Abstract

Ibuprofen is a part of the Non Steroid Anti-Inflamatory Drug (NSAID) that serves as the treatment of pain or inflammation. Ibuprofen is a part of biopharmaceutical classification system (BCS) class II drug with the characteristics of low solubility and high permeability. Solid dispersion may increase solubility. Ibuprofen has a variety of side effects so it need to be made into other routes of administration such as topical. This study was conducted to understand the effect of combinations of carbopol as the gelling agent and glycerin as a penetration enhancer compound to the physical quality and the release of active substances also to determine the optimum formula. This study used simplex lattice design method with two factors which is carbopol and glycerin in formula 1 ; formula 2 ; formula 3 in sequence 100%:0% ; 50%:50% ; 0%:100%. The solid dispersion was made by the melting method, then was tested with FTIR and then was made into a solid dispersion gel of ibuprofen-PEG 6000. The release of substance was tested using franz diffusion cell through a cellophane membrane, then the optimum formula was determined based on the counterplot from Design Expert 10.0.1 trial version with critical parameters of adhesion, viscosity, and penetration of substance. The result of the study showed that carbopol and glycerin affecting the physical quality and the release of a drug in a gel. Glycerin has more impact to the release of the drug. The proportion of carbopol 1,011% and glycerin 7,389% produce the optimum formula with the most excellent physical quality and the release of the drug.

Abstract

Abstract

Cod-liver oil emulsion in standard formula using gum arabic as emulsifying agent is considered to be “true” emulsifier. The disadvantage of gum arabic is it cannot be stored in along time because the emulsifier effect will vanish, so it has to be combined with other emulsifying agent such as CMC and Tween 80. The aim of the experiment was to study the influence of CMC and Tween 80 emulsifiers combination on physical stability of cod liver oil emulsion and the optimal concentration of CMC and Tween 80 emulsifiers to prepare a stable cod liver oil emulsion, indicated by there was no significant damage of the emulsion during the experiment. The experiment used 4 formulas which contain emulsifiers combinations: 0,25% CMC; 0,25% CMC : 10% Tween 80; 0,25% CMC : 20% Tween 80; 20% Tween 80. The observation of emultion stability includes emulsion type, separation percentage at room temperature, at 40° - 50°C temperature, at 3000 rpm centrifugally, viscosity and particle size determination. The result of the experiment indicated there was various stability of cod liver oil emulsion in each emulsifier combination. The statistic result indicated that CMC 0,25% had significant influence on separation percentage at room temperature, at 40° - 50°C, 3000 rpm centrifugally, viscosity and particle size of cod liver oil. Emulsion with emulsifiers combination of 0,25% CMC : 20% Tween 80 was the most stable emulsion because at the separation percentage examination, the viscosity and particle size had the best physical stability compared with other formula.

Abstract

Mefenamic acid is used as an analgesic and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. The problem that often occurs in the process of compressing is that mefenamic acid tends to stick on the surface of punch and die-compressing machine, so that it often experiences sticking and within a sustainable manner can cause capping process. The other problems of Mefenamic acid are hydrophobic and having low solubility, so that the dissolution becomes a problem. The combination of Avicel PH101 and PVP is expected to fix the problems, so that well-qualified Mefenamic acid tablets can be obtained. This study was aimed at obtaining the optimum formula of mixed Avicel PH101 and PVP in the manufacture of mefenamic acid tablets by wet granulation, based on the method of simplex lattice design (SLD) with two components, namely: Avicel PH101 (A) and PVP (B). Three formulas of mefenamic acid tablets (F1 (100% A), F2 (50% A: 50% B), F3 (100% B)) are made by wet granulation. The granules are tested for the fluidity, compactibility and dissolution. The result is to obtain SLD equation. The equation is used to determine the optimum formula which is the formula with the total response of the most optimal physical properties of granules. The result of the experiment shows that optimum formula was obtained from Avicel PH 101 30% - PVP 70% mixture at granules’ physical properties, and the obtained tablets of Mefenamic acid fulfills tablet physical property test.

Abstract

Sweetener known as a compound that is intentionally added and used to improve it’s taste and aroma,it also used to improve physical and chemical properties. It also used as the source of calories for the body. There are two types of sweetener : natural sweeteners and artificial sweeteners. Beverage and food producers such as bubble drink producer prefer to use artificial sweeteners rather than natural sweeteners because it is cheaper and sweeter than natural sweeteners. If we use excessive amounts of saccharin and cyclamate, they can lead to many health problems such as neurological diseases, hypertension, and brain cancer. This is an experimental research with purposive sampling method. Samples were collected from bubble drink sellers in 5 sub-districts of the Surakarta City. The experiment was conducted at the National STIKES Chemistry Laboratory. Saccharin and cyclamate were determined by rapid test kits. Qualitative test results on 25 buble drinks did not show the presence of saccharin and cyclamate sweetener.
