Abstract

Limited access to adequate physics laboratory facilities remains a major challenge in Indonesian schools, including SMAN 1 Mamasa, where conventional physics learning often lacks hands-on experiments. To address this issue, this study was conducted as part of a Community Service (PkM) activity, providing training and mentoring on the use of The Physics Aviary (TPA) virtual laboratory for eleventh-grade students. The activity employed Community-Based Research (CBR) and Service Learning approaches, enabling students to actively participate in meaningful learning experiences while contributing to the community. A total of 34 students (20 females, 14 males) participated in the program, which was conducted from July to August 2025. Data on learning motivation and self-regulated learning (SRL) were collected using validated questionnaires and analyzed descriptively. The results indicate that the virtual laboratory effectively fostered students’ intrinsic motivation, with the highest scores observed in intrinsic goal orientation (mean = 4.12, SD = 0.95) and task value (mean = 4.06, SD = 0.89). Additionally, SRL skills were reflected in high scores for time and study environment management (mean = 4.06, SD = 0.81) and peer learning (mean = 3.91, SD = 0.99). Student satisfaction with the training was also high, demonstrating successful implementation. This PkM activity not only introduced TPA in the local school context but also provided initial empirical evidence that virtual labs can serve as effective alternatives for fostering motivation and self-regulation in secondary physics education. However, the findings highlight the need to strengthen metacognitive and collaborative learning aspects.

Abstract

Service learning in biomonitoring is urgent as it links science with community action to tackle river health issues.. This research aims to explore the application of service learning in enhancing students' knowledge and their ability to carry out river health biomonitoring projects. The study involved students in implementing the service learning curriculum through stages of planning, execution, reflection, and assessment. During the planning phase, students participated in developing the module. The results indicated that the biomonitoring module received a quality score of 3.8, with clarity of content and factual accuracy achieving the highest scores (4.0). The service learning program was conducted through the establishment of ECOFOREST groups, training sessions, and the application of action plans within the community. The effectiveness was measured using a one-group pretest-posttest design, which revealed a significant improvement in student understanding (t(22) = 2.45, p < 0.05). These findings confirm that service learning not only enhances student engagement in the community but also contributes to their technical competency development. This study addresses the gap in literature regarding service learning within more practical experiential learning frameworks in higher education. The result implies that there has been an increase of knowledge among the participants.

Abstract

Underprivileged women in Indonesia face various challenges in developing their businesses, including limited access to education, technology, markets, and financial services. The mentoring program initiated by Bank Syariah seeks to address these challenges by positioning facilitators as strategic partners. In this context, the primary subjects of empowerment are underprivileged women striving to enhance their entrepreneurial capacity, while facilitators act as agents of change who provide guidance, motivation, and serve as bridges to knowledge and technology. The community service method employed is Participatory Action Research (PAR), with activities conducted in Boyolali Regency, Central Java. This method emphasizes the active involvement of participants from the stages of problem identification, planning, and implementation to evaluation. Mentoring activities were carried out through interviews, participatory observation, entrepreneurship workshops, hands-on practice, and joint reflection sessions. This participatory approach ensures that the real needs of underprivileged women form the foundation for designing materials, methods, and empowerment strategies. The results of the program indicate that the mentoring successfully improved participants’ entrepreneurial skills, particularly in financial management, digital promotion, and business identity development. Indicators of success were also reflected in changes in participants’ attitudes and motivation to manage their businesses independently, increased confidence in marketing products, and greater business visibility through social media. The role of facilitators, who not only delivered materials but also served as motivators, companions, and social change agents, proved to accelerate this transformation. Thus, effective mentoring requires facilitators to master public communication skills, time management, and digital technology to ensure the sustainability of underprivileged women’s business independence.

