based teaching materials that can be used in the classroom as well as the potential to help other sectors such as tourism and cultural heritage preservation.

Abstract

The partners of this community empowerment program are the Cultural Village Pioneer institution located in Wirokerten Village, Banguntapan District, Bantul Regency, Yogyakarta Special Region Province. Based on the Focus Group Discussion (FGD), two main problems of the Cultural Village Pioneer were found, namely 1) the lack of branding identity of Wirokeren Cultural Village, and 2) the digitalization management of the Wirokerten Cultural Village Pioneer is not yet optimal. This service uses the Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD) method, which consists of problem identification, program conceptualization, program implementation, monitoring & evaluation, and follow-up plans. In solving the problem, this stage has carried out two activities as follows: 1) Creation of a mascot as a village identity; and 2) Development of social media, particularly Instagram and Website, to optimize digital branding. The mascot designed is a representation of Tumenggung Wirokerti, a respected historical figure in the village, used as a symbol of courage and devotion. In addition, the digitization of Wirokerten Cultural Village was carried out by creating an Instagram account and website that showcase the village's cultural potential. The follow-up to this service program involves strengthening the identity of Wirokerten Cultural Village and increasing brand awareness through collaboration with local or national influencers.

Abstract

The rapid development of artificial intelligence (AI) has introduced new possibilities in education, particularly in English Language Teaching (ELT). This paper presents the outcomes of an AI-focused training program designed for English teachers at the elementary, junior high, and senior high school levels in Bitung City. The program aimed to enhance teachers’ understanding and practical ability in incorporating AI tools into both instructional and administrative tasks. This was a pilot program that involved 30 English teachers. The training employed the Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD) approach, which consisted of three key stages: (1) Identification of Community Potential and Strengths; (2) Development of the Assistance Program; and (3) Implementation of the Assistance Program. The findings indicate a notable improvement in the teachers' ability to utilize platforms such as ChatGPT, Gemini, and Wordwall, along with a boost in their confidence in adopting technology. Nonetheless, challenges such as inadequate infrastructure and limited post-training support remain significant obstacles. The study underscores the importance of ongoing and adaptable professional development to ensure the effective integration of AI into educational practices.

Abstract

This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of communication skills training through the Sekolah Perempuan RAKAT program in Banjar Regency, South Kalimantan. Many women in rural areas face challenges in public speaking, including limited mastery of effective communication techniques and low self-confidence. To address this issue, the program implemented a series of activities comprising registration, a pre-test, delivery of materials on effective communication, focus group discussions (FGDs), ice-breaking activities, experience-sharing sessions, a post-test, and closing activities. A total of 15 participants took part in the program. Data were collected through pre-test and post-test questionnaires and analyzed using the Shapiro–Wilk test for normality and the Wilcoxon signed-rank test to examine paired differences. The results showed that the data were not normally distributed (p < 0.05); therefore, the Wilcoxon test was applied. Statistical analysis indicated a significant increase in participants’ communication skills after the intervention (p<0.05). Qualitative findings also revealed improvements in participants’ understanding of communication strategies, active listening, empathetic responses, gender perspectives in communication, and the management of miscommunication. Furthermore, the experience-sharing sessions fostered mutual support and enhanced self-efficacy, contributing to increased confidence in public speaking. In conclusion, the Sekolah Perempuan RAKAT program effectively improved participants’ communication capacity and self-confidence. These findings highlight the importance of participatory and context-based approaches, such as FGDs, in empowering women to communicate more effectively in public spheres.

Abstract

Hypertension cases at the Mulyorejo Community Health Center, Deli Serdang Regency, continue to rise. The stress experienced by hypertensive patients with high blood pressure requires appropriate management. The community health center has implemented various health initiatives, but further efforts are needed. Therefore, efforts to reduce stress and blood pressure in hypertensive patients were crucial. This community service activity used a Participatory Action Research (PAR) approach to empower hypertensive patients through a progressive muscle relaxation intervention with classical music. Topics covered included understanding hypertension, stress, the relationship between stress and blood pressure, and the implementation of the progressive muscle relaxation intervention with classical music, packaged in a booklet. Before and after the intervention, community service personnel measured stress using the Subjective Units of Distress Scale (SUDS) and blood pressure using an Omron digital sphygmomanometer. The activity was conducted from June to July 2025. The target group was 40 adult hypertensive patients, divided into two groups of 20 participants each from Pujimulyo and Payageli Villages. Results: The Wilcoxon test showed a p-value of 0.0001 for stress and blood pressure, both systolic and diastolic. Participants responded positively to this intervention and will continue it at home. It can be concluded that progressive muscle relaxation intervention with classical music can significantly reduce stress and systolic and diastolic blood pressure in hypertensive patients. These findings indicate the need to integrate this intervention into routine programs at community health centers.

Abstract

Dharma Wanita members who work on campus from Monday to Friday experience boredom. Prolonged boredom will lead to stress at work. Constant stress can negatively impact mental or physical health. Another problem faced by Dharma Wanita members is a lack of income. The aim of this community service activity is twofold. First, teach a new hobby to reduce stress levels at work. Second, it gives participants the possibility to earn additional income. The implementation method used is training and mentoring. There are two main activities of PDWA. The first is training to decorate basic-level purun bags, and the second activity is training to decorate advanced-level purun bags. The first activity, Purun Bag Decoration Training for Women Members of Dharma Wanita, was held on Friday, August 23, 2024. This activity took place at the Sari Patin Depot, Jl. Brigadier General H. Hasan Basry Kayu Tangi. This activity went smoothly. The second stage of activity, namely Advanced Level training, will be held on October 18, 2024. The results of this activity are two. Participants feel relaxed and ultimately reduce stress at work. The second result is still potential because the process of a hobby becoming income takes a long time. From this activity, it can be concluded that most participants are able to decorate as they have been taught, but to become a source of income, they still need a lot of practice.
