Abstract

Air pollution caused by open waste burning has become a major issue in many rural areas of Indonesia due to the emission of hazardous substances such as carbon monoxide, dioxins, and fine particulates, which significantly impact public health. To address this challenge, a community service program was implemented focusing on the development and application of the ASTOR technology (Anti-Smoke Incinerator). The activities took place in Karangpule Village, Sruweng District, Kebumen Regency, which has long been vulnerable to the risk of air pollution from traditional waste burning. Through a series of device manufacturing, outreach, training, and the distribution of ASTOR units and manuals to village officials and the community, ASTOR was introduced as a practical solution. The outcomes of the program indicated a tangible reduction in smoke emissions during the burning process and improved community knowledge regarding environmentally friendly waste management. The collaboration between appropriate technological innovation and community empowerment has proven to be an effective step in mitigating air pollution and fostering the creation of a healthier and more sustainable village environment.

Abstract

Hypertension and diabetes mellitus are among the most prevalent non-communicable diseases (NCDs) worldwide, strongly influenced by dietary patterns and environmental factors. The prevalence of these conditions in Saudi Arabia remains notably high. Preventive efforts are essential and can be strengthened through routine anthropometric and biochemical monitoring, alongside education on balanced and healthy diets. A substantial number of Indonesian citizens particularly migrant workers and students reside in Saudi Arabia, making early NCD prevention crucial for sustaining their long-term health and productivity. This community service program aimed to improve the knowledge and awareness of Indonesian workers and students in Saudi Arabia regarding NCD prevention. The activities included anthropometric assessments, biochemical examinations, and educational sessions on infectious diseases and associated risk factors. The program was conducted in collaboration with PCIM Saudi Arabia and study groups consisting of mothers and students in Mecca. A total of 11 sessions were held in both online and offline formats. The webinar series comprised five sessions featuring speakers from PCIM, PPMI, and the PKMKI Team, and attracted 87 participants, including UMS students, university students, and migrant workers in Saudi Arabia. Pre- and post-test results demonstrated a significant improvement in participants’ knowledge following the webinars. Participants showed high enthusiasm, despite sessions being scheduled in the evening. This program is expected to enhance awareness among students and migrant workers about the importance of monitoring their nutritional status and maintaining a healthy diet as key strategies for preventing non-communicable.

Abstract

The Gajah Tani Makmur Women Farmers Group (KWT) in Gajahan Village has 62 members with 500 m² of land used for hydroponic cultivation. Partners face a number of obstacles, namely (1) less than optimal production due to expensive nutrients, (2) limited electricity resources for hydroponic irrigation, (3) not yet using modern financial bookkeeping, and (4) no experience in utilizing digital marketing. To address these problems, community service activities were carried out in several stages, namely stage 1 socialization in the form of an introduction to solar cells, the use of liquid fertilizer; stage 2 technical training covering the use of solar cells; stage 3 managerial training in the form of financial management and digital marketing; and stage 4 practical demonstrations on the KWT land. The results of the activities showed an increase in knowledge and skills, including (1) training in financial administration and digital marketing increased the average knowledge of participants from 61.5 to 84.8 with a significant change of 23.3 points; (2) training in making organic liquid fertilizer succeeded in providing practical skills to 30 participants in processing household waste into environmentally friendly fertilizer; (3) training on the use of solar panels increased participants' knowledge from 90.5 to 96.4, a change of 5.8 points; (4) participants' responses to the training method showed that 75 percent agreed; and (5) a survey on understanding solar cell maintenance showed that 81 percent of participants agreed. Thus, this community service activity effectively increased knowledge of production, management, and the use of renewable energy technology to support hydroponic farming.

Abstract

The advancement of technology and globalization has significantly changed production methods and environmental conditions, bringing economic benefits while also creating challenges such as pollution and climate change. Therefore, MSMEs in Indonesia need to adopt more responsible and sustainable business practices by applying Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles, fraud prevention, and strengthened governance supported by diversity. This study discusses an ESG training program conducted by the community service team of Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta to help MSMEs understand ESG, prevent fraud, and build stronger governance within their organizations. The results show that although challenges still exist in implementing ESG and good governance, the training successfully improved the participants’ knowledge and capabilities, enabling MSMEs to compete more effectively in the modern business environment while contributing to environmental and social sustainability.

Abstract

This community service program aims to improve financial literacy and management skills among members of the Sidomulyo and Banyuanyar Family Welfare Movements (PKK) who face challenges in managing household finances, such as a tendency to get into debt and an inability to plan properly. Excessive debt and uncontrolled spending often lead to reliance on informal loans and financial difficulties. To address these challenges, the program offers training covering the basics of financial management, debt management, the importance of saving and investing, and long-term financial planning. Methods used in the program include interactive lectures, simulations, individual mentoring, and the use of accessible financial technology. Through mentoring and counseling that emphasized adaptive financial management such as flexible savings strategies according to income conditions, recording daily expenses, and strengthening understanding of debt management, participants demonstrated increased awareness and understanding of more planned financial management.

Abstract

This community service program was implemented based on challenges faced by the PRA (Aisyiah Tohudan Branch Leadership) in Colomadu, Karanganyar, Central Java. The primary target group needed assistance in capacity building in Islamic household management. The objectives of this community service activity were: 1. To help the primary target group understand Islamic household management, 2. To assist partners in planning, resource management, and communication between family members, 3. To assist partners in family financial management, and 4. To support partners in educating their children in accordance with current developments and Sharia guidelines. The methods used in this activity included focus group discussions, lectures, and mentoring. The community service outcomes achieved included draft articles for publication in the Abdipsikonomi journal, YouTube publications for the Development Economics Study Program, intellectual property rights (IPR) processes for posters and YouTube videos, and articles uploaded to the online media outlet Retizen Republika.
