Abstract

This study aims to explore and compare the patterns of implementing differentiated instruction in two elementary schools, namely SDN 15 Parit Bintang and SDN 05 Sungai Paduan. The background of this research is based on the demands of 21st-century education, which require learning to be adaptive to the diverse characteristics of students. This study employed a qualitative approach with a descriptive comparative design. Data were collected through participant observation, semi-structured interviews, and document analysis, involving school principals and teachers as participants. Data analysis was conducted using the interactive model of Miles and Huberman, including data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing, while data validity was ensured through source and technique triangulation. The findings reveal that the implementation of differentiated instruction at SDN 05 Sungai Paduan is more systematic and integrated compared to SDN 15 Parit Bintang. SDN 05 Sungai Paduan has implemented diagnostic assessment, a variety of instructional strategies, differentiation of process and product, as well as continuous formative assessment. In contrast, SDN 15 Parit Bintang still demonstrates partial implementation, characterized by uniform learning practices, limited mapping of students’ needs, and less varied use of strategies and learning media. These findings indicate that the success of differentiated instruction is highly influenced by teachers’ pedagogical readiness and the support of the school system. Therefore, strengthening teacher competencies and institutional support is necessary to create adaptive, inclusive, and student-centered learning.

Abstract

This study was motivated by the phenomenon of student truancy—specifically unauthorized absences, leaving class during lessons, and missing learning activities without a valid reason. Such behavior can negatively impact students' academic achievement, discipline, sense of responsibility, and social development. The study aimed to determine the effectiveness of group counseling using the behavior contracting technique in reducing truancy among Grade XI students at MAN 1 Lebak during the 2025/2026 academic year. A quantitative approach was employed using the Single-Subject Research (SSR) method with an A-B-A design, comprising an initial baseline phase (A1), an intervention phase (B), and a second baseline phase (A2). Seven students participated in the study, selected via purposive sampling based on questionnaire results indicating high levels of truancy. Data analysis involved visual analysis—both within and across conditions—supported by N-Gain calculations. The results showed overlap values of 29% for subjects FI, H, and YY, and 0% for subjects KJES, HR, RAF, and MR during the A1-B transition. In the B-A2 transition, all subjects exhibited an overlap value of 0%, indicating consistent behavioral change following the intervention. Furthermore, all subjects showed improved behavioral scores—signifying a reduction in truancy—evidenced by fewer unauthorized absences, a decrease in the habit of leaving class during lessons, and increased discipline and adherence to school regulations. Thus, group counseling utilizing the behavior contracting technique is effective in reducing truancy among Grade XI students at MAN 1 Lebak.

Abstract

Based on the preliminary analysis, low student learning outcomes on the food chain topic were caused by the use of less varied learning models and teacher-centered learning. This condition resulted in low student participation during the learning process, leading to unsatisfactory learning outcomes. Therefore, this study aimed to improve the learning outcomes of fifth-grade students on the food chain topic through the implementation of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model assisted by Pop Up Book media. This study employed the Classroom Action Research (CAR) method, which was conducted in two cycles. Each cycle consisted of two meetings involving the stages of planning, action, observation, and reflection. The subjects of this study were 17 fifth-grade students of SDN Tamansari 1. Data were collected through learning outcome tests administered in each cycle to determine students’ improvement after the implementation of the action. The results showed a continuous improvement in students’ learning outcomes in each cycle. In the pre-test, only 3 students (17.65%) achieved mastery learning, while 14 students (82.35%) did not meet the minimum mastery criteria. In Cycle I, the number of students who achieved mastery increased to 8 students (47.06%), while 9 students (52.94%) had not yet achieved mastery. These results had not met the classical mastery criterion of 75% set by the school. In Cycle II, learning outcomes improved significantly, with 16 students (94.12%) achieving mastery and only 1 student (5.88%) not yet achieving mastery. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that the implementation of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model assisted by Pop Up Book media effectively improved the learning outcomes of fifth-grade students on the food chain topic at SDN Tamansari 1.

Abstract

Learning models constitute the conceptual framework that determines the direction and quality of the teaching and learning process in the classroom. At the elementary school level, selecting the appropriate learning model is a critical factor in realizing the goals of the Freedom to Learn Curriculum (Kurikulum Merdeka), which is oriented toward the holistic development of the Pancasila Student Profile. This article aims to comprehensively review various learning models relevant to the elementary school curriculum context, encompassing: (1) conventional learning models and their enduring relevance; (2) innovative constructivist-based learning models, including Cooperative Learning, Problem-Based Learning (PBL), and Project-Based Learning (PjBL); and (3) competency-based learning approaches within the Kurikulum Merdeka framework. The study was conducted through systematic literature review of scientific sources from SINTA-accredited journals and educational reference books published between 2006 and 2024. The findings indicate that no single learning model is universally superior across all conditions. Each model possesses distinct theoretical foundations, implementation procedures, strengths, and limitations depending on the learning context. An effective elementary school teacher is one who possesses broad pedagogical literacy capable of reading classroom characteristics and selecting and combining learning models appropriately and adaptively. This article is expected to serve as a useful academic reference for PGSD students and elementary education practitioners in developing their pedagogical competence.