Abstract

This activity aims to revitalise the role of Madrasah Tsanawiyah (MTs) teachers in improving the effectiveness of learning, caregiving, and counselling services through a genetic intelligence approach. The study was conducted at MTs Madrasatul Qur’an Tebuireng Jombang as part of a Community Service Programme (PKM). Observations and interviews identified three main problems: (1) 19 out of 21 teachers experienced difficulties in implementing differentiated learning due to challenges in recognising students’ characteristics; (2) student conflicts in the form of violence or bullying were not handled optimally; and (3) 4 out of 5 counselling teachers had not yet fully understood students’ potential and problems. The intervention was carried out through training in genetic intelligence based on the STIFIn intelligence model and learning strategies tailored to students’ characteristics. This community service programme consisted of (1) Genetic Intelligence Training, and (2) Learning Strategy Training. Experimental quantitative statistical tests through pre-test and post-test results showed a significant improvement in teachers’ understanding, with an average post-test score increase of 15% in genetic intelligence training and 19% in learning strategy training. The training had a positive impact on enhancing teachers’ competences in (a) recognising students’ potential and learning styles, (b) resolving student conflicts, and (c) providing more targeted and effective counselling services. Furthermore, this approach can be disseminated to other similar educational institutions.

Abstract

The low level of understanding and skills among MSME actors in building product branding is one of the factors weakening business competitiveness, especially in terms of visual identity and packaging. This has the potential to hamper business continuity. This condition is experienced by the UPPKS Lestari Jaya group in Bantul, Yogyakarta, most of whose businesses do not yet have logos, packaging designs, or focused branding strategies, making it difficult for them to compete in a wider market. This community service program aims to improve the capacity of MSME players in designing products and services with selling value. The implementation methods include needs analysis, practice-based training, mentoring, and evaluation. The activity was attended by 20 business actors with business categories including processed foods, fashion products, and household services. The program results showed that all participants successfully produced branding outputs in the form of 20 business logos, product packaging designs, and visual identities that matched the characteristics of their respective businesses. The evaluation of the results showed an increase in the visual quality of the businesses in terms of brand identity clarity, design suitability, and visual appeal. This community service program has had an impact on improving the readiness of partner MSMEs to market their products and services more competitively and has become the basis for sustainable business development.

Abstract

This community engagement program was implemented by a team of lecturers and students from Darma Cendika Catholic University in collaboration with PERWAKOS (the Surabaya Association of Transgender Women). The program aimed to promote economic empowerment among transgender women by identifying entrepreneurial potential, examining structural barriers, and formulating realistic recommendations for sustainable livelihood development. The findings indicate that all participants expressed strong interest in engaging in small-scale entrepreneurial activities, particularly in the beauty, retail, and culinary sectors. However, this interest was constrained by several challenges, including limited financial literacy, lack of prior business experience, low levels of intra-community trust, and persistent social stigma. The program produced several tangible outputs, including a documented needs assessment involving 20 community members, the identification of priority business sectors, and consensus-based recommendations for future capacity-building initiatives. Based on these findings, the program recommends that subsequent community engagement efforts prioritize basic financial management training, structured business plan development, and psychosocial support to enhance self-confidence and collective commitment. In addition, facilitating access to inclusive microfinance schemes and strengthening partnerships with supportive institutions are essential to addressing structural barriers. Overall, this program demonstrates that context-sensitive community engagement can serve as an effective foundation for fostering economic self-reliance and organizational strengthening within marginalized transgender communities.

Abstract

This community service program was implemented at the Sabilus Salam Sharia Cooperative, Notorejo Hamlet, Wonosalam District, Jombang Regency, East Java. It involved 25 farmers and 10 cooperative members, and was facilitated by a service team consisting of four lecturers and one master’s (S2) student. The uniqueness of this program lies in the utilization of kascing (earthworm castings) based on the local wisdom of Wonosalam, integrated with the use of local organic waste and the strengthening of cooperative institutions through a Participatory Action Research (PAR) approach. This distinguishes the program from conventional organic fertilizer training, which is typically one-directional. The objective of the activity was to enhance farmers’ capacity to produce and apply both liquid and solid organic fertilizers based on kascing, in order to reduce dependence on chemical fertilizers and improve soil quality. The methods employed included socialization, participatory training, field assistance, and experimental demonstration plots. Standardized laboratory test results indicated an increase in soil pH from 3.25 to 5.42, organic carbon (C-organic) from 0.23% to 0.53%, as well as improvements in the levels of nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium. Post-training evaluation showed that 84% of participants understood the stages of kascing fertilizer production, and 72% had applied it on their respective farms. Overall, the program proved effective in measurably improving soil quality and strengthening the independence of farmers and the cooperative in developing sustainable agriculture based on local resources..

