Abstract

This research stems from the low reading proficiency observed among students during the the process of teaching English learning, which impacted various sectors, including primary education. The issue was especially prominent in English, a mandatory subject that needs to be mastered from an early age. Consequently, efforts were made to support students in learning English through the development of an interactive educational tool called "Roda Literasi" (Rossi), designed to enhance students' learning motivation. This study focuses on evaluating the validity and practicality of the developed learning media. The research involved third-grade students from SD IT Imam Syafei’I and followed a Research and Development (RD) approach using the ADDIE model. Data collection included preliminary interviews, validation by subject matter and media experts, and feedback from teachers and students through questionnaires. Results indicated that "Roda Literasi" aligned with 95% of the subject matter and achieved a 98% validity score for educational use. Additionally, 88.93% of students reported enjoying the use of the tool. Based on these findings, the researcher recommends expanding the content of Roda Literasi to include other subjects.

Abstract

This article examines the application of Tri Hita Karana (THK) in the culture of the Hubula community of Balim Valley, Papua Highlands, emphasizing harmonious values that parallel those in Balinese Hindu society. The Hubula people incorporate the THK concept—traditionally rooted in Balinese Hindu beliefs—into key aspects of their lives, particularly in rituals related to agriculture (wen), livestock (wam), and leadership or conflict resolution (wim/ab-kain). They believe in a triadic harmony among the Creator (Walkarige), humanity, and nature (o’birige mende), which also includes maintaining balanced relationships among people (ab-kumi inom). This qualitative study explores these relationships, finding that harmony between the Creator, nature, and human society is upheld through this adapted THK framework. Unlike the theological and philosophical approach common in Abrahamic religions, the Hubula community’s relationship with the Creator is material and practical, emphasizing an interconnected, tangible approach to spirituality and social values.

In the 4.0 technology era, artificial intelligence (AI) technology can be used, such as the ELSA Speak application. While previous studies have highlighted the effectiveness of the technology itself, it pays less attention to students’ perceptions of the application’s use as an independent learning medium. This research aims to investigate students’ perception and acceptance of ELSA technology as an independent learning medium for improving pronunciation skills. This qualitative approach used a case study design. The researchers utilized semi-structured interviews for data collection, which focused on perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use. Students stated that ELSA is useful in improving students’ pronunciation skills through effective learning. With its user-friendly application, ELSA supports the learning process effectively. Thus, students positively perceive the usefulness and user-friendliness of the ELSA to improve their pronunciation skills.
