Abstract

Hyperlipidemia is a lipid metabolism disorder characterized by an increase in total cholesterol levels in the blood, which is a risk factor for various cardiovascular diseases. Treatment of hyperlipidemia is often combined with other drugs, increasing the potential for drug interactions. This study aims to identify the severity of antihyperlipidemia drug interactions in outpatients in private hospitals in Cikampek during the period of June to December 2023. The research uses an analytical survey design with a retrospective approach. Data were obtained from 251 patient prescriptions that met the inclusion criteria and were analyzed univariably using the Stockley Drug Interaction and drugs.com application. The results showed that 67.65% of prescriptions had potential drug interactions, while 32.35% did not. Patients aged 50–59 years were the largest group (42.6%) receiving antihyperlipidemia, with simvastatin being the most frequently prescribed drug and causing drug interactions most often (51.11%). Of the 135 cases of drug interactions identified, moderate severity accounted for 57.03%, while major severity reached 46.97%. No cases with minor severity were found. This study highlights the importance of monitoring drug interactions to prevent more serious risks in hyperlipidemia patients.

Abstract

Indramayu is a mango producing area in West Java Province. There are many varieties of mango types cultivated in Indramayu, including gedong gincu, gajah, harum manis, cengkir, golek, lali jiwa, agrimania and manalagi. In Indramayu, mangoes are sold as fruit and dodol. Mango seeds are simply thrown away or used as seeds. Mango seeds contain 81.3% starch per 100 grams. The starch in mango seeds can be made into flour as a raw material for making bioethanol. Bioethanol with a content of 70% can be used as an antiseptic to kill bacteria, viruses and fungi so that it can be used as a basic ingredient for making hand sanitizer. The method for making hand sanitizer from mango seed bioethanol goes through the Liquification Process, Saccharification Process, Fermentation Process, Distillation Process, Testing Bioethanol Content, Making Hand Sanitizer and Testing the Effectiveness of Hand Sanitizer on Staphylococcus aureus Bacteria using the disk diffusion method. The results of testing the bioethanol content after the multistage distillation process is 74%. Then bioethanol is mixed with Glycerin 99,7%, H2O2 3% and Sterile Aquadest to make hand sanitizer. The results of testing the effectiveness of hand sanitizers on Staphylococcus aureus bacteria showed that the diameter of the inhibition zone was 6 mm. Based on the Davis and Stout criteria, the effectiveness of hand sanitizer from mango seed waste bioethanol in inhibiting the growth of Staphylococcus aureus bacteria is medium.

Abstract

Temulawak (Curcuma xanthorrhiza Roxb) is a rhizome plant that has long been used in traditional medicine in Indonesia. The active compounds in temulawak function as antioxidants, which are essential in combating free radicals and preventing cell damage. This study aims to compare the antioxidant activity of ethanol extracts of temulawak obtained through maceration and ultrasonic extraction methods. The research method applied is pre-experimental, with testing conducted in triplicate to ensure result validity. Antioxidant activity was evaluated using the DPPH (2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl) method. The results show that the ethanol extract of temulawak obtained via maceration method has an IC50 value of 33.379 µg/ml. In contrast, the ultrasonic extraction method showed a lower IC50 value of 9.454 µg/ml, indicating stronger antioxidant activity. Temulawak, as an antioxidant source, has significant potential in the development of herbal products. The comparison of the two extraction methods shows that the ultrasonic method is more effective in enhancing antioxidant activity. This study emphasizes that the extraction method influences the antioxidant activity of temulawak. These results could serve as an important reference for the development of herbal-based products in the future.

Abstract

An alternative to synthetic ingredients with a focus on reducing the sticky effect upon application. Given the belief in natural ingredients being safer than synthetic chemicals, this body lotion was designed to utilise the antioxidant potential of telang flower. This study aims to develop a body lotion based on telang flower extract (Clitoria ternatea L.). This study used a quasi-experimental laboratory method with a completely randomised design (CRD) with a 3 x 2 factorial pattern, testing variations in the concentration of stearic acid (2.5%, 5.0%, 7.5%) and liquid paraffin (5.0%, 15%) on the quality of the Body lotion formulation. Organoleptic test results showed that all Body lotion formulas had a characteristic aroma and colour of bay flower, with varying colours depending on the concentration of ingredients. Homogeneity test showed that all formulas were homogeneous without coarse particles. The pH, viscosity, adhesion, and spreadability parameters of the Body lotion met the requirements of good cosmetics, with pH values between 6.68-7.47, viscosity between 2033-2459 cps, adhesion between 22-43 seconds, and spreadability between 5-6.9 cm. The acceptability test showed that all panelists liked the colour, aroma, and texture of the body lotion, and did not feel the sticky effect after application. This study concludes that variations in the concentration of stearic acid and liquid paraffin affect the quality of Body lotion, with the optimal formulation being able to reduce the sticky effect and increase the comfort of use on the skin.
