Abstract

This study examines the integration of Johann Friedrich Herbart's educational methods with Islamic values at Pondok Modern Darussalam Gontor, a prominent Islamic boarding school in Indonesia. Herbart's pedagogical framework, emphasizing structured teaching through five stages. preparation, presentation, association, generalization, and application. aligns with Islamic educational principles that focus on character development and comprehensive personal growth. Research Methods: The research employs a qualitative approach, utilizing literature review and case study methods. Data were collected through document analysis of Gontor's educational materials, observations of teaching practices, and interviews with educators and students to understand the implementation of Herbartian methods within an Islamic educational context. Findings: 1) Integration of Teaching Methods. 2) Balanced Curriculum. 3) Foreign Language Proficiency. 4) Comprehensive Evaluation. 5) Holistic Approach. This study highlights the successful integration of Western educational methods with Islamic values, offering a model for other educational institutions aiming to develop holistic and integrative learning systems. However, the research is limited to a single case study at Gontor; further studies could explore similar integrations in different educational settings to validate and expand upon these findings. The research provides a novel insight into how Herbart's educational concepts can be harmonized with Islamic principles, resulting in a comprehensive and effective educational system. This integration equips students with knowledge, skills, and character aligned with religious guidance and the demands of modern society.

Abstract

Motivation and attitudes in Arabic language learning are critical factors in determining student success, especially for final-year students preparing to become professional Arabic teachers. This study examines these factors using Gardner's Attitude/Motivation Test Battery (AMTB) framework in the unique context of the boarding system at STAI As-sunnah Deli Serdang, Indonesia. A sequential explanatory mixed-methods design was employed, combining a quantitative AMTB survey (n=120 students, 66.67% of the population) with in-depth qualitative interviews (n=12). Results revealed high levels of both instrumental motivation (M=4.5, SD=0.55) and integrative motivation (M=4.17, SD=0.68). Religious factors emerged as the strongest influence on instrumental motivation (M=4.7, SD=0.48). Key findings revealed the significant role of the boarding system in shaping positive learning attitudes (M=4.2, SD=0.68) through consistent Arabic language exposure and intensive peer interactions. Factor analysis identified five key influences: boarding environment (0.856), teacher quality (0.789), learning facilities (0.745), peer support (0.723), and curriculum (0.698). The implications of this research emphasize the importance of fostering immersive language environments and leveraging religious contexts in developing positive motivation and attitudes in Arabic language learning. The findings are particularly relevant for Islamic higher education institutions preparing prospective Arabic teachers, providing empirical evidence of the boarding system's effectiveness in enhancing students' Arabic competency. The results extend the application of the AMTB framework in Islamic higher education contexts and offer valuable insights for designing more effective Arabic language learning programs.

Abstract

The development of Arabic teaching methods in Indonesia is very necessary to know about how the history of the development of these methods. The purpose of this study is to find out how Arabic language teaching developed in Indonesia, how the explanation of the entry of Arabic into Indonesia, and how Arabic language teaching developed in Indonesia. Allah chose Arabic to speak with His servants, the development of Arabic is a reflection of the history, culture, and identity of Arab society and the Islamic world. Emphasis is placed on the evolution of Arabic language teaching methods in Indonesia, which includes an in-depth analysis of the changes from the verbalistic system to the electic system. This research also provides insight into the relationship between Arabic, Islam, and the identity of Arab society and the Islamic world, which has not been widely discussed in previous literature. In addition, this research uses a qualitative historiographic approach to reconstruct the development of Arabic in Indonesia, which provides a new perspective in this study. The data in the research on the development of Arabic teaching methods in Indonesia by using documentation, namely collecting data consisting of books, scientific journals, ebooks, and articles on the website. After all collected, then read and recorded to be processed as research material. The researcher found that the development of Arabic teaching methods in Indonesia is not something relatively simple, as it seems today, or like something that is very easy for us to do. This is due to the changing times that are increasingly developing, which means that teaching methods are always changing. With the changing times, Arabic teaching methods in Indonesia at this time have developed rapidly since its arrival in the 7th century until the 20th century.

