Abstract

This study addresses the limited empirical investigations into the correlation between traditional Islamic learning models and student academic outcomes in higher education, specifically within the context of Islamic legal education. The purpose of this research was to analyze the relationship between the Bahtsul Masail method, learning motivation, and students’ understanding of Islamic law among fourth-semester students in the Ahwal al-Syakhsiyah program at IAIH NW Lombok Timur. A quantitative correlational approach was employed, involving a purposive sample of 53 students. Data were collected utilizing validated questionnaires and comprehension tests on Islamic law, subsequently analyzed through descriptive statistics and Pearson’s Product-Moment Correlation. The findings indicated that the implementation of the Bahtsul Masail method (M=78.5), students' learning motivation (M=81.2), and their understanding of Islamic law (M=76.4) all fell within the "high" category. Notably, significant positive correlations were identified between: (1) the Bahtsul Masail method and understanding of Islamic law; (2) learning motivation and understanding of Islamic law; and (3) the Bahtsul Masail method and learning motivation. These results highlight the necessity of integrating traditional pedagogical methods with motivational strategies to enhance educational outcomes in Islamic law programs. The study contributes to constructivist learning theory and Nurhayati’s motivational framework, illustrating how collaborative, context-rich learning experiences can promote deeper legal comprehension and academic motivation. The implications extend to curriculum development, teacher training, and instructional design, balancing classical Islamic approaches with contemporary educational needs. Future research should investigate longitudinal impacts, utilize mixed methods, and encompass additional Islamic law faculties to further elucidate this pedagogical synergy.

Abstract

Arabic language learning demands strong speaking skills, a broad vocabulary, self-confidence, and critical thinking abilities. However, traditional teaching methods often fall short in effectively developing these aspects. One promising innovative approach is the implementation of debate methods in Arabic language instruction. This study aims to analyze the impact of implementing the debate method on students’ speaking skills, vocabulary acquisition, self-confidence, and critical thinking abilities at the Foreign Language Development Institute. This research employed a qualitative approach, utilizing observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation for data collection. Data analysis was conducted through data reduction, data presentation, and inductive conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that the debate method significantly enhances students' speaking skills, enriches their use of technical vocabulary, boosts their self-confidence in speaking Arabic, and sharpens their critical and analytical thinking skills. Nevertheless, some challenges were identified, such as difficulties in recalling newly acquired vocabulary. The debate method has proven to be an effective strategy for comprehensively improving students' Arabic language proficiency. This study contributes to the development of an active, debate-based learning model in Arabic language education and recommends further exploration of debate implementation on a broader and more longitudinal scale.

Abstract

This study is motivated by the limited number of comprehensive quantitative investigations into the simultaneous relationship between parental attitudes and school literacy programs on students' reading interest at the elementary level, despite the fact that low reading interest has significant implications for students' lifelong academic potential and cognitive development. The aim of this study is to analyze the correlation between parental attitudes and school literacy initiatives, both individually and jointly, in relation to students’ reading interest at SDN Simpang Empat 3. A quantitative approach with a correlational design was used, involving 47 respondents selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using questionnaires and analyzed with bivariate correlation and multiple regression tests. The results show that parental attitude has a significant positive correlation with students’ reading interest (r = 0.462; p = 0.001 < 0.05), as does the school literacy movement (r = 0.422; p = 0.003 < 0.05). Simultaneously, both variables significantly contribute to students’ reading interest (R² = 0.349; p = 0.000 < 0.05), indicating that these two factors together explain 34.9% of the variation in reading interest, with the remaining influence attributed to other factors beyond the scope of this study. The main conclusion of this research is the importance of synergy between positive parental attitudes and effective implementation of school literacy programs in fostering students’ reading interest. The implications include the need to strengthen home-school collaboration and optimize literacy initiatives to support the development of a reading culture from an early age. This study also recommends further research to explore causal relationships and extend the generalizability of the findings across diverse educational contexts.

Abstract

This study investigates the implementation of the Make a Match cooperative learning model to address low student performance in the Fiqh subject at MTs Al-Irsyad 07 Batu, where 28% of students scored below the minimum competency threshold (KKM), largely due to the density of reading material. The research aims to explore the planning, implementation, and evaluation processes of the learning model, as well as the supporting and inhibiting factors influencing its effectiveness. Adopting a qualitative approach, data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation involving the Head of Madrasah, Deputy for Curriculum, Fiqh teachers, and students. Data were analyzed using an interactive model comprising data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that the planning process includes formulating learning objectives, selecting relevant materials, and preparing appropriate teaching strategies. Implementation occurs in three phases: preparation, instruction, and closure. Evaluation encompasses cognitive, affective, and psychomotor domains. The study concludes that the Make a Match method fosters an engaging learning environment that enhances students’ motivation and learning skills in Fiqh. The findings suggest that employing varied and interactive instructional strategies can improve learning outcomes and create a more dynamic classroom experience. These results offer practical implications for educators seeking to enhance instructional quality and student engagement in religious education.

Abstract

This study investigates the implementation of religious moderation in a multicultural school context, focusing on how SMP Negeri 1 Sanggau integrates these values into its educational environment. Motivated by the growing need to cultivate inclusive and tolerant attitudes among students, the research aims to explore the application of religious moderation values and examine institutional efforts to internalize these principles in daily school life. Employing a qualitative case study design, participants were selected through purposive sampling and included Islamic Religious Education teachers, school administrators, homeroom teachers, and student representatives. Data were collected through direct observation of both curricular and extracurricular activities, unstructured interviews, and analysis of the school’s social media content. The findings reveal that the school promotes religious moderation through a universal values-based approach, specifically drawing from Diane Tillman’s Living Values Education (LVE) framework. Core values such as tolerance, peace, cooperation, and unity are not only incorporated into classroom instruction but are also embedded in school-wide practices, including interfaith celebrations, local wisdom projects, and the routine cultivation of inclusive attitudes. The study concludes that the integration of universal character values provides an effective foundation for fostering religious moderation without privileging any particular religious identity. This approach offers practical implications for the development of character education models in multicultural educational settings.
