Abstract

This study aimed to examine the relationship between learning styles, learning independence, and learning interest with biology learning outcomes among Grade X students at SMA Negeri 5 Palu. This research used a quantitative approach with a correlational method. A total of 176 students were selected using proportional random sampling. The instruments used were questionnaires and documentation of biology scores. Data analysis involved validity tests, reliability tests, normality tests, Pearson correlation, and multiple linear regression. The results showed a significant relationship between learning style (r = 0.668), learning independence (r = 0.747), and learning interest (r = 0.732) with biology learning outcomes (p < 0.05). Multiple regression analysis revealed that the three variables simultaneously influenced learning outcomes, with the regression equation Y = 9.771 + 0.502X₁ + 0.314X₂ + 0.357X₃ and R² = 0.656. This indicates that the three independent variables contribute 65.6% to the variance in biology learning outcomes. The findings highlight the importance of internal student characteristics in academic achievement, especially in biology learning.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the integration of environmental education into Biology learning and its contribution to enhancing students' ecological consciousness. This research employed a literature review method by analyzing 35 scientific articles published between 2019 and 2024 from accredited national journals and reputable international journals. The findings indicate that integrating environmental education through strategies such as project-based learning, the use of local ecosystems as learning resources, and the reinforcement of ecological values in Biology content can significantly improve students’ environmental literacy, conservation attitudes, and participation in real environmental actions. In addition, the integration of disaster risk reduction education into Biology lessons is essential in equipping students with adaptive skills to face increasing natural hazards. However, challenges such as limited teacher competence, insufficient resources, and lack of institutional support remain significant obstacles. Therefore, strengthening teacher capacity and developing contextual environment- and disaster-based teaching materials are key recommendations. This review confirms that integrating environmental and disaster education into Biology instruction is a strategic approach to fostering ecologically aware, resilient, and responsible learners.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the horizontal distribution of birds based on habitat type, namely fish ponds, rehabilitated mangroves, and natural mangroves, located in the Bagek Kembar Mangrove Area. Observations were conducted in June-July at the Bagek Kembar Mangrove Area, Sekotong. This research uses a transect method, following the paths found at three observation locations. Bird observations were conducted twice, in the morning (06:30-09:30 WITA) and evening (15:30-18:30 WITA). The results recorded 57 species, with the dominant habitat for finding bird species being the natural mangrove area, which has a fairly dense and diverse vegetation structure. The horizontal distribution of birds in the Bagek Kembar Mangrove Area is illustrated using CANOCO for Windows 4.5 with a PCA (Principal Component Analysis) diagram. This study concludes that bird diversity is higher in natural mangrove habitats compared to fishpond and rehabilitated mangrove habitats, making this area important for supporting conservation and the development of birdwatching ecotourism.

Abstract

This study was conducted to compare the effectiveness of two planting locations (pond and riverside zone) and two seedling sources (propagule and naturally sourced seedlings) on the growth of the mangrove species Bruguiera sexangula, which is not endemic to the study site. The research employed a quantitative experimental method. The results of this study show that the source of propagule-derived seedlings has a very significant effect on plant growth. Statistically, propagule-derived seedlings produced significantly better growth in all parameters (height, diameter, number of leaves, and root length) compared to naturally sourced seedlings. Meanwhile, the factors of planting location (pond and riverside zone) and treatment combination did not show statistically significant differences. Although descriptively the riverside zone location gave better results in some parameters, the differences were not strong enough to prove that certain locations or treatment combinations were superior to others. The conclusion of this study confirms that in mangrove rehabilitation efforts in non-endemic areas, the selection of seedling propagule sources is an important factor in achieving successful growth.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the growth of Rhizophora apiculata in the silvofishery system in Simpang Tiga Jaya Village, Tulung Selapan District, Ogan Komering Ilir Regency, South Sumatra Province. The research was conducted to compare the effects of two planting locations—pond and riparian areas—and two types of seed sources, namely propagules and natural wildings, on the growth and survival rate of Rhizophora apiculata. A quantitative experimental method was used, with observations conducted over 4 month on variables such as plant height, stem diameter, number of leaves, root length, and root weight. The results showed that seedlings originating from propagules exhibited higher growth rates and survival percentages compared to wilding seedlings. The highest survival rate was observed in treatment M2S2 (riparian location + propagules) at 76.67%, followed by M1S2 (pond location + propagules) at 72.22%. Soil analysis revealed that the pond location had higher nutrient content, thus supporting more optimal plant growth. Overall, the source of seedlings was identified as the main factor contributing to the successful rehabilitation of Rhizophora apiculata within the silvofishery system.