Abstract

This study examines the Arabic reading ability of eighth-grade students at MTs Miftahul Khair Hartaco. This research employs a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative and qualitative descriptive analysis. The instruments used include observation, questionnaires, and interviews. The evaluation was carried out through pronunciation and sentence tests, and factors that cause problems in learning Arabic were identified.  The results indicate that students’ hijaiyyah letter pronunciation in the vocabulary test was at a moderate level (61.90%), whereas their pronunciation in conversational sentences was significantly weaker (42.25%). Overall, their Arabic pronunciation ability was categorized as deficient, with an average score of 53.56%. The study identifies internal factors such as low student interest and motivation, while external challenges include limited learning resources and a lack of varied teaching methods.  This study concludes that improving Arabic reading skills requires a holistic approach that addresses both internal and external factors. Recommendations include developing innovative teaching strategies, integrating technology in learning, and enhancing instructional materials to foster better engagement and reading proficiency.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menerapkan penerapan metode langsung ( Thar î qah Mub ã syarah ) dalam pembelajaran Bahasa Arab di Pondok Pesantren Islamic Center Bin Baz Yogyakarta yang diajarkan oleh pengajar Nathiq Asli Bahasa Arab. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah penelitian lapangan (studi lapangan) dengan pendekatan kualitatif. Sumber data primer berasal dari santri Pondok Pesantren Islamic Center Bin Baz Yogyakarta, sedangkan data sekunder diperoleh dari literatur akademik dan buku-buku yang relevan. Pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui wawancara mendalam dan terbuka dengan melibatkan 8 orang pengajar, 1 orang pengurus bahasa, dan 15 santri. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa metode langsung sangat efektif dalam meningkatkan kemampuan santri dalam berbahasa Arab. Namun ditemukan beberapa kendala, seperti kesulitan santri yang tidak memiliki dasar Bahasa Arab, keterbatasan pemahaman, ketakutan melakukan kesalahan, serta rasa malu dalam berbicara Bahasa Arab. Keunggulan metode ini terletak pada penciptaan lingkungan berbahasa Arab ( B î 'ah Lughawiyah ) yang memungkinkan santri terbiasa berkomunikasi tanpa campuran bahasa ibu. Hal baru dari penelitian ini adalah mengidentifikasi tantangan spesifik yang dihadapi oleh santri dan pengajar dalam penerapan metode langsung serta solusi yang dapat diterapkan untuk meningkatkan efektivitasnya. Dengan memahami kelebihan dan kekurangan metode ini, diharapkan penerapan Thar î qah Mub ã syarah dapat lebih maksimal dalam pembelajaran Bahasa Arab di lingkungan pesantren.

Abstract

This study aims to optimize Nahwu and Shorof learning at MTs Sabiilillah Kayuagung by implementing the Al-Miftah li Al-Ulum book and measuring its effectiveness in improving student understanding. Optimization is carried out by analyzing previous learning methods and implementing a more innovative and effectiveness-based approach. This study uses a mixed methods method with a sequential exploratory design. The first phase uses qualitative methods, including observation, interviews, and documentation, to understand the learning process before implementing the new method. Next, a quantitative analysis is conducted using a pre-test and post-test with a one-group pre-test post-test design to measure the method's effectiveness. Saturated sampling techniques are used by involving all grade VIII students as research subjects. The results of the study showed that before optimization, Nahwu and Shorof learning was still dominated by lecture methods with traditional textbooks that were less interesting and effective, so that student understanding was low. After implementing the Al-Miftah li Al-Ulum book as an optimization effort, the post-test results showed a significant increase in student understanding. The N-Gain Score test confirmed a fairly high increase, and the hypothesis test showed a significant difference between the pre-test and post-test results. Thus, the optimization of learning through the Al-Miftah li Al-Ulum book has proven effective in improving students' understanding of Nahwu and Shorof. This study recommends the application of this method more widely to improve the quality of Arabic language learning at the madrasah level.

Abstract

Krisis akhlak dalam dunia pendidikan secara khusus telah mengalami penurunan yang sangat signifikan. Terlihat jelas bahwa banyak kasus terjadi di kalangan peserta didik zaman sekarang yang sudah mengenal pacaran, narkoba, tawuran serta aneka tindakan kurang baik lainnya. Tidak jauh dari permasalahan di atas realita di lapangan sekarang ini menunjukkan bahwa rasa takzim peserta didik kepada guru dan orang tua mereka semakin berkurang dan memudar. Permasalahan tersebut tentu tidak dibiarkan begitu saja dan akan semakin mengkhawatirkan jika tanpa ada perbaikan. Penelitian ini ditujukan untuk memberikan sumbangsih dalam perbaikan akhlak peserta didik. Metode yang digunakan adalah kualitatif dengan jenis penelitian kepustakaan (library research). Adapun teknik analisis data menggunakan teknik analisis isi (content analysis). Sumber data yang menjadi rujukan utama dalam penelitian ini adalah kitab Khulāṣah Taʿẓīm Al-ʿIlmi. Berdasarkan hasil analisis yang dilakukan pada kitab ini dapat disimpulkan adanya tiga konsep pendidikan akhlak yang berkaitan dengan peserta didik yaitu: 1. Akhlak terhadap pribadi peserta didik. 2. Akhlak peserta didik terhadap ulama (guru). 3. Akhlak peserta didik tehadap ilmu. Konsep yang telah dipaparkan dari buku ini dapat dijadikan referensi dan pedoman untuk membina akhlak mereka, sehingga mampu menjadikan peserta didik yang berakhlak karimah.