Abstract

Bulungcangkring Village in Jekulo District, Kudus Regency, has strong agricultural potential, with most residents working as farmers. Some have begun cultivating non-rice commodities such as pumpkin and purple sweet potato, which offer opportunities for value-added processing and increased income. KUB Elbina, a 20-member local enterprise group, focuses on processing these agricultural products, especially pumpkin flour. However, the group faces technological limitations, particularly in post-harvest drying, which is still done through open sun drying. This method requires ±24 hours, yields only ~70%, depends heavily on weather, and poses contamination risks from dust, insects, and microorganisms, resulting in inconsistent product quality, including non-uniform flour color. This community service program implements an IoT-based Ecobox Smart Dryer as an appropriate technology to improve processing efficiency and product quality using a Participatory Action Research (PAR) approach. Activities include problem identification, equipment installation, training, production assistance, and evaluation. The results show significant improvements: drying time reduced to ±8 hours, yield increased to ~90%, moisture content stabilized at ≤10%, and flour color became more uniform. The program outputs include a fully functioning Smart Dryer, enhanced production capacity, improved product quality, and strengthened operator skills.

Abstract

This Community Service Program was implemented at SMKS Bumi Moro, Pulau Morotai Regency, a school located in a frontier, outermost, and underdeveloped (3T) region. The school was selected due to its limited telecommunication infrastructure, which has significantly constrained the implementation of digital learning. An initial survey revealed that the school relied on a single unstable internet access point, had only 12 active computers for approximately 180 students, and most teachers lacked experience in independently operating a Learning Management System (LMS). These conditions highlighted the urgent need for technological intervention. The program adopted a Participatory Action Research (PAR) approach consisting of four stages: (1) needs analysis through online surveys and interviews with the school principal and 20 teachers; (2) design and implementation of a local Content Delivery Network (CDN) integrated with Starlink-based internet connectivity; (3) training and mentoring on Moodle LMS utilization and the introduction of Artificial Intelligence (AI) applications in learning; and (4) evaluation of program effectiveness. The training involved 30 participants, including 20 teachers and 10 educational staff members. Evaluation using a Likert-scale questionnaire (1–5) showed that 70% of participants were very satisfied and 30% were satisfied, with average scores ranging from 4.6 to 4.9. Post-program observations indicated improved teacher capacity in managing digital classes, conducting online assessments, and utilizing stable internet access. Overall, the program successfully strengthened digital learning infrastructure and teacher competence, offering a replicable model for other schools in 3T regions in Indonesia.

Abstract

This community service program addresses a critical gap: low tax compliance among culinary micro and small enterprises (MSMEs) in Malang City, which restricts access to finance and weakens local revenue. We aimed to improve bookkeeping literacy and tax compliance through an integrated intervention—classroom instruction (tax fundamentals), hands-on simple bookkeeping, guided use of a tax application (Coretax), and mentoring—for 15 MSME owners. Effectiveness was assessed using pre–post knowledge tests, observation checklists of bookkeeping practices, and application usage logs as compliance indicators. Results show a marked increase in knowledge and self-efficacy (mean Likert score 2.7→4.2). Adoption of basic/digital bookkeeping improved: 85% of participants began daily transaction recording and separated business–personal finances. Most participants were able to compute and file taxes using the application, and post-training compliance reached 66.7% (10 of 15) based on verified filings within the evaluation period. The bookkeeping model promoted includes a daily cash book, separation of business and personal accounts, and simple records of inventory and production costs as the basis for tax calculation. These findings indicate that coupling financial literacy with accessible technology can shift administrative behavior and improve compliance. Replication should include follow-up mentoring and partnerships with local authorities to sustain results
