Abstract

Skin aging is a natural process influenced by intrinsic and extrinsic factors. This process often leads to various skin problems, including wrinkles, sagging, and hyperpigmentation. One of the main triggers of skin aging is oxidative stress, which produces reactive species oxygen (ROS) that can damage various components of the skin. Temulawak, locally known as Curcuma xanthorrhiza Roxb., has been traditionally used in Indonesia for various skin health conditions due to its antioxidant, antibacterial, and anti-aging properties. This research aims to create a new formula of peel-off gel mask from temulawak extract and evaluate the preparation. Two formulations were made, with the second formulation modified by adding the fragrance oleum rosae to reduce the aroma of temulawak. Evaluation was conducted through a series of tests, including The results showed differences between the two formulations, especially in the organoleptic test where Formula 2 experienced changes in color and aroma. However, other parameters were relatively similar between the two formulations. The developed peel-off gel mask has the potential to improve skin health, further research is needed to understand product acceptance by the public, using approaches such as hedonic testing. This will help in developing products that are more suitable for consumer needs and preferences.

Abstract

Urinary Tract Infection (UTI) is an infectious disease that ranks second after respiratory tract infections, with a total of 8.1 million cases per year. The cause of UTI lies in the presence of microorganisms in the urinary tract, including the bladder, prostate, kidneys, and collecting ducts. Bacterial microorganisms are the primary cause of UTI. Generally, Urinary Tract Infection (UTI) is caused by common human flora and symbiotic life around the vaginal introitus, penile prepuce, perineum, and the surrounding anus. This study aims to identify bacterial types, treatment methods, and antibiotic sensitivity in urinary tract infections. The chosen method for this research is a narrative review of scientific studies related to urinary tract infections. Data sources were obtained from Google Scholar, ScienceDirect, and PubMed. The research articles used include 5 journals related to UTI bacterial patterns, 7 journals related to UTI therapy patterns, and 4 journals related to antibiotic sensitivity in UTI patients. Based on the analysis of bacterial patterns, Escherichia coli bacteria are the most common cause of UTI. Antibiotic therapy patterns can be used in the treatment of Urinary Tract Infection. The analysis of antibiotic sensitivity indicates that ciprofloxacin and gentamicin have the highest sensitivity to UTI.

Abstract

The most effective therapeutic management in schizophrenia patients is antipsychotic therapy. Antipsychotic groups are divided into two categories: first-generation and second-generation antipsychotics. Antipsychotic administration can cause side effects such as extrapyramidal symptoms. This study aims to determine the effect of giving a combination of antipsychotics on the side effects of extrapyramidal syndrome in hospitalized schizophrenia patients at Sambang Lihum Mental Hospital. This study employed a non-experimental observational analytic approach with prospective data collection. The study population consisted of all schizophrenia patients who were hospitalized between January and February 2022. The sample size was 122 patient medical records, obtained through purposive sampling. The instruments used to measure the variables included respondent characteristics (age, gender, latest education, occupation, marital status, history of diagnosis, and history of extrapyramidal syndrome) and the incidence of extrapyramidal syndrome side effects, which were documented in essays written by the researcher. The data analysis employed univariate (frequency, percentage) and bivariate (chi-square test) techniques. The results of the study yielded a description of the administration of antipsychotic combinations in hospitalized schizophrenia patients at Sambang Lihum Mental Hospital. The most prevalent combination was the Atypical-Typical combination, which was administered to 58.2% of patients. There were no instances of extrapyramidal syndrome side effects from the administration of a combination of antipsychotics, with 86.9% of patients experiencing no adverse effects. The administration of a combination of antipsychotics does not appear to affect the incidence of extrapyramidal syndrome in schizophrenic patients.

Abstract

The rice field snail (Pila ampullaceae) is a member of the gastropod class commonly found in freshwater habitats and possesses a hard shell that protects its soft body. The shell of the rice field snail is known to be rich in CaCO3 compounds. In this study, the shell of the rice field snail is formulated into toothpaste as an abrasive material. Toothpaste is a semi-solid preparation that functions to remove dirt from the surface of teeth and maintain dental health. This study aims to determine the effect of hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC) concentration on the physical and hedonic properties of toothpaste based on rice field snail shell (Pila ampullaceae). Using a one shot case study design, three toothpaste samples with different HPMC concentrations, namely 3%, 4%, and 5%, were evaluated. The preparation evaluation included various physical property tests, such as organoleptic tests, homogeneity, pH, spreadability, viscosity, and foam height, as well as hedonic tests. The results of the study showed that variations in HPMC concentration affected several physical properties, including odor, spreadability, viscosity, and foam height. Among the three formulas tested, Formula 3 with a 5% HPMC concentration was the most preferred by respondents.