Abstract

Penelitian ini mengkaji makna Sila Keempat Pancasila melalui tinjauan leksikal dan gramatikal, serta relevansinya dengan syariat Islam dalam konteks masyarakat Indonesia yang pluralistik. Pancasila dilihat sebagai kristalisasi nilai-nilai yang menyatukan berbagai suku, agama, dan budaya di Indonesia. Metode yang digunakan adalah penelitian kualitatif dengan pendekatan kajian pustaka, yang memungkinkan analisis mendalam terhadap makna Sila Keempat. Hasil dari penelitian ini adalah bahwa Sila Keempat merupakan kalimat yang memiliki struktur pasif, dimana subjeknya "kerakyatan" dipimpin oleh objeknya "hikmat kebijaksanaan". Selanjutnya, frasa "dalam permusyawaratan / perwakilan" merupakan frase preposisional yang berfungsi sebagai pelengkap kata kerja "dipimpin". Melalui analisis semantik nampak jelas pula bagimana Sila Keempat menggambarkan sistem demokrasi Indonesia yang unik, dimana: 1) Kedaulatan rakyat menjadi dasar, 2) Kepemimpinan didasarkan pada kearifan dan kebijaksanaan, 3) Pengambilan keputusan dilakukan melalui musyawarah, dan 4) Sistem demokrasi dijalankan melalui mekanisme perwakilan. Temuan selanjutnya adalah bahwa Sila Keempat Pancasila dengan syariat Islam menunjukkan adanya tautan yang kuat mencakup prinsip-prinsip sebagai berikut: 1) Kedaulatan rakyat dan kepemimpinan dalam Sila Keempat sejalan dengan ajaran Islam, 2) Prinsip kebijaksanaan dan keadilan dalam Sila Keempat juga merupakan ajaran Islam, 3) Prinsip Permusyawaratan pada Sila Keempat juga tampak jelas tautannya dengan ajaran Islam, 4) Prinsip Etika dan Akuntabilitas baik dalam Pancasila maupun dalam agama Islam merupakan keniscayaan, pemimpin dan wakil rakyat dituntut untuk bertanggung jawab atas tindakan mereka. Abstract

This study examines the use of the book Tashīl al-Masālik ilā Alfiyyah Ibn Mālik in developing the reading skills (mahārah al-qirā'ah) of senior-level students at (Pondok Pesantren Besuk). Tashīl al-Masālik is a commentary (syarh) on Alfiyyah Ibn Mālik, a highly influential classical text in the field of Arabic grammar. This qualitative case study aims to explore in-depth how the use of Tashīl al-Masālik can enhance students’ reading comprehension. The research findings reveal that Besuk Islamic Boarding School has integrated Tashīl al-Masālik into its curriculum with a structured and systematic teaching approach. The applied teaching methods include: (1) structured and scheduled learning, (2) the bandongan and question-answer methods, (3) the use of additional learning resources and media, and (4) the sorogan method. Although Tashīl al-Masālik is highly valued in the pesantren tradition for strengthening students’ understanding of Arabic grammar, its integration into the curriculum faces several challenges. One such challenge is the lack of detailed explanations for certain prohibitions, requiring students to consult additional references. Moreover, variations in students’ abilities to comprehend Arabic texts necessitate adjustments in teaching methods.

Abstract

This study aims to understand the meanings of the letter waw in Surah Al-Kahf and to explore the benefits of these meanings in comprehending the stylistic aspects of the Noble Quran. Regarding the methodology of this humble research, the researcher employed a qualitative approach. The study is classified as library research, with data collection tools consisting of documents and observations. As for data analysis, the researcher utilized a qualitative analysis method by referring to both classical and contemporary references and sources related to the Arabic language and its grammatical rules.One of the findings of this research is that the researcher identified four types of meanings associated with the letter waw in Surah Al-Kahf: circumstantial (ḥāliyyah), coordinating (‘āṭifah), resuming (isti’nāfiyyah), and parenthetical (i‘tirāḍiyyah). The opinions of esteemed grammarians show slight differences regarding the parsing of certain words in the Noble Quran. An example of this can be seen in the verse: {الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي أَنْزَلَ عَلَى عَبْدِهِ الْكِتَابَ وَلَـمْ يَجْعَلْ لَهُ عِوَجًا}, where the phrase {وَلَـمْ يَجْعَلْ لَهُ عِوَجًا}  demonstrates that the letter waw has multiple possible grammatical interpretations: some classify it as coordinating (‘āṭifah), others as parenthetical (i‘tirāḍiyyah), and others as circumstantial (ḥāliyyah).The reason for these variations lies in the nature of the Arabic language, which allows for multiple syntactic interpretations, as well as in the different perspectives from which expert grammarians analyze context and meaning. This highlights the richness of the eloquent Arabic language and the depth of grammatical thought that has been dedicated to serving the Quranic text with the highest level of precision and care.