Abstract

The study aims to determine the potential of nipa palms in Simpang Tiga Abadi Village, to analyze the financial feasibility of the nipa cookie business, and to assess the non-financial aspects of the nipa flour cookie business in the same area. This study employs both qualitative and quantitative approaches. The qualitative approach examines non-financial aspects such as legal, socioeconomic, market, and management factors through interviews, while the quantitative approach analyzes the potential of nipa palms and the financial aspects of the nipa flour cookie business through calculations of clump density, flour yield, income, Revenue Cost Ratio (R/C), and Break Even Point (BEP). The results show that one hectare of nipa stands produces approximately 3.98 tons of nipa flour, indicating that the natural availability of nipa flour is sufficient for the Kelompok Tani Usaha Bintang Ratu (Bintang Ratu Farmers Group). The financial feasibility analysis indicates that the nipa flour cookie business managed by the group is profitable and viable. The non-financial aspects—including legal, socioeconomic, management, and human resources—are also favorable, suggesting that the business has good potential for future development, except for the market and marketing aspects, which remain a limitation for the group in promoting their products to stores.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the production potential and quality of forest honey (Apis dorsata) in the Mangrove Forest Reserve of Sungai Lumpur, Ogan Komering Ilir Regency, South Sumatra. The research was conducted through field surveys and laboratory analyses. The parameters observed included honey production potential, moisture content, ash content, reducing sugars, sucrose, acidity, and heavy metal concentrations. The results showed that forest honey production significantly increased during the harvest season, contributing to a 30–35% higher income compared to normal conditions. Laboratory tests indicated that the honey had a moisture content of 26.4% (exceeding the SNI 8664:2018 standard), ash content of 0.18% (within standard), reducing sugars of 64.4% (slightly below the minimum 65%), sucrose of 0% (within standard), acidity of 20.3 ml NaOH/kg (within standard), and heavy metal levels (Pb, Cd, Hg, As, Sn) below permissible limits. Therefore, forest honey from this mangrove reserve has considerable economic potential for local communities, but improvements in harvesting, processing, and storage techniques are required to ensure compliance with quality standards.

Abstract

This study aims to examine and analyze the effects of pond planting sites and riparian area planting sites on the growth and development of Bruguiera gymnorrhiza seedlings, as well as to evaluate the survival and growth performance of seedlings originating from propagules compared to those naturally collected from the wild. A quantitative experimental method was employed in this research. The research data were analyzed using ANOVA. The findings indicate that the growth performance of Bruguiera gymnorrhiza seedlings in pond planting sites was superior to that in riparian planting sites with respect to plant height, stem diameter, number of leaves, and root length. Furthermore, seedlings derived from propagules demonstrated better growth outcomes compared to those collected from the wild, particularly in terms of plant height, stem diameter, number of leaves, root development, and survival rate.

Abstract

This study aimed to identify the relationship between floret length and the developmental stages of microspores in banana male inflorescence (Musa spp. cv. Tanduk), and to determine the optimal floret size range as an explant source for initiating microspore culture. Ten bract layers were analyzed, with five florets randomly selected from each layer and measured for their length. Anthers were extracted from each floret, crushed in sterile water, and observed microscopically using a wet mount preparation. The results revealed a strong correlation between floret length and microspore developmental stages. Microspores at the late uninucleate (vacuolated) to early bicellular stages were consistently found in florets ranging from 4.68 to 4.34 cm in length. Based on these findings, florets within the 4.60 to 4.00 cm range are recommended as the optimal size for microspore culture initiation, as they contain a higher proportion of developmentally competent microspores for embryogenesis induction. In conclusion, this study provides essential morphological and cytological criteria to support efficient explant selection for in vitro regeneration of banana through the microspore culture approach.
